1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. If I want a complete doll made by one company (i.e. not a hybrid or anything) then I'd prefer to buy the full doll. It makes things a lot easier in the long run because you don't have to worry about matching the resins of an older head and newer body or vice-versa.

    2. I prefer whole dolls but I don't shy away from buying the parts separate, especially if I only like the head/body of said doll and hate the other part. :3 Right now I currently only have one doll, which was bought whole, but I'm also in the process of buying the head and body of another. ^^

    3. I'd prefer to buy a whole doll as it's just less of a hassle, but if there is a doll idea that I have in mind that a company does not offer as a whole doll, then I wouldn't hesitate to buy up pieces for it here and there. :>

Also, I really enjoy some head sculpts of companies but not the body sculpts they offer, or vice-versa - so sometimes the only solution for me IS to buy pieces from different companies or whatever!

    4. For me, it honestly just depends. I mostly wind up buying heads first and bodies later because I am majorly into hybriding for my "perfect" complete doll and I'm usually too broke to get a whole doll anyway, LOL!

    5. I must say I prefer to buy complete dolls. It's great that you can buy heads and bodies separate if you don't like the the body of the company your going to buy the head from. But the feeling of having a head you can't do anything with, and having to wait 6 months for the body to come is not something I want to go trough again ^^'

    6. I'd definitely prefer to buy complete dolls, less hassle really. Plus I'm terrified of the idea of having to resin match my dolls @_@.

Though if the situation really requires it, like the company only sells heads or the body is out of stock, I wouldn't mind buying separately.

    7. I really prefer complete dolls, especially for long run yellowing issues. That being said, 2/6 of my dolls are hybrids. ^.^;

    8. I prefer buying complete dolls. I always plan on buying bodies for my floating heads but I always end up buying a new full doll instead. I'm trying to get better though...I plan on buying a body for one of my heads soon.

    9. Like dr_jekyll1372 said I think I would rather buy the complete doll. Cause I have 3 heads and I just can ever seem to get around to getting their bodies. I have gotten two complete dolls since these 3 heads. So I think for me at least buying a full doll is best because I don't know when I'm going to get around to getting them bodies. >.>'

    10. I myself prefer a full doll.

    11. I usually prefer to buy heads and bodies separate, because I find many doll's heads to be too big for their bodies, but I would like to order the body and head at the same time, and get them home at approximately the same time ;)

    12. I have gotten the two that I have complete (one of them is an Iplehouse Tania). That is because I am a total Iplehouse nerd, so I want their bodies and heads. At least, for now.

But I would not oppose buying seperate. Just that I am so new to this hobby that it scares me a little. For now, but one day maybe. =)

    13. All the dolls I've bought I've had to order heads and bodies separately. I have a Minimee head, a special event head, and a Migidoll head that I've all had to order bodies for. That said, I would have preferred that they had come complete. Resin matching is not my favorite thing. Unless I fall in love with a special head again I've got my heart set on complete dolls.

    14. All of my dolls are complete, but I will consider getting the head and body from different companies as well. Particularly if I am in love with this head and this company just only makes head.

Other than that, I guess buying the whole doll from that one company is your safest bet to resin match

    15. it's all about what you envision for your character. that's what's great about this hobby! it's totally customizable. if you find a doll with a great body but ugly head, just find a head that suits your character!

    16. I prefer buying the full doll but if I had no other way of getting the doll I'd buy the head and body separately

    17. I like to purchase a full doll because it seems difficult to match resin colors. Allthough ive seen some nice mismatched dolls that seemed to have the same skintone, I think i dont have the patience to try that or the money to risk it lol

    18. since I am pretty new to BJD I get the complet doll, but I've been looking at the "parts" and contemplating for the day that I become braver...

    19. It is very important to do your research before buying them seperately. Even though you get a similar size head, it may very look very awkward according to the overall shape of the head. Especially the iplehouse dolls. I'm having a hard time finding a body that is suitable for iplehouse doll's head :(

    20. I generally buy only complete dolls, but I recently purchased a head secondhand because it was too adorable to resist.....
