1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which Is More Important To You?

Mar 15, 2011

    1. I like to buy the doll and spend the months waiting looking for the wigs and eyes. Sometimes the wigs and eyes get home before the doll and other times the opposite (like my current doll). I think doing the shopping during wait times makes it a little easier for me, gives me something to do. Generally, though, I don't like getting a doll without wigs and eyes, sometimes it just happens due to laziness on my part or slow shipping.

    2. If the doll is limited, then it's more important to me to get it home. Otherwise, I'm quite content to accumulate their accessories and such while they're not even on the "to buy" list for the year. Or next few years. O.o Especially if they're accessories are limited (curse you Soom MD parts!).

    3. I'm still new, but I think getting the doll home first would be important. At the same time though buying clothes while waiting is something I would do. Though I don't think I would have a set routine. Just do what I think is right for that doll. I just ordered my first one so I have not yet set any routines. :)

    4. I would suggest for any first time buyer to wait it out and at least get their first with a simple outfit, a pair of shoes, a wig and simple eyes. Something in a doll is better than nothing and generally helps get some ideas going as to what else you might want to buy for your doll in the future.

      I think some newer people assume that the doll itself is the mysterious wonder about abjd but i think its been said before that customizing is what generally brings joy into this hobby.
      I still think that I was smart in buying simple items for my first doll, be cause it wasnt until months later that I was able to buy more things for him.
      So.. I'd say probably better than waiting it out with a naked doll wondering why these dolls are claimed to be so great. ^^;

      I know from having floating heads that its easy to fall out of love with something that's blank and void.

    5. I like to have my doll here and then get the rest after. :)

    6. Unless it's an epic emergency I like to order clothes and hair and eyes and all that for my doll, at least one set. That way they can join in as a complete doll right away even if the style changes a little or I change my mind about what I want them to look like. If it's a super duper limited doll and all that and I haven't got the time to save for clothes, I'd buy the doll right away and then I'd look at their measurements and hunt down some clothes and hope they arrive on time. So... a lot of the time, I buy full sets for this reason. They come with everything! Then later on I can develop their style or personality or whatever I like.

    7. I love them nude, bald and blind, tabula rasa for them to show me what they want to become. My Luisis and Kun came dressed and faced up and I stripped them off right after photographing them. I like to have the dolls in hand before choosing things for them, no matter how good a photo or image of them is, seeing them as a dimensional sculpture is different. Plus it is fun to watch a doll evolve and become more personal. If you are the type to just see what the doll needs, then maybe at least eyes, wig, undies, making double sure of measurements first!

    8. I prefer to buy items before (or with) the doll arrives, but it's not always the best method for me. It's what I've always done so far.

    9. Don't really have a preference. I have a pretty decent stash of eyes/wigs/clothes/shoes so if I buy just the doll I can usually work with what I already have. But sometimes it is nice to prepare for a doll's arrival by having special items just for him or her.

    10. Just getting my doll home is the most important part for me, but even so, I have a doll and eyes ordered for my lovely Lucienne that is on the way. I am sewing some clothes for her, so that she will have something to wear when she gets here. I am also preparing to make her a bed so she has somewhere comfy to sleep at her new home.

    11. I would prefer to have a wig and eyes handy for when my doll first gets home, but with my current doll I recently ordered, that wont be possible. I have an extra wig that will fit him, but it doesn't suit his character, so it will just be on his head to keep him from being bald until I can get him his correct wig (same with the eyes).

      As for clothes, I have some extra clothes laying around that might fit him, but I sew all my clothes myself so I can't really say until he gets here. I know his measurements (they say them on the site), but there's always a chance i'll make something and it wont fit, so I'd rather wait until he gets here.

    12. Well, I'm currently in a 4 month layaway for a doll that includes some bells and whistles (faceup, outfit, etc.), so I guess it's important to have the extras rather than go for a shorter layaway and not have them.

