Which do your prefer? Big hands or small hands?

Jul 22, 2012

    1. Dude, it was the same with me, my third doll is a 5star Tumnus and when I unwrapped his hands I cringed. My second doll, (an msd AoD "Jiasha/Shajia") as I mentioned has hands nearly the size of his. I am actually considering selling him both because of his rather large head and tiny hands. I should note that my first is an HZ "Wang-Ye" and anyone who has seen an HZ will tell you that they've more proportionate heads, (they're smaller) and have fairly big hands that are in proportion to the face. It's sad that my Tumnus might end up finding another home because I too waited around five months. :(

    2. I tend to proffer hands that are a little on the smaller side. I know sometimes with companies like SOOM the hands are really rather big on there SD girls which in my opinion can look out of place

    3. I've actually been quite frustrated because my doll's hands are so big! I always seem to have trouble when I sew him clothes because I forget to factor in that his hands are actually thicker then his arms, so his hands can't get through the sleeves!

    4. I don't mind the size just as long as it is in proportion to the rest of the body. Also I do have to say that HANDS are the deciding factor whether or not I get a doll. I have to love the hands, the position of the fingers is key. Just like I love my Jewel (Fantasy Doll Nina) but I disslike her hands. I would change them if I could find the resin to match them... I don't like it when they have little sausage fingers, I prefer a more delicate sculpted hand. Also if they're not just flat palmed, I like movement in the fingers..
If you know what I mean?...

    5. I'm a bit obsessed with hands and a bit obsessed over proportions. I would love all my
dolls to have "beautiful" proportionate hands. I think most of them have hands that suit
their size & aesthetics nicely, the only ones that I'm not too thrilled about are my girl's
since she is an old DDI, she's stuck with Volks' "cute" fatty anime-ish hands. I don't like
masculine, fat-fingers or hands that look chunky. I prefer (proportionate) thin elegant-looking
hands that's what I would love for all my dolls. (:

    6. Human hands vary too, so I'm OK with all versions. In faces I like realistic pretty, realistic character [not the current idea of beauty] and all types of unrealistic for many reasons. As I think about it, same goes for hands. Though I believe too small is a little more distracting to me than too big. Hands, and how they are positioned can convey so much, so they are important, and I can understand being "crazy about hands" as the question poster describes her/him? self.

I have a few new 1/6 size dolls from one company and I have thought about replacing the hands because they are so small. I'm giving it a little time though, to see if this grows on me as part of their character. As for too big, I find that clothes tend to take my attention away from that feature and just give the hands a chance to speak more clearly in their visual impact.

    7. I prefer hands that are proportional to the body and face. A hand is usually (but not always) about as long as a person's face, so I really like bodies that have larger/average hands. I've noticed however that most dolls have tiny hands! I don't really mind it all that much if the hands look nice. They can look pretty cute when they're small :)

    8. I have personally seen the "man hands" and I can honestly say... they weird me out. I don't even know why, they just seem un-proportionate to the doll and when I see them I go Eeeesh... ::shutter::

    9. I don't really care for hands as long as they are matching the body and aren't a pain to work with when putting on clothes.

    10. I have small hands myself (I'm 42 and can still wear kid-sized gloves... <_<) and that may bias my perception of what's "normal" somewhat, but for me it's all about proportion.

I love my Delfs' hands, for instance, and my Volks guys' (which I don't consider particularly large-) BECAUSE they're well-proportioned for the wrists and forearms they're attached to. They look "right" to me on those dolls. Likewise, my giant lug of an EID's equally large hands suit him. I can't imagine Palrah with either larger or smaller ones. My former Hound was the same way... 'Gorgeous hands that didn't look over-sized on the doll who wore them, in spite of them being absolutely huge.

My male Super Gems on the other hand? (No pun intended-) They look so out of proportion to me, it's silly. I really hate those over-sized flippers they come with, and many of the fantasy variations (Arkose and Sphaler's talons, for instance, or Chrom's claws-) are even worse. o_0 Skinny little forearms just look awkward to me when they end in hands that large... a problem I've solved on several of my guys by using the thinner, long-fingered Heliot/Chalco-style god-hands. Those are just a better match proportion-wise to my eye. Alas, they won't help my poor Arkose, since they were never made in purple. :(
