1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. I'm not a big fan of hybrid dolls so I've always purchased a complete doll where possible.

The only exceptions are cases where I want a male sculpt on a female body and vice versa. Or if it's a limited sculpt and there is only the head available for sale on the 2nd hand market. But even then, I'd make sure that the body is from the same company as the head is.

    2. I prefer to buy a full doll but some companies don't have the right heads for the bodies I want to buy or reverse

    3. I really prefer full dolls, I can't really appreciate a doll that I can't play with fully. I like picking out wigs and eyes, and dressing them up and seeing what looks good together. I've had one floating head every and it took me years to get her a body because while I had her as a head, I didn't really care about her because I couldn't do very much with her. Once She had body I started posing her and dressing her up a lot more.

    4. I always get the full doll. I do have just the head and a different body from DC Grace. I love this doll her elf head is so cute. I'm just not in love with the centaurs body. So I'm getting the elf head and the human body.

    5. I wish I had complete dolls. But I am picky, so both of my first two dolls will be hybrids. Also, I want to make sure that I like their faces before I make a huge investment. This is my first time, after all. It has had me pulling my hair out, but hopefully it will be worth it. Thank goodness I like researching because I have been doing a lot of it.

    6. #teamhybrid here!! :) i love the challenge of finding bodies and heads that match and fit together. it's so satisfying when it works out *__* both my first two dolls have been hybrids and i love them to pieces <3

    7. It depends. Of course it's awesome and convenient when you get a full doll, but sometimes you just want something different, like a certain head on a body style the head company doesn't offer. I prefer to buy the full doll, but I'm not above doing the research required to make a character concept come to life.

    8. I prefer buying head and body together but have managed to aquire a couple of heads.

    9. I prefer them together! But somehow still have floating heads.

    10. I rather buy a full doll but cost and availability might prevent that.

    11. I prefer to buy dolls as a whole, but I don't mind buying parts separately either. I find that it's easier to buy the head with the body, plus my impatient nature makes it difficult for me to have a head sitting around with no body. If it's cheaper and I really want a certain head sculpt though, I would definitely buy the head and body separate.

    12. I only buy complete dolls as I'm afraid I'll never get the body for the head later....

    13. Buying a full doll would mean less trouble trying to find matching resin, although some bodies aren't as posable as others so I would say it depends on what you're looking for!

    14. I agree i am not as experienced yet to buy separate

    15. I have bought only complete dolls so far.

    16. I would prefer the head and doll to come together, but in some cases (like with my phantom head), I had to buy a body for it. Still waiting its arrival. I just hope it fits my needs. Depending on how this ends up for me, I may or may not continue down the interesting trail that is hybrid dolls.

    17. I just bought a skull head that will take a month or more to get to me. All the skull head full dolls were sold out and cost to much anyway.

Oddly enough I will match it up with a full doll and swap the head for the skull. The full doll comes with stuff that will go great with the skull head.

    18. I like when I can get a full doll, it saves headaches in the long run, BUT! Sometimes the head I want is *only* available as a head, or the body it comes on is not the body I want (going through that right now), or there is a discontinue event where I want several sculpts and it's cheaper to just get heads,or I end up with a bonus or event head. Conversely, there are bodies that I absolutely love, and if they happen to work for one of the floating heads at home, then double-bonus!

      The very, very first doll bit I ever got was just a head, and it took years for me to get him a body. ^^;

I do like making hybrids, though. Some of my favorites in my doll family are hybrids!

    19. I prefer to get a full doll mostly for resin match, but there are some circumstances that call to buy piece by piece. There are some doll bodies that are not what I want for the character which happens a lot with all the different MSD bodies and types now. As many have said before me I'm sure sometimes you can only get the head on the site or just hunting it down second hand. I have a few heads that I got and I'm still looking for bodies that have a correct or close resin match.

    20. I like buying the body and head together, just so I don't have a bunch of floating heads/bodies laying around. I'm just too impatient to wait for two packages :XD:
