1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Who do you talk to and share you BJD ideas with?

Jun 26, 2015

    1. I am thankful that I can talk to my mom and "in real life" friends about dolls and toys...even if they themselves don't collect, they encourage or at least tolerate my hobbies without being mean about it. :)

    2. I guess my friends at work, although they're not into the hobby themselves so they kind of just listen and smile along :) So these forums are pretty cool as we get to talk here.

    3. I will talk to anyone who will listen to me honestly, I'm not too shy about my hobby. So far, my co-workers, boyfriend, and close friends have all had their ears talked off already!

    4. Hmm this may sound sort of lame but I just toss ideas around in my own head and don't really talk to others about the hobby. I'm the sort of person who likes to have full autonomy over what I do and I guess if I have an idea I'll just expand upon it myself and make it come true.

    5. My daughter and I started this hobby together so we share ideas. I have met several other owners in person, although have since moved away. My cousin is a doll collector (not bjd though) and loves talking to me about my bjds. I enjoy tremendously reading other's posts here on DOA and getting feedback. When I was working I would have my dolls shipped to work and fellow employees were fascinated by them, some even asking prices and where to get them. When I go to doll shows, I love to take a doll with me and I get a lot of interaction that way!

    6. I've got my sister, and she's the one I can share any ideas with. It's a great happiness having someone like that. We share every hobby together bringing different views to it, we also work together, and our tastes are also quite similar

    7. with my best friends or my sister who collects bjd as well

    8. I usually talk to my doll friends about it :) I've tried to talk to my partner but he gets all confused and doesn't seem to understand, but he tries to listen and make suggestions.

    9. Sadly I have no friends who are into BJDs so I talk to no one about my dolly ideas :sigh

    10. I really didn't have anyone to talk to about it til just recently when I messaged someone else on here about it. Otherwise, I don't know many people who are interested to talk to about dolls with me. It'd be fun to have more people though!

    11. Before I even knew about Den of Angels, I had no one to talk to except my boyfriend who knew nothing about BJDs. I just went to my local Barnes & Nobles and bought every single doll magazine that had any Asians Ball Jointed Dolls in it to help feed the hobby as I couldn't afford my first doll yet. After my boyfriend got me my first doll (we went to the Volks USA store together in Torrance back in the day), that experience converted him over into the hobby so that was great having someone I know understand what it's like. Once I had my first doll, I talked about her and showed her to friends and family which actually was a great way to find other potential BJD enthusiasts. One of my best friends ended up discovering DoA in her search to learn more about BJDs and introduced it to me (she's now a BJD owner as well with a fiance that potentially could be one as well). Since then, I've met other BJD owners at local meet-ups and again at the Volks USA store when it was physical store. I even attended my first Volks Dolls Party in Los Angeles last year with boyfriend-now-husband which really opened our eyes to the variety of BJD owners local and from afar. The "Community" tab under "Meetups" and "Conventions" is a good place to look. Hope you've had luck in your search!

    12. I usually share the dolls' things with people who like the dolls as well. DOA is a good place to know dolls' friends.

    13. I "only" have my girlfriend who also was the first one who showed and told me about this hobby. Then again I just got into this hobby so I should be lucky I even have anyone to talk about this hobby to.
The good thing is by the way that we live together and even collect and buy dolls together. She usually has the partner for my characters so we look for matching dolls together and purchase them at the same times so they get here together and do not have to be alone ^^

    14. I talk about the hobby with my parents and my grandma. I've also talked to my costume design professor about the hobby and brought up the idea of my class work be centralized around my doll now. Basically I'm excited for my first doll arrival and has talked to anyone about it who will listen. My excitement can't be contained.

    15. My mother is really the only one. She loves them, and loves to make clothing for them! She isn't interested in having them herself, but I can always talk to her about mine! : )

    16. I talk about my dolls a LOT lol ^-^ i'm really really lucky that i have a lot of people i can talk to them about with ^-^
my mom normally gets to hear all about everything i'm up to in the hobby and my room mate and i talk about dolls a lot ^-^
the other person i talk with the most about it would by my sister who has a doll of her own and the friend who got me into the hobby in the first place.
Other then those people i basically talk to everyone i know about it. I've been into to the less socially excepted hobbies my entire life. Anime, Manga, Cosplay, Crafting using furs and other discarded items. So because of that background it leaves me in a situation where i'm used to people not understanding my hobbies or even being put off by them. That makes it a lot simpler to just talk about them with people. So i do.
All of my friends know about my dolls most have no idea how much the hobby costs mind you^^; but i tell them about my dolls about the characters i've made for them the projects i'm doing with them. I wind up talking with the ladies who work at our local craft store about them and have even brought one of my dolls in to show them since they wanted to see him ^-^
Personally i have found that most people find my dolls interesting and that the people who do not are honest about it but are still nice. you know the whole "well i don't care for it but i'm glad if it makes you happy" sentiment.
I've found that the poeple that are generally artistic will love BJD's and are willing to talk about them and give them a chance ^-^ the most out of any group. Anime and manga people are also more willing to give them a chance ^-^

    17. I actually have no one to talk to about the hobby so just come here in the forums and make posts

    18. Same! I don't really know anyone who is into BJDs. My boyfriend, however, is extremely tolerant of getting ear-fulls. I think a lot of it goes over his head, but he seems to think it's interesting!

    19. My mom, definitely. She's the only one who really gets excited with me about my ideas for my doll and offers to help me with anything. I can only talk to her comfortably about my dolls, she understands it and is happy that I'm so happy :)

    20. yeah mine will listen just because I'm talking but I would like to be able to speak to someone in the hobby so I can really have a conversation and both parties knows about the topic and we can exchange ideas and knowledge with one another
