Which do you prefer: Buying heads and bodies separate or complete dolls?

Aug 17, 2010

    1. I prefer to but a complete doll if possible. I now have a floating head with a mismatch body! I couldn't resist the lovely head and great price. The skin color was bit off due the different year production batch, which I didn't mind, once you put clothes on it's hardly notice able. But the body was bigger than I thought, made my lovely head looks like a shrinking head on that body.

    2. I probably prefer completed dolls. Its easier that way for me. I think it would be difficult for me to just buy a head and have to wait to get a body.

    3. I prefer to buy it together, because I hate finding bodies that both look right and matches properly, but I don't hate it enough to avoid floating heads.
But I have a floating SOOM Heliot head and I bought her a SOOM body, just because it fitted the character nicely and I was sure it would be an okay match.

    4. I prefer to purchase full dolls. Because it is very exhausting to find bodies for heads and sometimes they looks together not so harmoniously.

    5. I prefer to buy them as a full doll if I can help it. Saves the trouble of having to find a body/head for it, plus I don't have to worry as much about the resin matching.

    6. I too prefer to purchase full dolls. But I also like going with whatever works for the character and sometimes that means buying things separate.

    7. Complete. It just seems more cost effective that way for me, that way I avoid the possibility of having to pay extra on the shipping if between different companies. Also means they get there at the same time.

If it was a head and body from the same company but not offered as a complete doll, I would (and have) consider it if it meant getting what I want.

    8. I prefer buying heads and bodies separately. I like playing around with bodies to see which one matches which head and since I normally like bigger dollies I prefer being able to buy just heads to test which body they fit -as in getting a 60cm head and finding out which 70cm body it fits.

    9. I like to buy a whole doll, but I would also buy heads only if I see a nice one.
For example, my Granado V-01 and V-02, I fall in love with them in one sight. Of course, there is also a price reason for me.
A good looking head is the main spirit, so I would prefer choosing dolls head.:chocoheart

However, sometimes when I see my floating heads, I just think when will I buy a body for them...

    10. I have to admit that I don't understand the idea of hybrids, when it comes to dolls. It's just easier to get the doll you like, meaning both head and body together. The resin matches, which is always a good thing, and the head is more in proportion to the body. One thing that bothers me is the fact some body's have necks that are too large or small for the head, yet people pair them anyway. Some will customize the neck to fit the head which does help in aesthetics, and appearance.

Personally, I would never buy a hybrid doll. I'm stupid enough to want my dolls to be pristine. (I bought an amazing doll from a lady last month that is one of the old school LaTi Red boys. He was amazing and beautifully kept. It's so hard to find the old school doll that have not been modified, or separated from their body.)

    11. I like the idea of buying whole dolls and most of my collection are, but I have several hybrids too. At least two of my hybrids were bought as whole dolls, but when they arrived, I thought the heads were way too small for the body, so I found other bodies that looked better. I've bought heads that came with bodies with huge boobs that did not fit the character I planned, so I found suitable bodies for those. I have other heads that are only sold alone, without bodies. I just want my dolls to be perfect for me.

    12. I prefer buying complete dolls, too.
It's just because I can be sure everythings matching then ^_^

    13. I always prefer complete dolls that way the resin is a complete match even if it starts to yellow. I bought another head for my Luts SD and the resin difference was huge although neither piece had yellowed greatly.

    14. I always prefer to buy my dolls in pieces as I find it works out cheaper :)

    15. I prefer buying fullset dolls wherever possible, which it usually is since I stick to Volks dolls and most of them come fullset with their own clothes. I'd buy floating heads or wigs if it was a sculpt I really liked and couldn't get any other way, though. It is going to mainly depend on the deal.

It's definitely easier for a first timer to get a complete doll from one company, although it's not impossible to mix and match with the help of others for size matching.

    16. I did better to buy a full doll than in pieces.:)
But sometimes I want to buy it separately for my projects. And then they put together so I have a job. xD
It's fun, a hunt for the various pieces to make.
But I prefer something more to complete a Doll.

    17. Unfortunately, I prefer full dolls because that makes life easier and I say unfortunately because I always ended up buying heads:sweat and I get utterly frustrated when I have to search for an almost perfect match...and it's even worse when the bodies get here they don't match at all...so frustrating! but I know it's also a great opportunity to own that limited doll or special mold when it's not in stock or we don't have money to buy the full doll etc. That reminds me that I need to start searching a body for that floating head I have around here >___<

    18. Definitely complete dolls. The only time I buy heads is when I can't get a body for them like with my Migidoll Ryu. Resin matching is just too much work for me haha. I want a doll I can start playing around with straight away. I guess the only time I would consider getting a floating head again would be if I loved the head but hated the body or if I couldn't afford the body and head at the time.

    19. It has to be a full doll for me. I don't like the idea that my girls could start out as a bodiless head - I like to think of them as perfect little dolls, so I can't imagine ever buying a head and body separately. I recently had a doll listed on eBay and I had someone contact me to ask me if I would consider selling the body separately - I was so horrified by the idea that I actually had to cancel the listing!!

    20. Complete, I'm still too unexperienced to put things together just yet.
