Why do you choose white skin dolls?

Jun 27, 2014

    1. I like WS because it makes my fantasy dolls seem more magical.

    2. My first doll was a white skinned doll. I bought him directly from the company and he was completely gorgeous when I opened the box. He's based off of one of my characters who's a king. He was frail and sheltered as a child and he remained like this throughout adulthood. Currently he's my only ws and I love him.

    3. I buy white skin if I feel it will suit the dolls character. Sometimes NS is just not light enough, right? I'm not really into the ones that are "paper white" that can be a bit extreme, but then again there may come a use for it someday. One time my mom bought me a Resin Soul doll in WS because it was all they had left at the Junky Spot and she grabbed it lol. I was totally cool with it. I had the attitude that the doll was fatefully creating herself lol. I made her a red head because of it.
Sometimes I will buy white because I feel that NS is too "tanned" and I want a pale "British Isles-looking" character. I myself am fair skinned without any ability to tan so I can identify with the white skin sometimes.
I like white skin when it is "ivory" or has some other sort of shade to it. I really like Spirit Doll's white skin--I had a very hard time trying to figure out the difference between that company's WS and NS and confirm that it would not be "paper white." So I ordered the doll in WS and it turned out to be beautiful. Don't hate me for saying this but I can't stand vampires (in general) and wouldn't make a doll one, and don't believe that white skin is limited to any kind of undead character.
Now I'm going to give you guys the disclaimer that I LOVE to look at other people's dolls--even the vampires--and don't hold that against anyone. I support anything that my fellow hobbyists do, and those who have vampire dolls are welcome to hang out with me! lol.

    4. I chose ws for my BBB Mei because she is portraying an evil elf from the underground world that never saw the sunlight .I also think it's really pretty , but in my opinion all skin-tones are beautiful on the right mold ^^.

    5. I have some reasons for some of my dolls being ws:
      1. Being an android, so ws will look artificial next to "living" dolls.
      2. Being undead/not human, similar reason as no.1.
      3. Being from a northern country and therefore being much paler than others.
      4. Being able to look awesome in black clothing because of the high contrast. :P

    6. I don't actually 'like' white skin as an option if I were just buying a doll and picked out a resin color. I've always gotten it when I am shelling a pre-existing character into a doll and that character had pale skin. That's why I own two WS dolls that are paper white. If I am only given the option between NS and WS for a doll I don't have a preset character for, I'll always pick NS. My actual preference is for tan dolls, in an array of shades. I'm actually really happy it's becoming more of an option than it was when I first got into the hobby.

I guess I should also note my first two dolls were my only two WS dolls. They were both undeadish characters.

    7. I don't go for paper white skin really, because the characters I'm looking to make are normal humans.
I do like cream white skins sometimes though? The ones that look really pale but not white white. I think it suits even normal human characters when they are supposed to be pale.
I'm still thinking whether to get normal or white skin of a doll because I do like pale but then again I do like the natural glow that normal skin has...

    8. I choose white when I want nothing to distract from the vibrant color of the doll's eyes, really, and I prefer to do the face-up on a white doll myself because I can really play with the jewel-tone colors in my pastels box. My white dolls usually look faerie, not dead, to me.

    9. It really depends... It might be a very pale human character that I want to shell, or a demon... A fairy creature, or even a literally dead character like a ghost. I pick white skin for a variety of reasons really. =p it also has to do with the company however, as white skin tones can vary a lot.

    10. I have never chosen a brand new white doll. My new dolls have always been normal or tan. My white dolls are all second hand, and I couldn't have gotten them any other way.

My first white doll used to belong to a local BJD group member, and I liked her so much the first time I saw her. When my friend decided to sell the doll, I jumped at the chance.

My second white doll is actually a pale normal DIM Minimee head who happens to match his Dollzone white resin body better than he would a normal resin body.

My third white doll is a Dollzone Floy head, who was a gift from a very kind friend. I purchased him a white 60cm DZ body to match.

My fourth white doll was a Dollfie Dream body, who was ALSO a gift from a very kind friend. (I did make my friends take some money to at least cover shipping, LOL!) I purchased a white DDH-03 head for the body so I could have a complete doll.

My fifth white doll is also a Dollfie Dream, a DDH-04 that I fell in love with from DoA.

I think I wouldn't pick white if I had another choice. Generally it is too stark and pale for me. But I do love the ones I have. They all photograph well with my normal and tan dolls, and don't stand out too much. I do like them for the variety.

    11. Because a lot of my characters are pale as hell basementdwellers. I also like the look of mellowed white skin on most of my dolls when I've had them for a couple years. It makes them look a little sickly with the right face up. Perfect.

    12. It depends on the sculpt/character, some sculpts just look more fairy-like or "whimsical" with white skin as opposed to normal. When I get larger dolls they're usually dark skin but smaller ones are lighter.... i don't do that intentionally though it just happens ; w;

    13. I like it (sometimes) because it's the closest to a fantasy skin available. Often I'd rather have something like blue or purple. And you can white skin without paying extra which often happens when tan is offered. Not that tan is a fantasy color, it's just not always an option.

    14. My first doll was a pale one because I'm pale. The second one was tan because I wanted the two to be different. Third one I got was pale because she was for a pale WoW character. The Fourth I got was fleshtone, again, to match the WoW character. Then I got 4 Hujoos, each one a different color. Now Amiga, my current doll, has a pale head and a fleshtone body because that's what I could get my hands on. >.< I'm hoping to get her a pale body to match her head.

    15. I'm not into paper white dolls, but most of my dolls are very pale as I prefer "whites" that are similar to for example Dollstown Freshskin, which is technically not a white I suppose. Some companies normal skin tones can be a bit too dark or peachy for my taste so if there is an option for a pale, I will go in that direction, but I would also like to own a tan doll eventually.

    16. I don't own any white skin dolls - my closest is my freshskin Dollstown boy which isn't very white at all. I definitely consider the character when deciding on resin colour if choosing a shade is possible from the company. In truth I'd probably select a grey skin or tan for my fantasy types and reserve white skin for anthro's or a unique human type with highly customized body blushing and face up.

    17. White is my favourite resin colour.
I pick white because any colour you put onto it shows up exactly like it should. The whiter the better in my opinion.
I find it really, really hard to bond with NS dolls since the paint/pastel never shows up like I want it to... but weirdly, I like tan haha!

    18. I feel a little weird answering here because I don't actually own a doll yet (though one should be getting here soon!) but it will be a white skin, and I imagine 90% of my future dolls will be white skin as well. For me personally, I love the delicate-ness of white skin, and as I plan on basing dolls around my OCs, many have unusual skin tones -pale grey, blue tint etc. so getting white skin seems the easiest way to obtain that with blushing :)

    19. I like the look of white skin dolls, especially the CP WS after it has mellowed. I didn't really think too much about WS or NS when I first bought my doll (only my first doll is WS so far, but his sister would be WS too), but I just like how it looks. I have to admit paper white is a bit too much for me, but a light yellow/pink tone WS is really pretty for some characters :) With that said, I tend to prefer WS after it has mellowed a bit though.

    20. I don't choose them. Except I've found a few second hand that were cheap and matched ideas I had where skin-colour didn't matter.
