1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. Depends... If there's a rare doll that I want and my funds are low I'll ask for the head only, or if the head only is for sale I'll buy a body later.
I also like hybrids, and making research about skin matches amaze me a lot x)

    2. The first two dolls I've bought (a D.O.D Luke v2 and Custom house Iriya Ai) were both full dolls, though I am very tempted to just buy in new heads as Iriya's body is really nicely proportioned. That being said, I'd love to get a FeePle 65 Chloe full set, and a few more full sets from D.O.D just because I'd rather have full dolls everywhere rather than a bunch of heads sharing a body ^^

I think it depends on what you're after. As some people might have already mentioned, buying the doll in component parts can actually sometimes make it easier to acquire a full doll, since you can buy the different parts as and when you can manage it financially. But if finances aren't an issue then I'd say go for a full doll, including the costume and shoes if you can ^^

    3. Complete doll.
I'm too much of a newb to try making hybrids.

    4. Full doll is easyer I guess. My first doll was a full doll. But my second doll (Doll chateau Bella) I just bought the head as im planning to make her a boy ;)
if you like both the head and body and have enough money then id go for a full doll ;)

    5. A lot of it depends on the doll and the face. On more than one occasion, I see a face and go "that's perfect for ___!"... only to see that my beautiful girl is a boy... or that great boy is a actually a girl. While I prefer buying a full doll for consistency, because I am intimidated by resin matching, I have a very successful hybird in Athena (Only Doll Yi Feng head and Fantasy Doll body--btw, Fantasy Doll bodies are awesome!). I plan on doing a second hybrid with Fantasy Doll for my boy Antal, who has a Migidoll Rhy head. Usually tho, I prefer the whole doll.

    6. I would buy dolls with head and body together (from same company), if their body were good too. Normally I buy them together but from some negative experiences about "not-so-good" body but nice head sculpt, I also buy head and body separately from different companies and match for a hybrid.

    7. I feel like I prefer to buy the whole doll. I would buy a hybrid, if I heard that the resin matched

    8. I prefer buying a whole doll cause I made bad experiences about Elfdoll: first I thought their original body is not good. then i ordered an angel of dream body but it was broken. then I put her into her box and almost forgot her. Then I tried to find another body for her and quitted while a friend of mine bought a total elfdoll. I put the head of mine on his dolls body but i am happy now it was not mine
so I would prefer to buy a whole doll to be sure head and body fit together

    9. I prefer to buy a complete doll.
I do have a hybrid, but that one was not so hard to combine. I tried to find another head for one of my older dolls, but then there's the whole yellowing aspect to keep in mind. Especially since he's (was :XD:) WS.
It seems a bit like trial and error for me, unless someone else has tried it before. I dont want to end up with parts that don't match, since I'm not really a re-selling type.

    10. I usually prefer to buy full dolls but sometimes a head catches my eye and I just have to have it. xD
I eventually want to make a hybrid Unoa/Minifee but I'm having a hard time finding the head I want.
I'm not too concerned about resin matching since I've seen so many people do that kind of hybrid already.
I think the only thing I'm concerned about is the neck joint but I can always figure that out when I get to it. ^-^

    11. I prefer to buy complete dolls. That way I don't have to worry about resin matching.

    12. Personally I find it so much easier to just get the full doll, but If the head is a limited thing or Im not a huge fan of the body I'll get the head separately.
I find trying to match the resins and everything to be kind of frustrating and time consuming. especially since I am sort of a perfectionist :/

    13. I wanted to buy the whole doll. but many heads are sold without body so...)

    14. I prefer to buy a complete doll, excluding the situations when it is impossible.

    15. I agree with @Letheral , buying a full doll is truly easier. But it's always fun to search for floating heads/bodies you really want if they're not available to purchase buy themselves. Like minifees

    16. I prefer to buy a full doll, but in the event I only want the head or the body, well, I wish more companies allowed for buying them separate. I have a few hybrid plans, and most of them means I'll have to find the head or body second hand, or buy a full doll and sell off the parts I don't need/want, and that is.. a bit of a bother. heh.

    17. I actually thought about purchasing a body and head separately because I didn't like the body of a certain company, however since this was my first doll, I thought it would be nice to have the doll presented to me full when I first opened it. So yes, I did buy the doll together.

    18. I usually prefer complete dolls when I purchase. I enjoy opening the box, seeing the birth certificate and having it right out for me to pose and all that. The only time when I decided to purchase a head and body separately was when. I got Doll-Chateau Debbie head with a Doll-Chateau kids body. In that case I think it's more understandable since I wasn't super feeling the original body that it had where it was joined thus I opted to purchase them separately.

    19. It depends. I love being able to open the box and get a complete doll, but lately I've been getting a lot of floating heads and finding the bodies later.

    20. I'd prefer complete dolls so that I wouldn't have to worry about resin matching/proportions, and as a beginner I imagine it'd be much easier on me (not to mention fulfilling) to have a complete doll from the get-go. There was a case where the default body of a doll I wanted didn't have enough joints for me, though, so if I ever ended up getting it I would have considered also getting a different body in the same size by the same company that did have enough.
