It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. well it just depends on whether or not what body goes with what head for what character.
but my first doll was less complicated and was bought all together :3

    2. Complete dolls. I've bought one in separate parts and never again.

    3. If everything I wanted in a doll always came together, I'd probably always buy full dolls, but sometimes I fall in love with a face or a body and not the other half. Or I love a sculpt that is body-less. I've also bought a doll mainly for the body, thinking I'd also like the head, but found out when the doll arrived that the nose was too thin, and all of my trying to like it and get used to it failed, so the head went and the body stayed. I'm less picky about the bodies being just right on full dolls, but as I have more money in the future, that's likely to change. I suspect I'll have a whole host of frankendolls that outweigh the matched sets.

    4. Buying the first doll will be wise to buy a full body first though, so did I. I am planning to buy another body for my Ryouta since I am not satisfied with the body structure, althouh.
A research could do wonders first. Like resin matching (If you'd rather to buy the from another manufacture). My friend forgot to do that once and ended up with two different resin colors. ^-^'

    5. I prefer to buy the doll all together because hybrids are hard to visualize (I'm always afraid that even if the measurements match up and the skin tones look compatible it'll turn out not to look right when I finally put it all together) but I'm about to buy a head that will be floating for a while because it's my last chance to get her and I can't afford the entire doll right now.

    6. It's funny I ran into this, because Iplehouse Tania is my dream doll.

Anyway, I think I'd be too scared to try mixing and matching doll heads with bodies. I'm very finicky about coloring and proportions. And I find that it mostly seems more expensive to hybrid.

    7. Buying heads and bodies together. There are some dolls that I would like to try and experiment with yeah, like putting a doll head on a minifee body as they're supposed to be awesomely posable, but I would never do it. I'm way to picky about skin tone. Doesn't matter if it's close, if they aren't the exact same I will notice it asap and it's all I'm gonna be able to focus on. And then its' gonna bother me, forever. So no use in putting myself through that. >.>

    8. I prefer to buy full dolls. I've had floating heads in the past, and I never get around to buying bodies for them.

    9. I'm new to this, but I've only ever considered complete dolls. I have thought about Hybriding a head with a different body of the same company, just because I am so picky about the resin matching.

      Not only that, but I could load up on heads, because I can, but when the time come to get them all bodies.... my wallet will hate me. I can't have something incomplete, it bothers me ;^;

Lastly, I want to be able to play and pose with my dolls, not wait for extra parts and just watch it sit on a shelf D:

    10. Complete dolls, definitely. Not just because of the resin matching, but it's just not as fun to get a floating head or body unless they arrive at the same time. With headless bodies, I feel really impatient to get the head to go with the body. With floating heads, I feel like I've got the best part of the doll already, but I can't enjoy it. Getting the body later feels almost like a chore to me, plus the bodies are usually more expensive. Also, having floating heads around is actually stressful to me, because I feel like I'm obligated to purchase a body soon, regardless of current finances.

However, if I really disliked the default body, I would buy them separately.

    11. Complete dolls due to resin matching. Also, I like them for the same reason I like company face-ups. The doll is ready to play out of the box. With buying the pieces separate, there is usually a wait involved and maybe even mods that require time.

    12. I really perfer buying complete dolls as looking for bodies for floating heads can be such a pain! (>_<) Unfortunately, it seems like recently, all the molds I like are sold as heads only...

    13. Since I haven't bought a doll yet, I'm leaning towards buy my first as a full doll. I'd be worried of the resin not matching, since I'm already really picky, and I want the box opening experience for my first one. Maybe when I learn more and get more used to the hobby I'll do splits or start making hybrids, but not yet.

Plus, buying the full doll in one shot sounds much easier in the long run to me :)

    14. I would think that buying the body with the head would be much better than having to buy them separately. Just thinking about getting the resin to match is already giving me a headache…but I've got a bodyless head coming in right now as part of an event gift…I believe it will remain bodyless forever due to my laziness

    15. Complete dolls. Buying parts separatly is just too much of a hassel for me, even if the results I've seen are very nice.. It's just not worth it. And the extra wait! I'd go crazy.

    16. I prefer complete, I feel like the body/head combo just matches more that way.

    17. I Tend to lean towards the HTF limiteds, so I usually get them as heads at first, then find bodies for them.
The only instance where I brought whole dolls where minis I don't get them full set, I did have one limited fullset doll, but I sold him off about a year after receiving him.

    18. You're not the only one who is bothered by a doll being imcomplete.....I have sold dolls in the past because I cannot complete them like I'd like to.

    19. For me, complete dolls all the way. I'm not so picky about the body not being EXACTLY right as I am with the face sculpt, so... there's really no reason for me to run around mixing heads and bodies from different companies. Since I order my dolls blank to do my own faceups, there's enough work to do to start with before I can really play and enjoy--no need adding to that waiting time!

However, there's been one time so far I bought a head/body separate: my DZ Annie. I bought her head, wig, eyes, clothes in one throw in hopes of getting her body for xmas--the plan with her body didn't really pan out, but! luckily, I found a matching DZ body on the MP here (and I was lucky! It came with the original box and everything!)

Besides that, I've already got the DC conjoined twins on layaway--but, just the body. For them, I'm hoping to hybrid with DZ heads on the DC body (since DC/DZ are sister companies, the resins will match--it's just a matter of seeing the proportions by putting my other girls' heads on the body and seeing. xD) But, again, that's only because DC's face sculpts don't quite do it for me--for one of the girls, I need a face with a nice smile!

Overall, I've bought five dolls complete, versus two incomplete. I think that says plenty. <:

    20. I've had both floating heads and full dolls. If you're like me and make your own clothing, then having the head there allows you to stare getting a wardrobe made before you need to have a clothed doll around. I also do a lot of hybriding, so it's rather necessary. it does take a lot of patience to have a head without a body too.
