1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. I generally prefer full dolls so I don't have to look into resin matching/compatibility/proportions; it's kind of a pain. But if the difference between head only and full doll is too big, I'll look into cheaper options for the body.

    2. I prefer whole dolls. I used to like to buy them seperate so that I could get my dream doll, but after doing so one of my dolls came out freakish and unproportional and her head was way too small for her body, so all of my dolls are purchased whole now

    3. I prefer buying whole dolls. I'd rather not have to check proportions and resin matching, but if I really disliked the body (and loved the head) I'd definitely think about making a hybrid.

    4. Depends on the doll. I generally prefer buying full dolls so I can play with them right away, but if they come with a body that's out of character for them then I'll be looking into a different one for them.

    5. I prefer to buy complete dolls so that I don't receive a head first and it yellows at a different rate to the body or vice versa. If I do buy a head and body seperate it's from the same company and at the same time so that I don't have resin matching issues etc. I did that when I bought Seraphine - I ordered the Mo 2 head on the girl body.

    6. Full dolls. some dolls actually come cheaper that way and then i don't have worries about not getting the body.

    7. If I really wanted a specific head on a specific body I guess I would get them separate, but when I look at dolls I tend to view the head and body together as a whole, so I would probably always get them together. I think it would be easier that way as well ;)

    8. Definitely full dolls. Like others have said, it eliminates (or lessens) the chance of resin mismatch. I did buy my DD's head before I had a body for her, but she's vinyl so it's all the same no matter what lol. Plus after seeing how much it sucks to just have a head lying around, I don't wanna do that again. Now if I bought a head and a body from 2 separate sellers and they both were going arrive about the same time...I might be able to do it.

    9. I prefer to buy a full doll. I worry too much about resins not matching too much...
Also, when I fall in love with a doll...I always feel like the body is part of that doll, so I tend to fall in love with it as well.
I have an Abio Angel Ling. He was my first doll. I adore his face, but have to admit his body isnt all that great. But there are still things that I love about it and have never really even considered getting him a new body. I like having dolls on the body they are meant to be on. ^^

    10. I prefer complete dolls. I am very bad at in visioning what the head would look like on another body. Also, I'd be really annoyed if the pigment and texture aren't perfectly matched. ;p

    11. I always worry about buying them separately because the resin color could be off.

    12. Buying the complete doll. Right now I'm too inexperienced in this hobby to try doing a hybrid doll, and I think I'd be too scared of messing something up to try my hand at it.

    13. I'll always prefer a full doll and may never have a hybrid in my possession. I have OCD and every time I see photos of hybrids with resins that don't match, it bugs the crap out of me. To some people it isn't a big deal at all and they may even like them like that. That's cool. My brain just can't take it. I could never unsee it and every time I looked at them I would see the color differences where the head meets the neck and I could never love them properly.

    14. Complete doll. Becos it might be hard to match them if I buy seperately.

    15. for now, i prefer complete dolls since im not really experienced enough when it comes to assembling a doll XD (yeah, im still a noob)

    16. I have mostly hybrids (minimee)
so I buy the head and body separately

    17. I prefer them all in one but I'm not against making a hybrid if I have to. it's just less hassle if the come whole.

    18. Full dolls are so much easier to manage. I'm after OR-doll Eris, but she only comes as a head... and this whole resin matching/body size appropriation/neck size fitting research is killing me :( Plus I have to deal with additional shipping charges since the body and head are coming from two separate places.

    19. Most of the time I like buying the whole doll, but in some cases like my Volks Dollfie Dream girl I head to buy the head first because that is all they had in at the time and it was before they made a 'character' doll with that head. Other times I usually just buy heads first of the marketplace because I only had the money for it at the time, and buy the body later. I've only really done it that with MSD's so it was relatively cheap in the way of shipping. So only on occasion do I buy dolls head and body separately, but when I do, its normally over a long period of time. :)

    20. I prefer buying whole dolls, but some bodies (*cough*Elfdoll*cough*) just look weird ... I'm not too fussed about resin matches, I do my own faceups and can always blush the head to match the body, but it's way less hassle if they come with their own body. My poor floating head has been waiting for a body for months now.
