Will that "One Detail" Prevent you from Buying?

Dec 22, 2010

    1. Profiles. I love noses but if they look wrong from the side, I just can't do it, I just can't get over it. I love Supia Roda, but I don't like her profile so I kinda fell out of love enough to take her off my wishlist.

    2. I had details preventing me from buying dolls before. It usually happens because the dolls are beautiful, and I find hem tobe perfect for me, until I find that they have an open mouth and show teeth .-.
I really dislike teeth on dolls (except for fantasy teeth, like vampires, beast types, etc.). I don't know why.
I also don't mean to say that I find these dolls ugly - many of them are beautiful, but I certainly would not feel like buying one of them.

Since these dolls cost a lot of money, if I find a detail on a body or sculpt which I dislike, I will not buy the doll. I will only spend my money on a doll that I love entirely, which includes their every detail.

    3. For me it is the mouth part of the sculpt. I have seen dolls I like, but then see the mouths/lips and it makes me not like the sculpt, also with what was said above with the profiles. Have seen some amazing dolls from the front, but then see the side view and don't like how it looks from the side.

    4. I have to say yes only because sometimes the dolls noses and regular ears can poke out too far, and that's a deal breaker for me. :(

    5. Yes, I think would most would stop me from purchasing a doll is the body. I want it to function as well as be visually pleasing.

    6. other than having to like the face sculpt and the asthetic of the body I really have this thing about the hands. The hands NEED to be how I fit just right. If not I will not consider buying, I know I can always Hybrid but I really dont want to have to go throught the trouble of finding resin matches...

    7. My pet peeve is knees. I know the double jointed type are good for posing but i really don't like the really square look some of them have.

    8. No! As long as you can mod the doll or make it a hybrid. ^^

    9. Eyes/eye holes that are too large for the head, IMO.

Volks SD10s don't appeal to me because I think the eyes are too far out of proportion with the rest of the head. I've found smaller eyes like Iplehouse has to be more appealing.

    10. I don't want to do any facial mods or have anything but default face-ups, so I have to consider the sculpts I buy very carefully. I'm fine with features that I don't like from certain angles (as long as those angles are obscure ones like "from behind and slightly underneath" and not like "from the front" or "in direct profile"), since I can just avoid photographing my dolls from those angles. I draw the line at features I don't like at all (for example, I've skipped many male dolls I'd otherwise have bought because their chins are too square or their lips are disproportionately big).

I think, for me personally, there's no such thing as "I like this face except for X", there's only "I would like this face, except X makes me not like it".

    11. This really depends on what the one little detail is. There was an Iple that I wanted to buy, but the one little detail is that the owner sprayed her with UV cut and I don't quite know, since I'm fairly new, if I would have run into problems with that. Too bad because the doll is really pretty.

I also agree about the smaller eyes, I like them better.

    12. The lips. I'm not a huge fan of smiley sculpts. I like it to be as neutral as possible.

    13. Depending on what that 'one detail' is it most certainly will 80-90% of the time.

    14. I almost let a small detail stop me from buying a doll that I couldn't ever live without. He was a doll that I never had any interest in because of the sculpting around his mouth. He has those little holes! You know what I'm talking about right? Those sculpted holes. I hate those. I just knew I would never own him. However, once I saw owner pictures of this doll with a custom face-up I knew it could be worked around. I fell for him instantly and bought him right away. While I was waiting I was still worried about the holes. He was coming blank so I would be able to see them in all their glory. I was really scared that I had made a mistake, but I would just look up more pictures to reassure myself. When I opened his box and saw his face, I realized how silly I had been. The holes are really small. They were exaggerated buy being painted in. With a good face up you won't even notice them. That's why I fell for him when I saw the pictures of him with a custom face up. I was shocked. I really thought I was looking at a different doll.

    15. For me it's very often the nose and the proportions. Lately I have had to take two sculpts away from my wishlist, after seeing their profiles and the horrible state of their noses >___> Made me wonder if the companies deliberately left profile pictures out, because of the dreaded state of potato nose and whatnot. Also, proportions. I love looking at anime and reading manga, but when you apply their features to realistic looking sculpts... it creeps me out >_> For me, having dolls and making them look as realistic as I possibly can, it doesn't work out x) And, while on the subject of proportions - it's also the proportion between head and body (or legs to torso, or hands to arms, or dingdong to the rest of the body when male, or the breast in the case of girl). It freaks me out, and it definitely makes me look elsewhere after dolls to claim as my own x)

    16. I can't afford the Luts satyros boy sculpt, and the space between his lips and nose is a bit too wide. I make that detail huge in my head, so I feel better about not getting him. My first doll has dreaming eyes, which could be opened more, but I decided to keep him intact and I'm glad I did. I love him flaws and all.

    17. I'm not a fan of dolls with big lips or small eyes. I enjoy larger eyed, tiny mouthed dolls.

    18. Depends on the detail? xP Sometimes it's a detail easy to work around or compensate for, sometimes it might be a deal breaker...

    19. I won't buy a doll if it is something that can't be changed. Like if there is no skin colour available that I like I won't get the doll, a face-up I don't like won't keep me from buying a doll.

    20. Has one detail prevented you from buying/bonding with your otherwise perfect doll?

Yes...I less prefer a mold with extreme expression like big smile, open mouth wide, etc and I don't buy doll with scar or too much fantasy part too because they are difficult to deal and fit to my character.

Should you avoid buying if you feel this way?

98% Yes because I don't want to spend money for a doll which I less like and feel uneasy when they are with me. I don't plan to sell dolls I bought/adopted, so it may make me more regret if I choose them. And the rest 2% is for exceptional case which I haven't experienced before ;)
