It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Why don't dolls come with clothes?

Aug 8, 2014

    1. I bought a full set and the cost was certainly worth it. She came with a wig, clothing and shoes and the seller included some tiny extras. I agree that standard dolls should atleast come with some basic attire but nothing to the extent of an actual set. More like a simple but cute set of underwear to cover the nudeness. It's a little extra gift for the buyer that many will be able to appreciate.

    2. It would be super nice if dolls would come with their underwear from company but...I haven't gotten one with them yet. So I actually order some clothes while waiting their arrival or if I have free time, I would sew some for them but from my experience I prefer to sew after received them because sometime their body measurement from company just different from the truth.

    3. Honestly... I've got two Angel of Dream dolls, who came with underwear, and I pretty much never use it. None of the rest of my dolls came with clothes; one had the option to buy additional clothing off the site for a fairly reasonable price, but I decided none of it fit my girl's style and decided against it. Similarly with one I'm looking at now, the site offers some basic outfits, but again I'm not sure any fit her style.

Still, I think that's probably the best compromise to everything; if a company can offer the doll, and then a small selection of simple, inexpensive outfits (a few dresses for the girls, a few pant/shirt combinations for both, and nothing outlandish) with perhaps a bit of a discount if ordered along with a doll, that might be a good way for them to go (and I do believe some companies are already set up similarly to this!). That way, those who don't want their doll to come naked can select an outfit without breaking the bank, and those who don't care or don't like the offered clothing don't have to pay for something they don't want.

    4. Some doll companies and people who sell clothes and props do give you freebies. My Elfdoll Mir came with underwear and eyes, which were very nice and useful. Most of the time though, if someone sends me a gift with a purchase, it is so useless as to be funny. I bought a wig for my big Iplehouse male doll, it came with a tiny pink hair bow. I bought a gorgeous oak armoire to store my doll clothes in off of Etsy... the craftsperson included an American girls doll dress, lavender with sequins, that I have no use for. The simplest thing to do is to make something simple like a robe, based on the measurements listed for your incoming doll (always leave and extra inch or two at the armpit so the doll can move it's arms). If you can't sew at all, then go on this site and hunt around for a " What fits" list for your doll on it's discussion thread. Most of us have pretty particular tastes. I make all of my own doll clothes... I have never seen much of anything I would want to buy.

    5. I don't mind that the doll doesn't come with clothes, since the company would likely add that cost into the doll anyways. I would like an option of purchasing underwear, because like vicemage, I purchased and AoD boy body and it did come with underwear, but it was not something I would have my boy wear and he's currently wearing a different pair of undies that I bought from Tata's. I do wish some companies had a wider selection of clothing for their dolls so that I knew it would fit them, but I don't expect companies to give an outfit as a gift, nor would I want to pay for an outfit that my doll wouldn't be wearing.

    6. I don't want my dolls to come with clothing. There's a very good chance I wouldn't like what it was anyway; I've yet to find a fullset I like and doubt I will. I tend to have very specific ideas in mind about what my doll is going to wear and I consider this cost/time part of getting the doll. I'm not going to buy a doll unless I know I can get or make the clothing, wig, and eyes I want for it. If I don't have the funds or the time, I don't think it's a good time for me to buy myself a doll. I think if this were to be a thing, I would hope it was optional as to not add to the price of the dolls. It's fine if people want to buy the clothing in the promo pictures, but I don't want to be forced into it.

    7. This is why I deal with secondhand dolls. They often come with extras (like clothing), they ship faster, and they cost less!

    8. It'd be kind of neat if a doll arrived with hair, eyes, and some kind of simple undies or something, but I feel like it'd be a waste of money for the company to do so since the default stuff would probably never be used or it'd be sold. And I certainly don't want prices raised a notch just for companies to be able to do this.

The whole point in me buying BJDs is so I can make and dress them up the way I want, so it'd be a little pointless for them to include these things for me. It'd be a nice surprise, but ultimately unnecessary.

I suppose companies might could offer a "starter set" option for their default dolls for those new to the hobby who have nothing, and maybe make it cost a little extra for like a random wig, eyes, and simple underwear. Even then though, I don't see the point as most people start shopping in anticipation for their doll's arrival the moment they place their order. With the shipping waits being as long as they generally are direct from a company, it gives you plenty of time to stock up for arrival.

    9. I think Blue Fairy dolls come with a basic pajama set and possibly even a wig, but I can't quite remember. Even basic outfits and can be costly though (have you seen the price of some jeans for bjds sometimes? lol) so overall, it'd probably just be tacked onto the dolls overall price, making them more expensive.

    10. I'd rather not pay for something I don't want, so I'm glad I can get a naked unpainted doll. If there were options for clothing that I actually liked, I'd be happy to have the choice, but I'd much rather my doll came as a blank canvas so i could make or buy the exact things I wanted. If clothing were a non optional extra, then prices would have to go up...I'd rather that extra money go to something I'd picked out personally.

    11. I would really like it if all boys (and the baby girls) came with underwear and older girls with underwear and a bra. It would make them easier to display while I'm making them clothing or buying them stuff to wear. I wouldn't want myself or the doll maker to pay extra for a default outfit I may not like.

    12. That would actually be a neat idea. For some dolls (odd sizes) it would be nice to have something to start with. But on the other hand I am also the type that does not order the fullsets for a reason. The clothes look awesome, but they usually don't fit the character I have for the doll. I am awaiting a doll atm who will come with some clothes (event gift) I am curious, but my hopes aren't too high. But they could always be used as patterns.

    13. It really depends on the company. I understand that you want a little something to come with your doll so it isn't naked, but I also understand why they usually don't offer anything like that. I think people should have to pay for the extra stuff.
