1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you buy a second hand doll for same price as a new one?

Jul 3, 2013

    1. I think it depends on the doll, how old it is, how worn out it is.. If the doll has chipping or is broken somewhere.
If the doll is brand new and the buy is having "buyers remorse" as in they changed their mind after purchase, then I think I would still buy it secondhand off of that person.

if its even slightly cracked/scratched, modded or even yellowing, then I would hope for a price drop.

    2. 1. Only if the doll was no longer available through the company. That's why used limited time Soom dolls are so expensive :(

    3. For me, it depends very much on the doll, the likelihood of rerelease, and how close it comes to personal grail status. In a couple of cases, I'd be willing to pay more than the original sales price, because the doll is super rare, and I missed out on it the first time or (in one case) stupidly sold it. In the end it's all about comparing how much you want a doll to its current and projected future market value. That sounds a bit more cut and dried than the reality, however, because it's hard to quantify desire. :)

    4. If the doll is practically new and comes with everything I have no issues buying it at the retail price. If anything I'm still saving money, because I either get shipping free or shipping is minuscule compared to buying from the company directly.

    5. If the doll is in mint condition and not available through the company anymore then yes I would buy it for the same price.

    6. It depends on the doll.

A limited or discontinued doll that is no longer available? Most likely. Unless the doll has visible yellowing or damage, then I might look for a slightly higher priced one, but stillin good condition.

As for regular dolls? So long as there is no yellowing, stains, or damage, I don't see why not. Especially if the doll is as good as new and comes with a faceup. I won't have to deal with insane shipping prices or long wait times.

    7. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?
If it was just as beautiful, taken care of, and loved. Of course! People put a lot of effort and time into their dolls. Just because they're not the original artist doesn't mean they shouldn't be appreciated.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?
If it was in good condition. Right under or at the original price. Hell if they did a lovely face up themselves or including clothing I wouldn't mind spending more.

    8. I think it depends on the doll since some people sell second hand rare dolls for twice the price they first bought them for. I personally would not buy a second hand doll just out of fear of damage or getting a really bad doll. I tend to also like the three to four month wait since it gives me time to buy clothing.

    9. I wouldn't buy a used doll for the same price as a new one even if it came with an outfit or some extra stuff. Mostly because whenever I shop for a secondhand doll I'm looking for a deal. I could buy the clothes or extras myself. For the second question, again I'm looking for deal when I buy second hand so it would it would have to be at least $50-100 cheaper used.

    10. It depends! If it's a limited, I think that's fair, as long as it's not in poor condition. Or if I don't have to pay as much for shipping. If it's in bad shape, or if it's easily accessible, then I wouldn't.

    11. Depends on the doll, and if there's any extras. I bought my Pukipuki Cupid for the same price he was on Fairyland's website, but he was also a sold out fullset and came with extras. This was when Fairyland temporarily stopped pukipuki orders, so that was a factor in me buying him too.

    12. For me, it depends. Buying a well cared for second-hand doll could save you on Shipping costs and wait time depending on where the owner lives in relation to you. There's also the matter of whether the doll is limited/discontinued, or if it's available from the company.

If it's a readily available sculpt, I will more likely buy it from the company, even if Imight have to wait longer. If it's a limited or discontinued and it was well taken care of, I would definitely pay the retail price for it.

    13. It sorta depends if the seller shows good pictures and, how old the doll is, how much yellowing has occurred and what price they are asking for. Where they are located too can be a big factor for me. with tat said I have in the past purchased 2nd hand dolls and am very happy with the results and the dolls.

    14. I think it depends...If the doll is not available on the company's website, then I think it's fine to buy/sell it at the same price. Same if the second-hand doll is like brand new, and if the seller doesn't add the shipping price + custom tax on the price of a doll.

    15. I think for me, the deciding factor is really about what goodies they come with! Even if it was a basic, non-limited doll, I might be tempted to get a used one if it came with an outfit I liked rather than buy from the company and wait for a nude doll for the same price. As long as it comes with the COA and all it's company parts I don't think I would be that bothered.

Limited dolls are a different story of course, as being able to find it at all might be worth the price!

    16. Buying a second hand doll for the same price as a new one.. if the doll is discontinued then absolutely. If the doll is readily available to buy new, it’s a hard sell for me unless the doll comes with lots of bonuses or if it comes with a truly wonderful unique faceup.

    17. Even if it had its box and CoA, how old it is would be a huge factor, I'd only buy one the same price as an absolute last resort.

    18. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?
Depending on the doll, yes. There are some limited dolls that paying twice the original price would be considered a good deal so paying the original price would be great.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?

If it was a standard, that is still available from the company, then I would like some sort of discount but if it was in good condition then I wouldn't mind paying 80% of the price. If it was a limited or otherwise unable-from-the-company doll then I wouldn't think twice about paying the complete original price.
But I'm just generalizing here and would also consider how much I want the doll if I was actually thinking about purchasing it.

    19. 1. No. Dolls depreciate with each exchange of hands they go through. There's the issue of yellowing, damage, and the previous owner customizing it in a way you don't like.
      2. I'd say the second-hand doll would have to be discounted at least 10% from the original cost. Shipping would have to be cheaper and faster than buying the doll new.

    20. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?

In most cases, no, I would not. But if I knew someone is selling a new doll they just bought from a company and for some reason they don't like to keep it, I don't see why I wouldn't buy it for the same price as a new one. If a first owner has only opened the doll box and maybe took it out for a few hours (nad nothing terrible happens to doll in that time), it's basically a new doll and worth for the same in my opinion. If there is any yellowing or damage I most propably would not pay a full price. It's hard to say if I'd buy a limited edition doll or a discontinued doll for the same or higher price than it was sold from a company. It'd depend on the condition of the doll, how much I wanted the doll and how much I have money at that time.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?

It really depends on the doll, it's exact condition, do I want to wait a new one for months or buy a used one and get it much faster, is there a possibilty to buy it straight from a company and the amount of money I have at that moment. Sellers have a right to ask any price from their dolls and if I find that price reasonable, I'll buy the doll and if not, I'll skip it.
