1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you buy a doll without a COA?

Sep 6, 2023

    1. My approach is the following: whatever "drawback" the doll has: staining, chipping, missing, broke parts... and No CoA - should lower its price accordingly. These days I don't resell and buy dolls at the same pace as I used to (up to 10 per year lol down to 1), but still, I don't understand why I should just trust some written promises while people get scammed time and again.

Right now I am "stuck" with one doll head that has no documentation but the company faceup which I can't wipe off because it's the only proof. However, I find it boring. So I feel stuck. that said, I got it at a decent price and I love it anyway. I trust (and like) the seller, so I never had any doubts about its legitimacy. Still... the feeling is there, so I just bought a second head for this character to swap them - one head with my own faceup, the other with the 'boring' one.

And yes, I did write to the company... got a response, nothing of any help.

    2. I bought one without a coa because it was made before the company provided them but mostly I’m only interested in newer dolls that have them. There are other ways to verify authenticity but I personally would not buy another doll that does not have a coa.

    3. As long as there's a way to authenticate the doll, like a headplate I wouldn't mind.

    4. I would buy a doll without a COA, but only if it's clearly not recasted and isn't a popularly recasted sculpt. That's the short, concise answer.
I've lost a COA before, it happens. They're little, breakable pieces of paper usually. I try to be understanding, and most owners usually have a diff way of confirming the doll is legit that isn't the COA if needed.

    5. I've purchased dolls without CoA's. It's not a huge deal to me although I do prefer to have one (or a photocopy of it if possible). Some of my dolls are of an age where CoA's weren't a thing.

The one that irritates me the most in my collection is my Soom ID51 Gluino. I bought him directly from Soom as an Xmas kit. Because he was a "kit", he was sent unstrung in a plain brown box (which I knew would be the case). There was a booklet for how to put him together but no CoA. I thought they'd forgotten his CoA and contacted them about it and they said they didn't send CoA's when a doll was purchased as a kit even though I bought directly from Soom. I didn't think to screenshot my order and when Soom updated their site, all the old order info was lost.

    6. No, unless it's like a Resinsoul or Bobobie, there aren't fakes of these dolls, and I don't think they come with a CoA to begin with.

I just don't trust some random persons word that the doll is legit. A CoA is a must have, and the box is a bonus, but not a deal breaker. I won't buy a doll with only a copy of the CoA either - I always would wonder how many other people also got a copy of that CoA along with a doll?

I have also gotten dolls directly from a certain dealer a few times without CoA, when I asked they pointed out I had the receipt from them and that was good enough (It's not for me.) also, they refused to contact the companies about it... needless to say, I do not purchase dolls from that shop anymore. The first time should have been warning enough, but I was stupid and gave them more chances. I don't think the dolls are fakes, but the CoA is important enough for me to stop using a seller that somehow doesn't put them into the box, possibly because they used the pictures from the CoA on their website. Also, when contacting the seller they think it's not important enough to do anything about, and then I have to keep the receipts in place of the CoA.
