1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Why make up stories for your dolls?, it's just a doll, right?

Sep 10, 2009

    1. The doll needs a story. It makes it more attractive for the game, talking with her. And also allows you to come up with her beautiful image, that is, through stories you can come up with a beautiful costume,make-up. I believe that Yes,the doll needs her story. But while for my dolls did not come up. Maybe with time .

    2. For me the story was there long before I even knew about BJDs. I just thought it would be fun to make the characters into dolls :) So for me some of the dolls are existing characters with a story while some of them don't have a story and such so it depends.

    3. A few of my dolls are dolls I bought because I thought they were pretty-- it wasn't after I got them that they got a backstory. They sometimes get used for RP but I really like to have a story for them and somewhere to fit in. The rest of my dolls are based on characters I had before and I think it adds a lot of depth to them (personally).

    4. I have a loose backstory for each of my dolls, but sometimes I like to come up with detailed personality quirks for them. I love writing stories. It will be worse when I shell one of my OTPs as Tiny Delfs. They will have all of the adventures.

    5. I'd love to make a story for my dolls, because I really love my dolls :aheartbea also it's fun to take pictures of them and posing them for your own dolls story!
I enjoy reading other owners stories and I hope someday I can make one and share it here, hopefully if I'm not that lazy xD

    6. Oh this question intrigued me too! I was shy not to have any story for my doll for a long time, really. I thought I'm not a real (or good) hobbyist
      Maybe that's why I left bjd-hobby for a 5 (! :o ) years... but now I returned and understand that it's not so important as I thought c: if I like my dolls I like them, it's enough x))

    7. It allows me to adore and cherish my characters in a physical form and not just in my head/on paper.
Also because if I don't have a story for my dolls I can't then make their personality, make their outfits/designs, or even be interested in them. They just sit there like an empty coin jar.
I've made stories for dolls that I've gotten without making characters first. I'm selling two of my dolls because I don't do anything with their story anymore.

    8. I didn't have a character when I got my first doll. Which bothered me a long when while I had him. I didn't want him in normal cloths so I had to make him a story and figure out what cloths I wanted him in. Which is my mistake now. For now I have created a world so big that there are now like.. 25 more dolls I want to have because they all would fit within it. Curse you imagination!

    9. In the beginning I had tons of time on my hands and so my dolls helped fuel my writing inspiration. Then as I got busy again; less and less of my focus could be spent on writing. I have a core group that has a story line. The rest of my collection is a mix of "just pretty" and "pending character study and story development."

    10. To me, it gives my doll a new level of personality and realism. It helps me to better connect with my girl :3nodding:

    11. Having a story gives more personalization and connection to me and its fun to potray it with their fashion and photos. Plus its fun to make ocs have a dolly form.

    12. I don't think one way is better than another. Personally I'll use any excuse to come up with a story :thumbup every character I play in an RPG I make up a detailed backstory and motivations for them.

    13. For me it is the other way around. The stories came first, and the dolls are merely three dimensional embodiments of the characters. I suppose that's why, if I find a doll that fits the character better, I'll sell off the old doll without a backward glance.

    14. I find it impossible to dress and choose wigs and eyes for a doll without a character and a story. I just wouldn't know what to do with the doll. But once there is a character, there's a lot of inspiration and of course the need for friends and family. This way, it's more clear what the dolls need and it's more possible to avoid impulse buys, especially in clothes and wigs.

    15. For me, the stories come with the dolls. When I look at them, the stories just flows into my mind and their personalities are born. It also makes things more fun in terms of photo stories and clothes, especially when you have more than one doll and their stories intertwine.

    16. my dolls don't have any formal written stories, but they do all have names and personalities that are born when they get their faceups/wigs and come "alive" for me. this helps me take better photos as each one acts in ways that fits that character.

    17. I like to make up stories so I do occasionally imagine stories for my dolls. But it's nothing set in stone. Sometimes I even forget them and come up with a new story. I've actually never had a character in mind when shopping for a doll but I am drawn to sculpts that remind me of people I know.

    18. Dolls are an art/creativity medium for me. I didn't have an existing OC or world that I wanted to shell into a doll, but the hobby made me realize I love creating characters and stories. For my first couple dolls, the story has developed as I have customized them, but now I have another story and characters that I'm planning to turn into dolls ^-^

    19. The stories just kind of formed as concepts for my dolls. If a story starts building after I see a sculpt, I'm pretty much gonna buy that doll. It's part of the connection for me--I don't think I could have a doll whose only function is to sit there and look pretty and not exist as some sort of character, it'd get boring pretty quickly.

    20. I feel like a dolls story can really help complete them. I cant see myself buying a doll without having a character and story to go along with them.
