Would anyone buy a talking doll?

Jan 10, 2009

    1. no D: but only because for some reason talking dolls have always freaked me out as a child. i'm not sure why, i guess i just prefer for them to be silent. i guess i'd rather imagine hearing my doll's voice in my head instead of just some robot-y sounding voice.

    2. Is that a doll? Maybe it's more like a robot!!! I dont like to talk in this way..... Buy a talking doll is noisy, I just like looking at them and than took pictures = =||||

    3. this cracked me up. Especially "Haha, I'm almost as tall as you"

I don't know if I'd want a talking doll, but like a lot of others have said I think it would depend on the quality of the voice and how much/what it says.

    4. I dunno, i love the idea, but depends on each person, i mean, it breaks the fantasy of all the environment that you create for your character, like voice for example.

    5. sounds interesting i'd like to see/hear that :3

    6. :lol:This is really funny!!!

No, I don't want talking doll. When I was little, long ago, there were big talking, walker dolls. I never had one because my mom didn't like them. The audio mechanism fails easily and the dolls were heavy. The voice sounded mechanical and sentences are limited. :|

hihi, I talk to my dolls all the time and they talk back. :) You would not want to know what one of my boys said when I tried to find him a girl friend. I've given up!

    7. Wow thats a really cool idea, would you record the voice yourself or get someone else to do it? A talking BJD would be awesome, it would have to be a really high quality recording but i'd definitely be intrested in that. The thought reminds me of that film Small Soldiers.

    8. I think the idea sounds fascinating....but personally, it'd depend on the doll itself for me. I wouldn't mind Lao Shan or Amalthea chirping phrases, because they're the polite and demure type. Setsuri....barely speaks anyway, and Olivers a mute, so getting any sort of voicebox thing for them would be kinda pointless. XD Matsuri's fashion tip advice would be fun for a while, but after a while I'd probably be like HOW DO I MAKE YOU STFU.
And Dyland....hooooo boy. He's enough of a brat WITHOUT being able to actually yell at me IRL about why don't I buy him more nice things and why is he on a shelf and WHY IS HE IN RED LACE WHEN HE SPECIFICALLY DEMANDED BLACK, WHAT KIND OF CHEAP FLOOZY DO I TAKE HIM FOR.

    9. That would be intresting, but i dout i would like that because of the aesthetics

    10. Oh no. No no. I do not like talking things. I do not even like talking cell phones.

    11. No, I wouldn't want a talking doll. It probably wouldn't match my character's voice anyway, but even if it did, I don't know if I would feel comfortable with my BJDs talking :sweat

    12. i agree, if it was like chobits that would be awesome! i think i would rather have a larger vocabulary and only be able to talk the owner

    13. I would love to have a talking doll. I think it would be so cool to converse with a doll.

    14. I would get one, only if you could record what you want it to say. It would be funny if it had one of those touch here buttons and the doll says: don't touch me! or hands off!

    15. Idk it would fall too quickly into Furby territory for me. Furbys quickly got very disturbing... :(

    16. I actually really liked my furby baby as a kid  I guess to each their own haha.

A talking doll wouldn't interest me though. I think it'd freak me out to be honest. But that's just me.

    17. If the talking doll has software like Apple's Siri, maybe it could provide some interesting interaction and do simple tasks. Worth a shot :)

    18. I'm not sure, depend on what the doll will say and such. If it talking similar to a baby doll speech like 'I'm hungry' or 'I'm sleepy', probably not since it will be creepy for me at night.
However, if it the similar to Danny Choo Smart Doll (off-topic doll, pretty sure since it's vinyl), who tell us the time right now or email coming, etc, with a cute anime-like voice, probably yes. It's so cute to have my doll saying like 'There a new email in your inbox~' :)

    19. I... don't think I would. I've seen way too many horror movies and still remember my cousin's Furby shorting out in the middle of the night. A creepy disembodied voice slurring out 'Plaaaaay with meeeee' ended up in me knocking over our shelf and hockey-shooting it out of our door with a broom handle.

So no. No, I'll keep my dolls silent and judgmental of me.

    20. Lol, while this is cool, I don't think I'd get it done. Tho I will admit, I'd love to have my Honeybee programmed to play a song if prompted ^^ now THAT I would be willing to pay for lol. I already feel like my dolls answer me in their own way (I had one dolls eyes fall out after asking myself out loud if I should try other eyes in it XD). I love the thought and had talking dolls as a kid, tho they were nothing fancy, but I liked them lol.