      I don't mind waiting for what I want, though, so it's not a problem. I already have dolls at home that I can do things with. And I don't mind having the extra time to help recover my empty bank account and look around for eyes and wigs that will go, and to sort out the character and name and all that.

      Of course the doll itself is the MAIN thing. All the stuff is FOR the doll, after all, and do no good without the doll. But I don't feel the need to rush the doll home without the rest of it. It all adds to what I want for the doll, after all. I like the idea of getting more of what I want, even if I have to wait.

    13. Getting the doll home is more important to me. I generally try to buy an outfit, shoes, and hair from the doll's company when I order it so everything will be ready to go. I've been dragging my feet with my newest wait but he's a fullset; I may wait until they release new clothing and wigs. He'll just have to be all fantasy until then, lol.

    14. Right so with emily I had gotten a wig, eyes, and clothing, and after she got here I just kept buying more and more stuff. Now that Yoko who is a yo-sd is coming I haven't gotten anything for her, I bought an outfit but still don't have a wig. I hope to buy more stuff before she gets here, we'll see how that goes.

    15. Basically, my main goal is to bring home the dolls, if this case, a non full set one.
      But, while waiting for the dolls, I will save for at least 1 outfit & 1 wig.
      I won't let them naked & bald for long time when they're finally at home... XD;;;

    16. Bringing the doll home! My dolls have been shoeless, wigless, and naked at various times. And to this day they don't have a lot of clothes, not compared to some dolls. They all have at least one full outfit and mix and match seperates.

    17. in my point of view getting the doll is what matters to me and i can sew while waiting for it or anytime i want. its just when i have it in my own hands is what matters to me. it can inspire me in a whole new way different from my pre-made one so i cant buy something i know i may change it in the future.

    18. I must AT LEAST have eye, wigs (even if it's not the right ones) and something to hide their.... manhood. (or femalehood, depends :3) and something to do their faceups!
      but yeah, I'd say in my case I prefer to have the doll + clothes or else I get unpatient and end up selling the doll really quickly :sweat

    19. I've just received my first doll two days ago and I was super excited! I ordered her from dollfairyland and I would have liked to get the full package with the wig and outfit but they were sold out and I didn't know how long it would be before they would get more in. I ordered the basic package which didn't come with a wig or outfit and I'm not gonna lie ... I was a little tiny bit disappointed. I guess it was because I had this image in my head of her in that outfit and wearing that wig that it was all I would think about when I thought of her coming home. But then when I finally got her, it was that momentary shock of "Oh hey ... it's not the doll in the picture". I would have preferred her in clothes and hair but it's cool ... I get to personalize her now :3

    20. This is a toughy!

      On one hand, of course, I'm thrilled my doll is actually in my possession...

      But on the other, I really think it's incomplete if they're going to be naked for any stretch of time. Or bald because there's no other choice - as in they have no wig, not "I took her wig off". Or eyeless - because sometimes, in the right light, eyeless dolls are kinda creepy.

      I mean, if there's no way around it, then I have to settle for a wigless, eyeless, and/or nude doll. Not that I'll like it - I won't - but unless I drive to a local fabric store, haul out my sewing machine, and start sewing something that (with my luck) might not fit, I can't do anything about it. When I bought Emma, I had to get her something to wear, even though I really wasn't in the mood to save any more after the initial sum - fyi: always get your doll pants. Always.

      Part of that was because I had to 'prove' something to others about this doll, and the other was that I didn't want my doll lounging in underwear because all my sewing projects turned out to be too big or too small or just plain bad.

      Shoes... not so important (unless she's going outside, in which case, it would be super important). I don't know what it is, but I have this weird aversion to socks and shoes when it comes to myself. She has no socks (doesn't need them), and I tend to keep her barefoot now, but she does have three pairs of shoes: sandals, boots, and sneakers.

      Now, with the BBB Apollo still in consideration (imo) there's a lot to be done beforehand. I wish BBB had more in terms of eyes, wigs, and outfits because I wouldn't be scrambling to try to find accurate sizes. In that respect, I'd understand why he'd be naked for a little while.
