1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you buy a second hand doll for same price as a new one?

Jul 3, 2013

    1. Depends on the wait time of the company (some company take up to 6 months) but i'm not willing to pay more than the company offers the doll. Unless it is a limited edition or discontinued sculpt.

    2. It depends on condition of a doll. If item is absolutely new, I can buy it even a bit more expensive. But I don't see any reason to buy old and played doll for new doll price. Politics of some sellers in the hobby sometimes is really weird :-)

    3. It would depend on the doll such as the condition of it and whether it was limited. If it was a very sought after one that I wanted desperately I may be prepared to pay slightly more than it's original price but only if it was in a nearly new condition.

    4. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?
It depends on how desperately I want the doll and the condition. Also, I wouldn't buy if it came from a smoking household because of my asthma and damage to the doll.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?

Good condition or perfect condition? I'd probably pay the same amount for perfect condition, and maybe for good condition.

    5. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?

Limited edition and no longer being made? Possibly. If it was a grail doll (I don't have a grail yet) or something I really want, I would likely be willing. But I would never pay list price for a secondhand doll when I could get a brand new one for the same price.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?

It depends on how old the doll is and what qualifies as "good" condition. I would never buy a doll exposed to smoke. I would only consider buying a doll from a seller who lives with pets if it was limited edition and no longer being sold by the company.

IMO, 5% minimum discount from the company's list price (non LE), and a higher percentage depending on the age/condition of the doll. I don't have access to the marketplace yet (post count), but from what I gather, a lot of people sell close to the manufacturer's price? I probably wouldn't be shopping for dolls there often in that case. If you want me to purchase something secondhand, you have to make it worth my while.

I would be willing to pay more for limited edition sculpts no longer in production, within reason. (IE: I'm not paying $2,000 USD for a doll that originally sold for $550 USD. No chance. $800? Possibly, if I really want it.)

    6. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?

No, I wouldn't unless it was a doll I really loved that was good condition and no longer available new.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?

I would want at least 50 off the original price unless it was a perfectly new current year doll that had just been bought. Again discontinued dolls are a different story.

    7. Yes, if there was a reason to - if the company stopped making them, of course, or if the company was known to have problematic customer service, or even if I just really liked the face up on the particular doll.

It depends. If it was a standard, available doll I wouldn't expect to pay above retail even factoring in the convenience. If the doll wasn't available anymore I'd be willing to pay more.

    8. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?

No. New Is new and secondhand/preowned is secondhand/preowned.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?

Not very close . My view is there always are better sculpts and better bodies round the corner. Consequently a secondhand/preowned doll is only a good buy if it does not stop me buying these new sculpts and these new bodies. And I have no problem with waiting...

    9. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?
Maybe, if I really want to get it fast, and if that's a sold out mold.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?
I think is ok to be 100% the seem, because mostly you need to wait a month for a doll, but secondhand doll you just need to wait for shipping, time costs.

    10. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?
If the doll was still available, probably not unless the secondhand doll had an amazing faceup or came with extras.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?
Oh I'd pay the full price. And I have. Limited editions and grail doll.

    11. For me, no I wouldn't buy it for the same price, that seems silly, when I can just buy a new one.
It would have to be a decent amount to make me buy a second hand one, otherwise I would just spend the little extra for a new one.

I don't really see why people would pay for the second hand one, unless it was different from the new, or that you couldn't find it anymore, but then the price would be higher for that.

    12. If I really wanted it and I could get it faster than from the manufacturer then yes I would.

    13. 1. No, I would not.
      2. If it was in great condition, I would probably spend anywhere below $25 of the original price.

    14. It depends. If it is relatively new then I would buy it used so I wouldn't have to wait. But if its a older than one from the company then definitely not. Its wouldn't be worth it to me.

    15. 1. Only if the doll was sold out from the company. I'd rather wait for a new doll than pay the original price for a used one.

      3. Pretty close. As long as it's at least like 30 dollars cheaper.

Of course I'd make an exception to a limited doll.

    16. I would only buy the doll if the company didn't sell it anymore. Or if shipping would be cheaper, and/or it has a faceup that is different but I love more than the default from the company. That only happened once lol. XD

    17. Depends on the doll, I'd say. A Volks, e.g., even an old one, I would have no problem buying it for the original price even if it were an old doll, since I know Volks dolls age beautifully. Of course if it were damaged, I'd expect it to be cheaper than original price. I'd pay more for a doll if it came with extras (wig, eyes, clothes) or with a beautiful face-up (especially a face-up by a well-known face-up artist - I know how much those cost and I'd definitely be willing to pay extra for it).

Also, some dolls are just more difficult to find than others because they're rarer. E.g. you'll have to look longer to find a Volks Garnet head than a Minifee Breakaway Scar head so I'd be willing to pay more for a doll that's rarer. All within reason, of course, I'm not Croesus, but I've noticed that my "absolute price limits" have gone up quite a bit since I started in the hobby (meaning that where I once had a limit of "I won't pay more than 200 USD at the most for a doll head", I'll pay quite a bit more for a doll head now when I really, really want it).

    18. 1. Would you buy a secondhand/preowned doll for the same price as a new one for the exact same doll?
when I really want the Doll and it is limited and in a good condition yes I would buy a second hand Doll for the same price.

      2. How close to the original price would you spend on a secondhand/preowned doll if it was in good condition?
      very close.

    19. I think it really depends on the situation. If the doll is in newer condition or has special offers I probably would. If it's older or a common sculpt then no. I'd rather just buy it new at that point. I'm not sure yet how high I'd be willing to go!

    20. Depends...I am looking, too if the company still has the doll...how the condition is...giving extras...and yeah.
So I agree with the othe ones who posted here before.
