1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Which of your family members are into BJDs?

Apr 14, 2007

    1. I'm trying to get my mom into BJDs, but she's a little resistant. I'm also trying for one of my very good friends, and I think I'm succeeding ^_^

That's one of the reasons why I joined DOA and another forum b/c I didn't want to feel like such a loner, lol.

    2. None of my family members are into my BJD hobby (unfortunately!). My parents think it's neat; whereas, one of my sisters thinks I'm the equivalent of the "crazy cat lady." C'est la vie. Most of my family is supportive though because I'm a 'visual artist who's prone to liking purportedly bizarre things.' Haha

    3. I have 3 sisters, one 1ยฝ-year-older [Kurisu] and two 3-years-younger (twins). We are all into Asia, me and my older sister are mainly interested in Japan and we both have two ABJDs. One of my twin sisters likes Korea a bit more than Japan and she wishes to get an ABJD when she has gathered enough money. the other twin likes Taiwan and actually wanted a ABJD once, but she gave it up fast, as she also loves horses and want to spend the money on Mando-pop CDs and horses.

    4. None of my family members has taken in interest in dollfies but my cats seem to like my dollfie.. does that count?;)

    5. None of my family's into BJD's... my parents actually just saw the visa bill for my Puki Lily and ranted on about how big a waste of money it was and how I should be saving that money. My dad actually told me he'd rather I waste the money on stuff like going to see movies and what-not :S

I have a feeling I probably won't be able to convert any of my friends either. I get along with them, but most of them have a very 'holier-than-thou' aura about them. I guess you could call them snooty. I hate it about them, but they're good friends in general. I'm really hoping to find a bunch of BJD friends here that live in Ottawa.

    6. My brothers like 'em... though the smaller one likes them better than the bigger one.
He'd love to have a Soom Lazule
My dad's fascinated of my boy's face-up but I guess that doesn't count

    7. None of my family or friends is into BJDs. In fact, I haven't heard of any person in my country who owns BJDs, given that the hobby is relatively recent and taxes make it incredibly expensive to import. But I'm sure there are more BJD fans out there, it's just that... we seem to be somewhat scarce. Anyway, getting back to the topic, I don't see any of my relatives getting interested in BJDs, but not because dolls aren't their thing, but because they "pursue" different hobbies. For instance, my sister loves stuffed toys and has quite pricey dolls, and my brother likes PVC statues and resin kits. So, you can say they're not getting BJDs because they don't have enough money left for them... For instance, my brother is getting PVCs in the coming months that will cost him more than a ball-jointed doll.

And regarding my parents... Well, my mother likes my (unexpensive) fashion dolls and has even showed them to other relatives, but as soon as she learns the price of a BJD I'm pretty sure she won't find these dolls are appealing anymore. So, no, I don't think she'll be getting interested in the hobby either.

    8. I think i just got my brother into it. I was just talking to him and mentioned i could see him toteing around a girl all dressed in gothic lolita and he agreed he would be one to do that, then i told him about the little ones, like the pukipuki's and he was all "O.O orly?" and i showed them to him and he said he'd have to get a whole bunch and he'd put them in weird places in his house to scare people, and he'd take them all out to meets and carry the whole lot around. Which would be so funny to see since he is over 6 foot.

    9. My sister and I are sort of getting into the hobby together. She hasn't been able to get onto the forums as often as I have (she hasn't been on in a while), but she's the one who told me to join doa.

My brother has absolutely no plans to collect, but is interested from a sculptor's/mechanical joint enthusiast's standpoint, and is the one who told me about BJDs.

      =^__^=

    10. I got my mother into it
She just ordered her first doll on Sunday, her doll will be here tomorrow.
I still have three weeks to wait for my first doll.

    11. I think Im the only one in my family that likes/collects BJD's. My aunt likes dolls (non BJD's) and teddy bears.

    12. My friends and family all think i'm "too old to be playing with dolls" (i'm 38), but they accept it. My mother in-law collects swaroski's so she understands the "collector" part of it. My mom is an African Violet grower... and travels all across the country to conventions and meetup, so she understands the "community" part of it.

My fiance loves to tinker in his woodworking shop, so he's been making me all kinds of benches, wig stands, geta sandals, a bed and lots of other neat toys.

...and one of my friends makes human jewlery, so she's started making doll jewlery for me too now.

None of them will ever get into the hobby themselves tho.

    13. No one ^_^~ In fact, each family member has a negative perception lol~ my sister finds it creepy... mom finds it a waste of money... dad thinks its a "doll" and therefore falls into the stereotypes of it being only for girls...

On a side note: my friends find it interesting lol~ interesting as in they would never get one xD but interesting that it looks nice :sweat

    14. my uncle likes them! we're making on together!

he thinks they're cool because he sees them from an artists standpoint because he's a sculpter (a good one too!)

my mom and dad accept that I love them but are not too interested in them (they'll go to meetups and stuff and let me talk about them and tell them about how the one I making is going but that's about it)

    15. Well, my significant other ))) And my (female) cousin. My mother shows interest, but so far talks about buying one only as a joke. And my s.o.'s mother, sister and niece are actually in process of choosing a doll.

    16. My mother likes the dolls and finds it a more refined hobby than manga-collecting. My little sister thinks I'm an idiot for even considering buying a doll at my age.

    17. As odd as it sounds, my dad is actually into the hobby, and really is the source of my three dollies, and also has one for himself.

    18. Juuust me, though my aunt and grandparents think they're neat. They just don't know the price tag, ahaha.

    19. My husband is into this hobby - almost) He owns a bjd too, for now she's the only girl in our doll family, funny as it sounds ) Although I get her dressed, he's the "official" owner and the one who choses her eyes, wigs and outfits. My little son likes her too, I guess he just likes girls so she's the obvious choice:lol:
My parents are mildly interested, Mom loves one of my dolls - the first one I got, an Uri Rich. My sister is too interested in guitars )) But I guess all of them like my bjd's.
Except for my mother-in-law ;) She thinks they're too refined and non-realistic )

    20. No one in my family other than myself has one, but my mom likes them. I don't think she'll buy one for herself, but she always likes looking for stuff and playing with mine.
For non-family, however, my friend really got into it once she saw mine. She's saving for a pipos now ^_^
