Why do you think BJDs are anatomically correct?

May 12, 2007

    1. Second this. Why on earth is this topic so popular?

    2. This one is actually kind of old, if you look at the OP's post date.

    3. True, but it's recently been brought up multiple times.

    4. Well I'm adding to it, cause it's the first time I've seen this, surprisingly enough.

I find it funny that so many are saying Asians are more lax about nudity than Western cultures. If anything, I find it the opposite. O_o In Hong Kong, from what I've seen anyway, people go all haywire if an actress wears an especially low cut top. And nudity on screen is - well, a big deal.

    5. It has been brought to the attention of some of us that the Asian market has always made dolls of gender. Asian culture does not look upon sexuality in a puritanistic way as do some western cultures. If one goes and speaks to antique doll collectors and goes to dolls shows to ask about gendering they will tell you it has been around for years. To understand doll collecting in general one must take the blinders off and see past the current Asian BJD trends and go to the roots of antique doll collecting. There is a wealth of knowledge these collectors have. Dolls have been made from the beginning of time amulets, goddess statues, some gendered, some not.Ball joints are not a new phenomenon. They have been around well over a century. Yes y one may not be into antiques but one can learn from antique collectors. They may be old and dirty but they have pates, wigs, glass interchangable eyes, made of wood, compost, leather, porcelain and are ball jointed, animated, and articulated. It would be wise to learn from past generations as dolls are part of history and eras in society and so serve a greater purpose than just to be anatomically correct. :doh

    6. :aheartbea

    7. And the dolls of today will be in the same place in one hundred years. I was surprised to read from some old magazines that doll collectors were spending $5000 and up on dolls, only ten to twenty years ago (Doll collector magazines are cool no matter what year they were printed)!

So yeah, get a better perspective by looking back as far as you can find doll collecting.

    8. At first I was rather disturbed by the genitalia. I am 23 years old and these are the first anatomical dolls I have ever seen. It took some getting used to, but now I can't imagine them with a nondescript mound in their pants. It makes them seem even more like perfect little people.

    9. lol. Seriously?

People like to talk about sex. It is human nature.

    10. Aren't "anatomically correct" dolls quite common? I have not seen too many mature dolls of that kind, but at least in Norway, most baby dolls are gendered. I remember I got this odd doll when I was a kid, with a granny hairdo, a boys penis and a frilly blue dress. Lol. But seriously. Why should the dolls not be "correct"? I can unsderstand people not fancying dolls with "pornographic" detailing, but I think it seems just natural for the dolls to be gendered.

    11. why? i think thats simply because the goal on most bjds appearance seems to be to try to get them as realistic as possible

they sculpt muscles that dont look like they are made for hulk hogan, they look average

they sculpt veins on their hands and they have that cute inward curve where the neck meets the collar bone

they have different sizes in the female chests

so why wouldnt they go a step further?

i hope they someday make chubbier dolls too, someone here has chubby tinies they sculp themselves and they are so cute!

and also as people have already mentioned nudity and anatomically correct isnt as rare in the places these dolls are made.

    12. That's because the low-cut top is usually there for sex-appeal, and nudity on screen - well, I've yet to see a case where it wasn't pertaining to sex in some way. (No wait, I did. But it's very rare)

The asian culture is more lax about non-sexual nudity. You know, bath houses and the like. Sex, however? As taboo (if not more) as anywhere else.

I'd like to think most people do not find the anatomical correctness of these dolls sexual in any way... just a depiction of the human body. You can be naked outside of sexual situations, right?

Anyways. I'd like my boy to have his bits, thank you very much. His character is that of a boy just starting to go through puberty, and taking away his peen would probably be the most cruel thing ever. (He's quite proud of it, see). I think it's necessary for the shell of my character, and would consider getting him a new body if he didn't have one.

