1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why is it doll companies like iplehouse, luts and volks are so popular?

    1. Notdoll! I loved their dolls. I have only one though - Ligaya Winter Eternity. :D
What about Doll in Mind? Did they show up after 2005?

    2. When I first looked into BJDs and the different companies years ago, many of the dolls I fell in love with (CP, Elfdoll, etc.) are now no longer available. I thought, well....maybe I'll just get a Fairyland version of the CP sculpts I loved but alas, I am far too late to the hobby now that I can afford it. While Soom is still around and Volks as well, for me it's about the doll itself and patience. If I get lucky enough for the doll to be on the cheaper side because it's second hand or older, whoo hoo! If not, I'll save for it. Basically I'm just a broken record with what others have said, but it's about the doll and what I like vs dislike. Company reliability is a factor to some extent, as when you are spending that much money you don't want to end up with trouble after waiting for months and months.

So the BJD market grew a lot in a short timespan, going from about 29 makers to 55. Though I can't be entirely sure the list is accurate and complete because I added at least one maker that was missing from the list I'm working off of. And I am pretty sure one of them was actually around in 2004. Since there's no "official archivist" of BJD history it's all I got.

(makers that still exist are bolded, makers new to the list by the end of 2005 in blue)
