1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you buy a second hand doll for same price as a new one?

Jul 3, 2013

    1. Only if the doll is no longer available or has the most amazing custom faceup.
Otherwise I prefer to buy directly from the company and collect reward points and have all my orders infos in my account.

    2. 1. Only if it were a limited doll. If it's a doll still around, I'd expect a reduction in price otherwise I'd get it new.

      2. If it were a limited doll, it would have to be in prime exact condition. No mods. Faceups are fine, as I'd just wipe it off (I'm not paying for it, again, unless it's better than the factory faceup) I'm not paying for someone's homemade clothes unless they're better than the limited doll's outfit.

    3. You know, hand-made clothes are very often much better quality than the factory outfits :( Just saying. MY hand-sewn ones certainly are LOL

    4. Absolutely.

If the doll were in good condition, why not? That saves me the headache & waiting period of ordering new from the company... but again, it would have to be in pretty great condition & include the original box.

    5. I imagine they would be, thinking about it. I do fear that I pay extra for a limited outfit and it would feel cheap. (I've never handled factory clothes before, so I have no idea how they tend to be)

    6. I look at these dolls as art - which is why the whole 'second hand' or 'used' labels really mean nothing to me. Now, damage, staining, yellowing - THAT's something I pay attention to. Also there are doll companies that you can get points from when you get a doll straight from them. So it depends. Volks, well, so often buying from another person is the only way to GET the doll. Dollshe - if it cuts the shipping down & the wait time from a year to a month I'll do it. Actually DID get my Saint that way.

    7. Only if it is unavailable from the company and in great condition. But, also maybe if I really wanted it *fast* and ordered it secondhand so I wouldn't have to wait for it to be manufactured.
The price I would pay secondhand is dependent, as other people said, on a lot of factors! I have some dolls on my wishlist that aren't available at the companies anymore, so those I would probably pay the original price for.

    8. If it were limited or had a special face up or was in good condition I could see myself getting a second hand doll for around the same price or even more than the original if I wanted one bad enough aha

    9. I personally wouldn't spend the same amount on a second hand doll that wasn't limited I would rather wait for new, however I have seriously considered paying 50% more for limited and discontinued dolls that are grails for me even when the price was very very high.
