Why do you think BJDs are anatomically correct?

May 12, 2007

    1. This. I actually do have a few characters I've created that are genderless, so I wouldn't object to genderless bodies being available. I don't know much about the volks angel bodies but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume they're expensive? :sweat I would love for my genderless character to have a doll one day even though it's not the top of my priorities. I wouldn't object

TL;DR I wouldn't mind having genderless bodies available, but I wouldn't ever want all of them that way.

    2. i don't want my dolls being that detail <------(im 14 XD )
its not that i wouldn't want it, it just be hard explaining to my mother why my doll has a wee-wee

    3. It's so you can prove your bishi doll is really a boy of course!
In all seriousness, though, I suppose the sex of a doll doesn't matter too much..all that matters is if your doll has breasts or not, and they needn't really bother between the legs.

    4. I think most "kids" 13 and up (13 is the age limit for DoA I think) know a good deal about anatomy anyway. I know when I was around 11 my health class did the infamous lesson/slideshow about sex, so it's not like it's a huge mental shock when a little teenage girl sees a boy dolls penis.

But, at the same time, a part of me is just dumbfounded at kids of 13 and 14 collecting such expensive dolls. :P

    5. because doll sculptors are pervs! just kidding, haha. it really just adds to the perfection image of the doll, i think...

    6. I bought Araki Gentaro's COM'P-X recently, and was blown away by his sheer skill and genius, although only a small part of it was devoted to BJDs. Then almost to the end of the book, I turned the page and saw -- a cute little doll with an e-NOR-mous erection! It was all out of proportion to the doll, and one picture was a close-up so you could admire its realism. To make it worse, in some pictures he was wearing jockey shorts over it.
Not reading Japanese, I had no idea what it was about, but finally decided that it probably was from an art show and Gentaro made it to provoke thought (and for a good laugh). We are used to a limp penis from classical art, but the only erect penises from that era were on satyres chasing nymphs around Greek vases, and the winged phalluses on walls pointing the way to brothels.
If you have heard of the book, and are interested in Gentaro Araki, I would still highly recommend it. If you have kids, though, be prepared for somewhat embarrassing questions!

    7. It's in the realism for me. Because ABJDS look real, have all those beautiful details, to the point that they seem like mini-humans... When I was a kid, I used to imagine what it would be like if dolls could come to life (not in the ARRRGH!chucky way), looking like mini-humans. That was before I knew about ABJDs.

And when I knew about them, it was like... an imagination come true. (Sorry, got side-tracked.)

Yup, so to answer the question, it's to make the dolls more real. ^^

    8. IMO a huge part of collecting bjds is the realism factor. This affects everything from the look of the doll right through to joint movement and poseability. For some collectors having an anatomically correct doll is a necessity, to help them achieve the character/personality that they want their bjd to acquire.

    9. It’s a subject worth of some giggles, but as it is a real life issue with people and I’m curious to hear how much doll collectors are affected by the size of their dolls penises. I’ve noticed around me that size can be an issue. My DoT boy has not been spared from certain jokes and my new Souldoll Double boy has joined him (as long as the jokes are not meant to be hurtful towards me, I don’t mind). People have asked me if I would fix it with epoxy, because they pity my boys and I’ve heard that some people were considering enlarging the penis of their doll, because they were afraid people would make fun of it.
On the other end of the spectrum, I’ve heard people complain about the well endowed boys like Dollshe boys, Soom super gem, and mecha angels in combination with pants that won’t fit or "wear down" in that area or general reactions of shock about the size.

So, my question is: Are you comfortable or uncomfortable with the size of your doll’s penis? Would you change anything about that doll part or is it not an issue to you?

    10. I will love my boy(s) no matter what they come with D: If they were meant to have that penis, then they were meant to have it ;A; I know he'll get laughs from my mom and sister though :<
So if on my dolls they're small its fine, if its overly super large thats fine too. xD

    11. Haha, I tease my boys all the time, whether they be big or small. My DollShes I can pick up by their peens and they tend to get caught when I'm pulling their pants on. My old DiM doll (first-edition R-Asiam) I tease him cause it looks all shriveled.... my boy with the DollZone mini body has bigger junk than him. And then of course there's my poor LadyS Ted, who is supposed to be a boy but the bodies are genderless XD;; his hasn't grown in yet, apparantly. Still, I love all my guys no matter what they're packing downstairs.

    12. Well, more importantly, why is G.I Joe's feet so friggin huge and his head so small?!That's messed up, what's more messed up is he can't even stand up on those friggin huge feet. >__>
and he's shorter than barbie dolls!
HE'S FIRGGIN G.I JOE HE'S NOT EVEN AS TALL AS A BLONDE WHO CAN'T HOLD ONE JOB FOR LONGER THAN 3 DAYS. Dolls have been confusing children for far too long. I support any "realistically" (No giant breasts ect.) anatomically correct doll, for children anyways. And abjd's are less like dolls, and more like posable statues. And where would the Statue Of David be without his masculine proportions? xD

    13. I never even thought about this, 'till I started sculpting my own doll. The question "won't people think his penis is too small" keeps entering my mind. (and I haven't even started with the people who think I should make him gender-less) Proportion-wise, his somewhat smaller than usual package looks kind of silly, yet I would like him to be able to wear pants.
Yesterday I've finally decided to keep it like this. It's small, yes, but at least I'm sure that I can dress him in whatever I want.

    14. I agree with those comments.
And I think the clothes fit better in a anatomically correct doll too.
But when my sister's little boy came home (first BJD boy I've seen naked) I was a bit shy to see him all naked (and so, I made for him underwears XPPPPP) and he is an MSD oo'
I think it's kinda disturbing BJDs sites that don't censure those parts, mainly in SD's uu''

    15. I think part of it may be that the kanji for doll literally mean "human form", so being true to human form the genitals and other parts would have to be included. Not that all Asian doll companies do this mind you.
I do like some of the genderless dolls, but I prefer my dolls to have the parts to go with their sex. It just makes sense.

    16. it adds to the realism.

i've noticed that america seems to be the only country that automatically thinks of nudity being sexual. the human body is a beautiful thing, and should be apprieciated as such, instead of the "OMG EW NAKEDNESS!1!!111" that so many people think of.

i've never had a problem with nudity.
      i don't understand why anyone does :|

    17. so that when ppl say your doll looks like a girl, you can drop there pants and say, nope pretty sure girl dont got these..Eric has had that happen to him so many times. he should feel violated

    18. It just makes sense to me for the dolls to have realistic bits. Granted, I haven't blatantly stared at Belladon's (mostly because I just got him yesterday and don't have a change of clothes for him yet), but I don't think it will matter much to me. I remember when I was little I always tried to make my Barbie and Ken dolls have sex, and it didn't work with the genderlessness. XD

    19. It is an art of the human body (Or anything else..;) ) SO why not? I think we should explore everything we can. Personally, I would like a hermphrodite doll. Actually...

      This has just inspired me......*smirk*

    20. LOL! Me too on the last part. XDDDDDD
