1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. Within the group of people I know IRL with bjds buying a head before a body seems to be common.
I wouldn't be able to do that.
Sure, I'm more than happy to buy spare parts to mix and match with but each new family member must at least start whole.

    2. Complete dolls of course! Sometimes matching skin-tone perfectly is just impossible because of all the different companies having different versions of skin with the same name! >_<

    3. I like to buy them together because then the resin matches. However, I do have one floating head that I am looking for a matching body for. I just don't care for the body style o the company the head came from. It'll be a search though becuase of the "color" issue.

    4. I bought a head first. I do plan to get his body later but somehow I just can't and don't have the motivation anymore. I think next time I will just buy the whole package. That way I can enjoy it as soon as it comes.

    5. I prefer to buy complete dolls. I might have a hard time buying all the parts.

    6. I like to get the head first then decide on a body later. I find it easier to locate limited heads I’m looking for, versus the whole doll. I also like custom heads, and most of those are just sold by themselves.

    7. Still trying to head to another body, but eventually all end up on the original bodies .... :-)

    8. I prefer buying complete dolls, it's bit too much of a hassle to find resin matches when it comes to making a hybrid and I like to be able to play with a doll straight out the box.

    9. I prefer to buy the head first whenever possible these days. I have trouble selling full dolls due to the expense of shipping out of the UK - buyers just don't want to cover the costs. That's bad news if I don't like a doll once I have it in person. Heads sell fast, are cheaper to ship and are less of an investment. So I get the head first, decided if I like it, check it against the bodies I already have for a match, and then go back for the body. It does mean the process takes a bit longer but I don't mind that.

    10. I think it's cool when people have a vision of a doll and getting the head and body separately (if it makes sense:blush) but my first doll will come all assembled

    11. Ideally, head and body together. I don't get a lot of enjoyment out of a head in a box and the only one I have like that currently is because his company didn't make bodies at the time (now they do, but I'm not sure I like the body, so... same difference). I'm also concerned about resin match, especially over time as different batches and different sources of resin yellow/age differently.

    12. I really prefer buying complete dolls. I always worry about resin matching so it's easier to avoid issues that way. That being said, there are some dolls I want that seem impossible to get as complete dolls on the second hand market. I'm on the hunt for another Dollfie Dream but the ones that are complete are out of my price range (with the exception of my first that I found on a total fluke). MNF Chloe are another that when they do come up, they're pricey and/or snapped up quickly.

    13. Complete dolls. I probably wouldn't be all that fussy about resin matching, but I don't think I could deal with trying to match heads and bodies size-wise!

    14. I have always bought them complete. I am just a collector I dont know what head goes with what body and will it be a match? So Ive always been to nervous to buy a floating head then finding a body.

    15. I really prefer buying complete dolls because it is very difficult to find the body for the head and resin matching or yellowing are troublesome too .

    16. I buy complete dolls. I don't have the time or patience to shop for separates.

    17. At the moment, I've only purchased full dolls, though I do have a floating head for practice face-ups. Not sure I will ever get into hybrids so it will always likely be full dolls for me.

    18. It interesting for me to make hybrid doll. But now all my dolls have they own body.
I know a girl who have only a doll head for about 2 years (head with face up and a pair of shoes) - she visited bjd party in our city and we like to make group photo with her "doll".

    19. Complete dolls! It is so much easier. And I would become irritared if head and body resin woudn´t match.

Black_Fox, wow! I couldn´t even imagine that I would own only a head... That is quite interesting.

    20. If I could...I'll buy the full doll because it's such a pain in the a$$ to look for something that fits. However, if the company only offers heads or if I don't like the body...I'll just get the head and hope it fits on one of my other boys.
