Which Is More Important To You?

Mar 15, 2011

    1. Having my doll come home is the most important, but I can be quite impatient and like to have some things as I dont want them being nakey and getting a cold! When I got Finn for example he is the only 1/3 ive had and I didnt get him an outfit for a while and it just felt wrong and now he only has a trouser, tie and shirt set and I bought him some snake skin trousers but it just feels wrong not having things for him. Yup im sad hee hee. :)

    2. I do not like to get a full doll. Blank, bald, and naked is the way for me. I make clothes and wigs, so that's crossed off. I had this habit of collecting eyes so don't need that either. The only things I do buy are shoes... but only after making a couple of outfits to be able to purchase things that match. I'm very anal about matching-ness.

    3. I don't know for sure yet, but I think the most important thing is the eyes. I can deal with a bald naked doll, because I crochet, knit, and sew a bit, so I can easily rustle something up for her to wear. But I'll admit they look a tad creepy with no eyes, and so I would need to have the eyes in order to bond!

    4. I ordered a wig the same time I ordered my doll (from a different company, which I'll never do again cuz just ordering the wig and having to pay $20 shipping on it was a pain). I got the wig first and then the doll came. I wanted to see what random eyes he would come with to see if I'd have to order him eyes at all (I had a specific character in mind). Once he came I ordered eyes and some clothes to use til I got better at sewing my own and then he was done.

In contrast, I just ordered my second doll and I ordered him plain. No face-up, not set clothes or wig. I'm going to make him a wig when he gets here and do his face-up myself and make him clothes. I just can't wait to get him home.

    5. I'm going to order my first doll without wig, eyes and make-up. I want to decide on everything and build my doll's personality in that way. As a person who loves creating I think it's pretty natural choice for me.

    6. I just recently got my first doll, and I opted for a fullset. He's a Ringdoll Ran. I liked the idea of him coming with clothes, a wig, a face-up, and eyes because it taught me the ropes of doll ownership off the bat. I figured that would be the best way to find out if bjds were right for me. I'm currently considering buying just a head or a body, so I guess I need to buy more dolls and see what patterns develop. ;)

    7. I prefer fullset dolls, because then I have pretty clothes for him/her to put on. I wouldn't like it to have my doll naked for a month until his/her new clothes arrive.

But I think this will change, because I want to saw clothes for my doll. :)

    8. I don't like getting full set dolls because I think that customizing your doll so that it looks different from everyone else's is the best part. Personally I wouldn't want to look at my doll and know it looks exactly like anyone else's that got the full set. But that's just me. Everyone has their own preferences.

    9. I agree with what some others in this thread have already posted, the doll is the most important thing. Although I like full sets best, and then will augment them with wigs, eyes, clothes, shoes, and props. Also I'd rather they came with company face-ups, that I can enhance if I want to. So even if I have to wait longer for what is the perfect doll to me, I'm willing to do it. I don't normally buy anything in advance of getting the doll I'm after. Although in the case of my latest "grail" doll, Volks SD16 Ruby from Another Yourself 2 who hasn't been released (yet!), I have purchased a couple of complete outfits and a few clothing separates in anticipation of Volks making her available one day soon! ;)

      Juli DC :D

    10. I definitely prefer to get my doll with wig(s) and clothes. I want to buy some kind of "basic" set for my doll so that he/she doesn't need to walk around naked or bald. That way, I can get down to business and do photoshoots of him/her quickly, and I also don't have to feel bad for spending money on this or that and suddenly remembering "Aw, damn it, I was supposed to buy that one doll outfit for those cash, now I have to wait another month before he/she is 'complete'!". However, I don't like fullsets that much, because frankly, they feel a little... unimaginative. I'd rather do my own customization on the clothing department and buy this top or those jeans to make a fabulous combo that perhaps is not particularly flashy, expensive or unique - but it fits the personality of my doll's character better. Or something.

    11. For me, I would like them to be home first ^ ^"
I'd probably order their wigs and eyes together (if the budget allows such), but clothes would definitely come afterwards.

I want them to tell me what sort of clothes they would like after I've met them. Then we could sit next to each other to pick and shop for clothes they want online :3 Of course, I'd probably make a plain t-shirt and pants in preparation before they arrive so they won't be sitting around naked while we shop and wait o~o

Me too, I don't like getting the fullsets either.
As I mentioned, I would like them to decide what kind of style or clothes they want :3

    12. I have noticed, that unless you buy a fullset it takes time to get all the necessities for your dollies. I still don´t have a wig for my SD, which was my first doll. I just can´t seem to find the perfect one. So as much as I enjoy the box opening for a nude doll, the joy of owning her comes when you get everything ready for the doll. This is whyt I trie to do, to get everything ready. But having the perfect items is so difficult :D

    13. I would rather have a fullset. I would like to be able to display my doll when I get her, and if she's naked it would make my friends uncomfortable. Especially my non-art friends (who understand the dollness).

