1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. My first doll is a full set so I wanted the whole deal with him. but if they come out with the same size body but with better features (I'm a joint freak, the more the better) I would have it. Most of the dolls I want are full sets no longer available to I will take the wonderful faces when I can get them and get the best body for them ^^. Considering my tastes... much cheaper that way too lol.

    2. I prefer buying whole. I have two floating heads right now and it just seems so unexciting buying a body. Lol

    3. Lol yeah. I was considering buying a head and body from two different companies for my first doll, but soon noticed I was basically only investing my time looking at heads xD I definitely think that any I buy will always be a full set. Also because I think I'd feel bad having a spare head just laying packed away in a box.

    4. Full doll always, if it can be helped.

    5. Ok, so I need to revise my input in this thread. I bought a bodiless head a few days ago :sweat It was limited and only ever released as a head so...

    6. I prefer to buy whole bodies. It's just nice not have to worry about matching up the head with the body color.

    7. I've fallen in love with the Doll Chateau kid body, but I don't know for sure if I'm going to order the whole doll (Bella) or to purchase a DIM Larina or Unoa Lusis for it. I wouldn't mind both, since all three heads are beautifull. ^^

    8. I prefer to buy the whole doll, but I do have some floating heads which can be a problem with finding a body. Sometimes it can't be helped because the company only makes heads and so your stuck.

    9. I prefer to buy whole doll if I love the body, finding a suitable body is really homework for me it's hard to find a perfect resin match. I have several floating head, these always give me a headache when I want to take photo of them. (_ _) but it is unavoidable if the company only sells head... I have no other choice I have to buy the head and search for the body...

    10. I prefer to get a a full doll as then I do not need to worry about resin matching, neck size etc.... That's not saying that I wouldn't buy a head sculpt I love which is either unavailable or if the body was just not right for my character. I just think it's easier to get a whole doll.

    11. I prefer to buy a full doll so it won't be a problem to find a matching resin.

    12. I liked the Miro bodies but I wasn't really keen on their heads, at least the ones they have listed now. I think they might be out of some or no longer making some from what I've read but what's left really doesn't appeal to me. The sale, I didn't want to miss out on BJD bodies for that kind of a price. There are female heads out there that I like. The male is the hard problem for me because those bodies are very mature and I can't really see much that I can afford that looks like it belongs on that one.

    13. I prefer full bodies silmply because I am lazy and dont like the idea of taking the time to think about mixing and matching skin tones and all that. :P

    14. I tend to prefer buying a full doll. I get really nervous when it comes to attaching a head to a body so I feel much better when I don't have to worry about that.

    15. I've been tempted to do hybrids in the past, but in the end I'm too terrified about proportions and resin matches if I can't find the information readily available on DOA. Luckily, all the heads I've fallen in love with happen to have fairly decent bodies so far :)

    16. I like to take a ready doll - with the head and a body. It is the most harmonious option in my opinion.

    17. I like to buy complete dolls. But, I'd be willing to buy a head and body separate if I had to.

    18. It depends.

I like to buy full dolls, mostly because there are less to be done.
It's nice to have a complete doll immidiatly.

BUT! I don't have a lot of money, therefore I have bought a head, and saving up for a body. So if you are in need of money, then the seperate is a good option.

    19. Update:
...Seriously why do I buy most of my dolls separate? Argh 4 floating heads at the moment, and 3 complete dolls who were floating for a while... I think I just prefer the sculpts that tend towards not coming with a body... :|Buying a whole doll is so much more convenient!

    20. I think I am going to have to stick with complete dolls when I am out and buying dolls, but it also depends on how in love you are with the head or body separately. At the moment I have a floating head that is slightly yellowed it is quite a challenge finding the right body that I like with the head, not that I mind the head because he is beautiful but it gets quite troublesome on some days when I am looking around for a body when I could easily get a complete doll and have everything.
