1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. All my dolls have come to me complete, I always buy them because I like them as a whole.

    2. I prefer buying complete dolls. I'm still pretty new to all of this so I don't know enough about splicing them together to make decisions like that. D:>

    3. I definitely prefer buying complete dolls, but sometimes you can't even do that through the company (for instance, k-doll or switch which sell heads only). It's just a little disheartening having a bunch of floating heads with no bodies. I just recently got a body for my k-doll boy and I'm really pleased to see him complete now.

I guess if you're buying from a head-only company or from the marketplace you can always buy a head and a body at the same time and stick the head on the body when both have arrived. Obviously you need to research resin match before buying though.

    4. I like buying complete dolls, definitely. But sometimes I don't have the money to buy a full doll, so that's when I buy the head. I'm always really paranoid about a head being discontinued, but I can always find a body for it. I'm not picky on body style (except for Migidoll), so buying full dolls works best for me.

    5. I've only bought complete dolls but plan to buy at least one in pieces, maybe two. There's a male head I'd like to put on a female body, and I really want Dika's Chi but I hate their bodies so I'll probably buy his head and find a more muscular body for him.

    6. Well, now that I've bought my first head, I can say I definitely prefer buying complete dolls! D: Having a head lying around is almost depressing in a way--the character doesn't feel complete yet :( However, doing it this way ended up being cheaper... So I guess if I can get a better deal buying them separate I'll do that, but full dolls are really nice.

    7. I prefer buying complete dolls. I'm still not quite confident about my assembling skills. And it's always nicer to have the whole doll at once, rather than just head waiting for the perfect body.

    8. I would prefer buying the whole doll from one company.
I already have a whole doll from a company, but for my next two dolls [which would be my dream dolls] I will have to buy the bodies from one company and the head from another. I already have one of the heads I wanted, a Migidoll Jina, and now I am saving up to get it a Spiritdoll Elegance boy body, I will then buy a DollClans Kien head, and then get it a Spiritdoll Proud boy body, although I am hoping they will release a head that looks more like their recent limited doll Insane. But I just don't know if they actually will... I just hope they will, because is easier and less expensive to do it that way.

    9. I prefer to buy the full set dolls..Sometimes it is very difficult to find the body for the heads..and also need to think about the skin color's problem..

    10. I prefer the cost effective method XD If it's cheaper to buy the doll as a whole, I like to, as it saves matching skin tone and time, but if it's cheaper to make a hybrid (or the body is a better style to the character) then I don't mind buying separately. I have a few of both, and find either way works, as long as you do alot of research.

    11. Yep, that's me too! :) I'm not sure I can think creatively enough to know what head would go with which body. I'm happy with buying a BJD as shown...usually I fall for the complete "look."

    12. a complete doll for me because i'm just paranoid if the resin doesn't match (not only in colour but quality as well). but i would consider this and go partial (and research about it here on DoA) if i fall in love with a head sculpt but the company's body sculpts are known for poor posing abilities. i'm all about posing mainly so a company with an amazing posing and proportioned body is all that i look for!

which leads me to love luts a lot since their bjds are pretty much the whole package!

    13. I like complete dolls. And better is fullset dolls.

    14. All my dolls are bought complete :) Prefer it that way. It's so boring to wait for an head or body.

    15. I'd prefer buy separately, but certain companies don't sell the heads i want without bodies. so at the moment i ordered 2 complete dolls and eyes for them as it is cheaper to order everything at a time.

    16. Complete dolls only. I know me, if I'd buy them seperate I would have lots of heads floating around because I'd buy new dolls/heads before I'd buy some bodies for the ones I already have...

    17. I much prefer buying heads and bodies separately, even if the head and body is from the same company and could be bought together. I find I bond more easily with dolls bought that way. I almost always buy the head first, and customize it and choose eyes and wigs for it while I wait for the body. A whole new doll all at once is a bit overwhelming!

    18. as long as the whole thing matches and looks good i don't mind if i buy it separate or full set.

    19. I think it depends on the character. I did buy a separate head and body once, because I want a boy. Some company sell very beautiful body that I cannot resist. But still prefer full doll as it's much easier. ^^

    20. It is a pain to buy the head and body separately but I love hybrids because I usually hate the body that comes with the head.

So far, all my MSD boys are hybrids because I love the DOC sculpts but I hate the bodies. My MSD girl...same thing but I can't find another body that will match her skin color so she's staying with her default body...unfortunately. One of my Soom tinies will have a luts or fairyland body not because I don't like Soom bodies, on the contrary, I love them! but my boy needs a body soon!

My CP Chiwoo was second hand and I got his body and head per separate, both from the same company though. He's the only one I'm comfortable with the default body.

The whole process is a headache but in the end, I end up loving my hybrids!
