1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. It really depends on what you are looking for. I tend to shy away from buying separately because I am unsure of how to do hybrids properly and if one piece is older than the other(meaning different stages of yellowing) It would have to be a mega good deal for me to do it personally(I am a big time bargain shopper).

    2. Depends on the pricing. If it's cheaper to buy the head and body separate or better for me because I'm breaking up the price, then I'll do that. But if it doesn't matter either way/it's cheaper/etc., then I'll buy a whole doll. Having the whole doll with one purchase is nice though, because I'm impatient. :sweat

    3. All of my new dolls were complete dolls, but both my second hand boys were heads and bodies separately. I think the second option is good if you're looking for a specific head that is no longer being made, because there's not really another option anymore. :P

    4. I don't have the patience necessary to buy bodies and heads separately...
You have to worry about right resin color match, proportions, overall style... So I always buy the complete dolls, because it is much easier and faster, imho ^^ I'm not sure if I would ever buy parts separately; only if I loved the head too much and hated the accompanying body too much. The chances of something like that ever happening seem pretty slim...

    5. In general I prefer to buy complete dolls, however if the character I'm looking to shell is already visualized I'll readily accept the challenge of buying all the parts separately. Of course this challenge is easier to accept when I plan on dyeing the doll which makes resin matches irrelevant. The main difficulty with piecing together a doll is making sure the proportions match up to your end vision.

    6. For me it depends on the quality of the body. I heard from many people that the doll I wanted came with a low quality body, so I bought his head and got him a body from a different company that matched his resin. It would have been easier to buy him as a whole doll so I wouldn't have to wait so long for his body, but it was worth the wait and definitely worth the money. Like I said, it depends on the quality of the body.

    7. I prefer the ease and simplicity of a full doll. I've done the head/body thing once and it was a headache trying to find a body with the right neck circumference for the head. I wouldn't want to do that again.

    8. i guess it depends.
if im get into a doll, with price and sculpts, i will buy her or him with body together. cuz there wont be any problem of resin color. they suits each other quiet well.
and, in case i just fond of one part of the doll, the head, or the body, i only buy the part i like. other things may also effect on the decision, like the price, character need.
anyway, i may buy a doll head from one company and body from another company. it all depends~

    9. I'm afraid of mismatched resin between companies, so I think I prefer to buy whole dolls.
Which poses a problem because I'm very picky about the body's features. So I have to find a company with a body I like and then try and find a face sculpt that I like as well.

    10. Well, if a complete set already matches what you have in mind there's really no need to split it up, right?
For my first doll though, I might have to get the head I'd like seperately because the full set with the head that I want is really really hard to find.
I can't think of a reason why a beginner shouldn't buy a head and body separately. You have to do a lot of research anyways so I see no problem there.

    11. As I am to afraid to cannot fix the head correctly on the body : I prefer entire doll

I have a modigli head on doll chateau body .... I'm not sure that this is put correctly : the head move alone ^^

    12. I haven't bought a hybrid yet however I like some girl heads on boy bodies like Dia and Asa.
If I would buy one I would definitively make sure I can buy the head and body that will fit.
I don't fear resin color but I do fear out of scale xD
But I still prefer full dolls ^^

    13. I prefer to buy the whole doll if possibile, but I'm pretty confortable with hybrids too.
In the past I received a pair of event heads and I enjoyed the freedom of choosing the bodies from other companies, but searching for the perfect match requires time (sometimes a little too much) and can be frustrating...

    14. For me, I prefer to be able to buy complete dolls because I buy my dolls for the long run and I want the head and body to age the same. That being said, I am not opposed to doing a hybrid. My fourth doll is from a small company that only makes heads that I am hybriding, but that is okay.

    15. I prefer to buy whole dolls, since I find it very irritating to have only heads rolling over. :'D Exceptions are if head is limited or old head which ordering has been cancel etc.
Thought I have now two BJD skulls waiting their bodies. :'D But that's because I want different bodies to them than where heads are from.

But yeah, I prefer to buy whole dolls.

    16. Well that's hard to say because i've done both, but if i had to choose, i'd say a complete doll, simply because i think they just look better and the scale goes with the doll.

    17. I prefer the full doll. I'm not comfortable with the idea of looking around and matching heads up to bodies (with different skin tones, different ways the head attaches etc.). I know the price can sometimes be a factor, but if I don't have the money for the full doll I won't even consider buying just the head.... unless I can get the full doll on layaway.

    18. Even if I am un the doll world for 2 years now, I had very few BJDs and I don't know how to match the heads and bodies, so I prefer to buy a complete doll. Moreover, I am obsessed with Iplehouse for the realistic model they have. I tried other companies (like Resinsoul) but I don't like them that much, so I'm going back to my favourite :) I'm waiting for a Tan JID Boris in two monthes :D

    19. i have some that i love as a whole package as they come from the factory and then some i fall for bits and pieces. hence, i have floating heads. its just sometimes that i want something different. the head dictates what would look better to me.

    20. Complete doll is of course best scenario but actually now I think I need to order my next dolls head and body separately. Still trying to find completed doll.
