Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. I enjoy buying a full doll, though I'll probably hybrid a BJD someday, it all depends on what I find out there... ^^

    2. I way prefer getting a whole doll. I don't have any hybrids and I like my resin matching. This doesn't mean I won't buy a head or body separately. Sometimes I got to jump on heads with awesome face-ups even if there isn't a body that comes with it. I'm not opposed to getting bodies if there's a really good deal for one too.

    3. I like whole dolls because I like everything to be uniform. Mixing different companies head's and bodies just isn't for me.

    4. I prefer buying whole dolls. However, I do enjoy planning out hybrids because I like variety even though it is difficult with lesser known companies. Resin mismatching doesn't bother me unless it's drastically different. It's more of proportions and whether the head fits the neck that becomes problematic. Especially since I'm not yet ready to try modifications in this hobby.

    5. I would prefer to buy whole dolls. But I have thought about buying just a head to practice face ups on.

    6. I'm currently in them processe of buying a bobobie Apollo but I really really dislike the body. I think I will purchase him with another body I haven't decided yet. But most of the other dolls I don't really have a problem with there body . Just bobobie bodies I dislike.

    7. So far I've always bought whole dolls because I've always loved both the body and the head of the models. But I don't exclude making purchases separated especially for SD boy one day... ;)

    8. I prefer to buy whole dolls :) I'm new to BJD's & maybe when I'm more confident, I may be brave enough to try a hybrid ;)

    9. In general I prefer full dolls, just because I'm picky about resin colors and proportions... but sometimes you just end up with a rolling head that came all on its own, or one that doesn't suit the body it started out with, and in those cases a hybrid is in order. I only have two like that in the crew currently, and they work well enough that having mixed parts from different companies doesn't bother me.

    10. I usually but full dolls, I find it easier and more exciting but have recently bought a DT head and am hoping that while she's away having her faceup done I'll be able to save enough money and buy her a body. Hopefully she won't go without a body for too long :)

    11. Whole dolls are definitely easier! I don't have the patience or inclination to do much research on resin-matching, especially when the data that's available is oftentimes out of date (or I have a piece that's so old little information is available).

Having said that, I have a few hybrids currently and a couple more planned because that's just how things worked out.

    12. Well, I would like to buy complete dolls. The feeling that I get when I open a box and there is complete new doll is awesome. <3 I really like that they're complete from the day one.

But, I still have more hybrids, because I'm very picky about the bodies and heads that I want. :D 5 out of my 9 dolls are hybrids, because I either haven't been happy with the body that belongs to the doll or the heads don't have a body originally.

So I'd prefer bying complete doll, but the hobby has other plans for me. u_u

    13. I like buying full dolls. Complete with all stock if i can. But sometimes those options does get a little pricey.

    14. Buying a whole doll is easier, because hybriding may be a hard task because of skintones and proportions, so, the head and body from one company is preferably for me, but sometimes it happens that the body or head doesn't meet my wishes and then hybriding might help.

    15. I actually just purchased a doll, full-body. I don't necessarily regret my choice, but I felt that I would have had a better liking to another head than the one that I purchase. Of course, there's always another time to purchase it in the future, so I'm not in a rush or any worry. Haha! Of course, from what I'm planning, I definitely prefer buying the heads and bodies separate.

    16. So far all the dolls I have, I've purchased head and body for. I tend to focus on face sculpts, so the body doesn't really matter to me, but I'm pretty new too, so I just haven't started noticing that yet. I will have a floating head sometime in the future though, so I might just hybrid that one...or not. I'm pretty lazy. It depends where my fancy takes me.

    17. I prefer full dolls, since I have this horrible feeling, that if I have a head for 6 months in a box before buying a body, it gets yellowed and will be slightly different color than the body! This might not be the case, especially if I keep it in a box and untouched, but um.. I'm paranoid? :D
Also, it feels horrible of just having a separate head with no body when it could be a whole doll :3
But then again, if you think of making a hydrid or something like that, then it makes much more sense to just buy a body/head before the other.

    18. I prefer to buy a complete doll , because to check the resin match or sizes is not for me , and haven't enough practice to do it correctly for the moment ^^'

    19. I would say I prefer complete dolls and yet almost all my dolls are hybrid =___=

It feels good to find a good match for that precious head but the hassle of finding the right one is too much for me. I have bought 3 bodies that didn't work for the heads and it was a big disappointment since sometimes it is not easy to sell a body...I lasted almost 2 years trying to sell a body!

The pros are when you finally get the right body. I love MSD DOD heads but I hate their bodies. All my MSDs have bodies from other companies, one of them was/is a perfect match and the head even looks better with that body, poses better.

I think I'm on both sides of the fence, I prefer complete dolls but if mobility or looks are not good I will definitely start hunting for that perfect body so I'm glad hybrids exists.

    20. I think I prefer buying full dolls. All my current dolls are completed dolls from the companies. I might make a hybrid in the future depending on the kid I am envisioning. There are a lot of options out there and not all companies provide them. My first doll is from VOLKS FCS. I did enjoy customizing and choosing the parts for him. He is my current favourite.
