1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which Is More Important To You?

Mar 15, 2011

    1. I want to get a blank doll first, so I can stretch out the fun of creating them, but of course I need everything planned out and found beforehand.

    2. I prefer to buy the doll first then worry about getting wigs, etc. later. If I have a pair of eyes in storage that works for them, that's one less item I need to acquire. :XD:

    3. I mostly buy my dolls blank, naked and brand new. :kitty2 I love to create the character from scratch and choose the style myself for my doll (that's why no fullsets). I also love to do the faceups of my own dolls so blank ftw ♥

    4. I don't like full-sets :/ I like the customizable part of BJDs and that includes wigs and clothes ^^

    5. I'd love to get my doll and all the accessories at the same time. But if I don't feel inclined to spend so much money all at once, I sew clothes and decide what wig I want while I wait for my doll to arrive.

    6. Doll first. Everything else will come eventually. Besides sometimes the stuff you bought for the doll before you got it does not fit the character at all.

    7. I've got a good amount of MSD clothing around, and have managed enough Yo-SD stuff to keep them from being naked on arrival, too. I've got spare wigs around, too, so what's most important to me is the doll itself. I have very specific concepts in mind for my dolls, so fullsets don't work for me, and at this point in the hobby, I'm not willing to "settle" for a "close enough" wig in an order just to bring it home. (I have enough "close enough" wigs on hand already from doing that in the past!) I'd rather get the doll and get temporary eyes, wig, and clothes on, and handle the rest later, since I generally do larger orders for eyes and wigs, and am working on patterns to make clothes myself.

I did order a wig and eyes with my first doll, and around the same time I ordered the next two, since obviously at that time I didn't have the resources on-hand that I do now, but over time, doing that has grown far less important to me.

    8. As long as there are eyes, everything is ok. Dollie can come home nekkid and bald. But no empty eye sockets. That will keep me up at night.

    9. I have bought many a naked doll before, and sometimes without any faceups. I believe there is something magical about customizing dolls in a very serendipitous way.

Sometimes as owners we have a vision of what we want our dollies to look like, at other times our doll's aesthetics are pretty much by accident.

Either way the process is as fun as it might be frustrating.

    10. I don't really like full sets as I like to shell my ocs, that being said, I don't mind my doll coming to me bald and naked, as long as it gets to me safe and sound. Granted, I normally try to get a wig first thing, I can always make them something to wear out of a scarf until I can get them clothes.

    11. More often than not I buy the doll, then worry about getting them stuff. I have a reasonable amount of stuff already, including wigs in several sizes and a few spare eyes. I also have some clothes in different sizes, so unless I got a doll completely outside of a size range I have or had in the past I'd probably have something serviceable for them in the beginning. Though even before I had a lot of "stuff" I still worry about getting the doll home first.

    12. For my first doll I got about a $100 worth of items months before I got her, but for my other two I didn't bother and just let them wear what I had around, much to my regret. I definitely focus on getting the doll home before anything else, and I wish I was the type of person to focus on clothing!

    13. Well, it depends. I bought most of my dollies blank. To date I bought only 2 fullsets, and the first one was made of necklaces and rectangular bits of fabric. I haven't received the 2nd one yet. Most of my dolls are 'odd sized' and some were bought when not many people were making things for them. Others had similar sizes in shoes or wigs etc. so no need to hunt for anything till they showed up. The last one is a 'freak' because he is the only one whose body is 'main stream'. Because of this, I have been buying some clothes for him. Luckily, his shoe-size and his wig-size are the same as some of my other dolls, so I don't need to tackle these at the moment. By and large, I prefer to get the doll home and make things for it when it arrives.

    14. I have done both. Sometimes I order the doll and all he or she will have or have things ready. Other times they are bald and buck nekkid and then when they arrive I start hunting through what I have or start cruising to find them things.

    15. Full sets are very nice to have. I always try to make sure that they have something to put on when they come home. Course we went crazy with the fukubukuro bags this year so I have plenty of clothes in most sizes to spare.

    16. I usually buy the doll, then buy the wig and clothes before the doll arrives. :)
With my Suzette though, I'll wait to receive her before getting her clothes and eyes (but I ordered her full set clothes so she will have some clothes when she arrives ^^)

    17. I am the kind of person who enjoys instant gratification, so if I can bring her home with eyes, wigs, clothes, etc. I will.

I have two headless doll bodies in their boxes in my bedroom, awaiting for their heads to arrive back from the faceup artists. & I can tell you right now, it's killing me.