    14. I've tried both routes. My first was a full set and it definitely made it easier on me to find things to do with him (pose, take pictures of and just marvel at his beauty). But because of that...I'm still having trouble with giving him a personality.

My second was blank, only because she was limited. I wasn't too happy with her because of that. It was just not appealing to me. She had a mature sculpt with sculpted ribs. She was an anorexic model. I definitely didn't want to stare at an anorexic doll. After I gave her a face up, a wig and eyes, it did get a bit better since there was something to catch my eye with and it was easier to see her personality. She went from famished, poverty stricken elf girl to an innocent and somewhat dazed and confused elf girl. :sweat

      tl;dr
I've basically decided that from now on, I'm either going to get clothes for them before I purchase the body or at the same time only. I'm also only going to get clothes that would define who they are rather than 'omg that's so cute/sexy/adjective!' Wigs and eyes can wait since I have extras lying around.

    15. I like to get my dolls at once--body/head, faceup, wig, eyes, and clothing. I want the doll to feel complete; it plays an important role in my personal satisfaction. I don't enjoy dressmaking, wig-making, eye-making, modifications, or painting faceups, so I don't want to do those things myself. I prefer to buy my dolls fullset or "backwards." When I buy dolls fullset I don't necessarily keep them exactly as they were originally designed by the company, but I like having the option. My most recent doll was purchased "backwards"--I bought some clothes for her, then shoes, later a wig, then eyes...and when I had everything, the doll herself (with faceup). I really enjoyed being able to dress her in a proper outfit and adjust her eyes and wig upon her arrival. I realized later that the eyes I chose were not exactly what I wanted, but that wasn't related to when they were purchased--I would have bought those same eyes for her if they were purchased after she arrived, anyway.

I'm just not interested in having a totally blank doll without also having options. I don't buy my dolls with a specific image or character in mind, so there's plenty of room for interpretation. Just looking at the doll and looking at images on other webshops isn't enough for me to know if that item is the right one. I have to try on a wig, eyes, or clothing to see if I like it. I don't mind having a variety, because I'm not looking for anything particular; the objective isn't to "finish" my doll into something I won't change, but instead to have materials to suit my whims. It really depends on what you personally have fun with--most of the other people posting in this thread feel precisely opposite to the way that I do, after all~

    16. In my case the most important to me is getting the base to start with, but for me that base is the BJD with faceup and most of the times with his/her own eyes and wig. If not, those accessories are already home or on their way to arrive when I order the BJD. About clothes, shoes and similar stuff, I get ready at least basic things since the beginning in the hobby so they have something to put on by the time they are here. That has always worked for me.

    17. I definitely would need at least the wig, eyes, and a pair of pants first. Bald dolls just feel wrong, eyeless ones make me feel guilty, and my house is a child friendly zone lol XD

    18. I order the doll and work on the wig and eyes while I am waiting. Sometimes if I know I am saving for a certain doll I will start hunting for the perfect wig and eyes while I am saving so I will have them. I have the hardest time finding the perfect wigs. Most of my boys have been through multiple wigs. Now that I have so many dolls there are usually clothes he can borrow when he arrives. I have dolls in most sizes. I have certain sizes I prefer and all of the dolls I have on my wish list are in those sizes anyway. These days I do the face-up myself. I only have two dolls with company face ups. I used to have a local artist do face ups for me and so I would just meet with her when my doll arrived, now I can do it myself when I have time as soon as my doll arrives (assuming the weather is decent).

    19. The doll is most important for me, now. At the time when I started to collect, I liked it if I got everything together with the doll (not important if it was a full set, but I just wanted to be sure that all other things like wigs, eyes and clothes are ready when the doll arrives). These days now I don't care anymore if the items are ready or incoming with the doll, I'm just happy for the doll to arrive - every other thing I can buy later. But this is just because most of the time I have no money left to get all together with the doll, especially when I have too many layaways at the same time... :sweat

    20. Definitely the doll for me. Even if it's naked and bald, it's still the sculpt I fell in love with. Eyes I'd rather have, but most dolls come with random eyes anyway. I'm an impatient person, so I don't want to wait for my doll any more than needed. Then I'll make some basic clothes while waiting. I'd also try to buy a wig while waiting, but it doesn't bother me if there's a bald doll sitting on my table; it's still my doll.
The idea of buying a fullset or a doll with company makeup honestly creeps me out. I don't want them complete, goddammit! I'm not comfortable with the idea of using something that's meant to be so, I want to combine and invent new stuff. I want to give them the face that belongs to my character. I'd never be able to bond with a doll that came in the box face ready, staring at me with their personality that didn't belong to my them. ;;XD I can buy clothes from doll companies, but not fullsets, because I need to be able to at least combine them in the way that the character would.
