Why do you choose white skin dolls?

Jun 27, 2014

    1. I only once bought a white skin because it was a little fox. And the 'normal pink skin' sounded a bit odd to me for an animal. I would have deffinitly gone with a tan skin if they had it, but there was only white or normal pink. Personally I can see why people love the white skin or how their dolls fit in it, but personally I'm not a real fan of white skin dolls (especially not the paper white). They always look so much more prettier when they are other people's dolls ^-^ Or customised as ghosts or magical creatures! Maybe for me it's the same reason as Witchcraft had, but then the other way around. Since I have a pale skin myself and I don't like having such a pale skin. I don't realy get a nice teint during the summer either ):

    2. Either it was the only skin tone offered, it looked better, or it fits better. Chessa is white skin because that's what the recent SwD SDGr Nono head was made with. When I had Soom's Remaining Story line little gems, I liked the look of Soom's white resin over the normal. The minifee Shushu I'm waiting on is white skin because she's a character doll of Disney's Elsa who has very pale skin.

    3. Of my entire crew of over 30 dolls, only 3 are white skin. Amir and Loki were my first dolls, 6 years ago, and I wanted the goth look at the time. I'd never seen resin in person when I ordered Amir, and I thought NS would be too dark. So i got him in WS, and Loki was even more goth than Amir, so also needed white. Neither boy is goth anymore, but I couldn't bring myself to change them. Besides, Amir has green eyes and white blond hair, so WS looks best on him. He's supposed to look unusual or exotic in character.

Cearnaigh....was an accident. I bought his head secondhand, it was listed as NS. I didn't realize Iplehouse NS varied so much, because as soon as I opened him, I thought for sure he was WS, though the seller said she had IH WS, and assured me this head was NS. I'm still confused as to what he is, because he matches my WS dolls from other companies and is lighter than all of my IH dolls, but when I took him to a meet, no one could agree on what he was. It's like he's inbetween. But he matches FDoll WS, so that's what body he got. I had planned NS for him, but being an Irish redhead with lots of freckles, the light skin really isn't a bad thing. In fact, it's probably better than a dark NS-Y would have been for his character.

    4. I don't have many white resin dolls anymore. I find that I prefer the way normal-skin resins age... But for those few BWs that I *do* still have in the collection, their color was either the result of picking what best suited the character they were meant to represent (Sjhan, Galen and Scribe are all supposed to be very pale guys, for instance-) or they're "left overs" from the days when I had more BWs around. In other words, dolls that I'm individually very attached to, and didn't want to sell on and replace with a normal skin version of the same sculpt (Al and Issun definitely come under that heading).

In one case (Nightengale), the white resin doll has extensive mods that can't easily be reproduced. There's no replacing him with a NS version, as much as I might love to at this point. I think Armelia would run for the hills if I asked her to rebuild those ears!

So, yeah. My white resin dolls are either entirely a "character thing" or left-over legacy dolls from an earlier era of my collection.

    5. I don't like white skintone. It looks too unnaturally

    6. I'm going to do a green tinted body blush and I think it will look better on white skin. I just think it will make the colors pop more.

    7. I appreciate how shapes of the dolls pronounce more with white skin. And the face up/body blush options are limitless, as white goes with anything.

    8. If I buy white skin it's because it's what I had in mind for the character. I have a serious love for the perfect-pale-skin-with-dark-hair look, which I think is just a little bit otherworldly while still looking like the character could exist somewhere. Maybe somewhere dark.

I keep the white skin unique from the rest of my dolls, though--it wouldn't have much of an impact if he also had three friends who were almost albino-pale. I am looking at shelling this character's father as well, and in that case the white skin can be used to clearly show their relation even if the features I end up choosing aren't very close.

    9. So far, all my white skinned dolls are undead. My normal-to-dark skinned dolls are living. This may change if I need a doll for a ridiculously pale character who's fully alive, but right now it's like this.

    10. I like really pale people and find beauty in it. I am also really pale. Whenever I make an avatar in a rpg game I make my character have white white skin. That being said. I find the dark colored skin ones pretty too and may one day get one. I want all kinds of dolls, so I might get one.

    11. Do I actually need a reason if I find WS more beautiful?

    12. My first boy was going to be a vampire, but they also offered black skin. So I was in doubt for a second, but decided I really wanted a white skin vampire first. My other vampires are white skin too (also because tan wasn't available). Chung-Cha was supposed to become one, but she "refused" so she is just a porcelain skinned human. LOL. Shoshana is also white skin, a fantasy creature and second hand, so I couldn't choose ns if I wanted to. In fact, only one of my fantasy chars is ns, my mermaid girl. When going for ghost characters, most people go for white skin dolls too, but mine is tan. xD

    13. I like WS because it can make your colours to look bolder. I also agree that it can make them look more delicate.

    14. for me, white skin makes the dolls seem a little like plaster statues, which could be a desired effect depending on the sculpt.

    15. I simply love really pale dolls/skin tones in general to be honest. I've also heard Dollzone white yellows to a lovely cream colour -- and both of my dolls are from Dollzone.

    16. All of my white skin dolls were chosen because either that was what was available from the company or that's what I could find secondhand. I have a really hard time doing face ups on white skin so it's something I try to avoid when possible but I find it appealing in certain cases.

    17. My first doll is a DZ in WS that was from the marketplace about... 6 years ago? and while he hasn't yellowed too terribly he has ever so slowly begun to mellow to a rather attractive ivory color. I think this is why I will be keeping to WS dolls in some cases. The ivory color is pleasant and antique lookig rather than odd ^^ i'm not sure that I would ever go for doll with more pigment because of the more noticeable changes over time.

    18. I prefer ws dolls if the doll looks somewhat Elvish. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings or Final Fantasy or something c:
I think it does point towards your character requirements too... But that's just what I think c:

    19. I have two dolls in white skin, and in both cases I didn't actually choose this skin tone.
Once I was simply sent the doll in white skin instead of what I'd ordered, normal. Didn't want to go through the whole hassle of returning him, waiting another couple of months, etc.
In other case, I got that doll second hand. Loved the mold, didn't care what skin tone it was in.
Overall, I prefer normal to white.

    20. I generally try to avoid white skin dolls these days, because I've had trouble with them yellowing badly.
Of the three I have, two are about 7 years old now before I knew how they would age; one is a vampire and the other is a dhampir. For the dhampir in particular, I knew the company's NS shade was just too dark for the character. (Although I have another NS doll from the same company, so now I know it would have aged to just about right.)

The newest WS is a centaur, and the options were white or pink. Pink just wouldn't have looked right on the horse parts.