    13. Well i don't know about most of you here, nut i find myself noting often that most male dolls bits are a tid bit on the small below average side whilst the women get exceedingly large boobiehs XD

It amuses me, and that's why I like this topic :)

    14. At first I thought it was strange that they had all the goodies and stuff, but then I saw one of the genderless BJDs and it just seemed so, I don't know, unrealistic. It made me think of a Barbie xD

    15. thank god bjds are anatomically correct. ive always been weirded out about Ken not having boy bits DX

    16. I notice a lack of Vaith in here. >> Seems like the third time is the charm!

It has nothing to do with any sort of "obsession." I don't shop for dolls based on how hung they are. If they did not have penises, I would probably still buy the boy dolls I like. But I must say, it would be awkward for them to be flat. I prefer ALL men with penises. My dad has a penis. My brother and boyfriend have one. Why not my boy dolls? I think if I were to find out that any of the men I associate with don't actually have one, I would be quite taken aback. 0__o I want my boy dolls to be boys in as many ways as possible within the realms of resin possibilities. It's not like they aren't mistaken for girls anyway..

And for girl dolls, I don't mind them having breasts. If you think about it, if penises are obscene on dolls, so are boobs. Both are just lumps under fabric. :P Breasts are just more prominent. And there isn't much that's offensive to the eyes about doll vaginas.

All that being said, I find the concept of "angels" having no genitalia to be disturbing. D8 As a Christian, I hope that when I go to heaven I don't lose my gender. I hope my boyfriend is still my BOYfriend. I fail to comprehend why "pure and innocent" angels= no penis or vagina

    17. Sorry but I had to quote this. Cause this never came to mind for me.
That is a very strange idea to me. You go to heaven and you're now genderless. Oi. SO many thoughts on that come to mind.
Like why were you made with those bits in the first place if you loose them when you go to heaven? Bleh. Enough OT though!

I never even thought anything about the boys and girls having their proper bits when I got into this hobby. The thought didn't even cross my mind that they did and that was strange/new/different/anything.

I always thought barbie looked... Trampy and frightening with her giant chest of doom and I always thought it was utterly stupid how it became an issue cause she was a bad role model for girls. I played with barbie, never wanted to look like her! I liked having feet I could use to walk and boobs that didn't make me topple over XD

And Ken. Oi, I felt bad for him! I always wondered how he got... Hurt or broken or if he was just a really masculine girl, to be honest. He didn't look right!

As it's been said in here. Kids know. People know. We all have bits. That's nice. So long as there isn't a sculpt made so our dollies can have... "relations" I don't think it'll ever phase me.

    18. lol. Well. I would feel bad for my boys if they just had nothing... xD And I suppose those baby dolls you can buy have bits too.

...Also, about American companies thinking that giving them no bits would stop kids from doing dirty things with their dolls... I still made my barbies hook up with eachother. (...I guess I was a weird child, though? xD)

    19. I just want to know how angels would go pee-pee... :sweat I'm retarded.

And ever since I watched the movie Dogma and that scene where Metatron (and I watched it after I knew Alan Rickman for being Snape so of course it stuck in my head...) pulls off his pants to show his genderlessness... Going without man bits is the weirdest concept ever.

xD This reminds me of when I saw this commercial for a baby doll that wet itself and in the fine print at the bottom of the screen was "boy baby is anatomically correct" ...as if the girl one was incorrect or something...

:-/ I dunno what the big deal about boy parts is... I guess it's that penises stick out while vaginas don't.

I dunno. It seems logical that Saif has man bits... I always thought Barbie's painted or molder underwear was the weirdest thing ever (especially since it seemed like not all of them had that... I had far too many Barbies as a child... Wasn't much for Ken aside from occasional obligatory doll-shipping. xD)

    20. I would assume that angels also don't need to eat and drink.. and if they do, it probably goes poof to a magical place. XD They're not human, after all.

I would really only order a genderless doll if it was part of the character's overall design. The rest of mine are meant to have genders and such and I like having the bits there so I don't have to pretend. XD; My Pullips/Taeyangs feel a bit weird to me because they lack these bits, and although I love them to pieces, they're not as fun to pose nude because there's nothing to actually creatively hide.
