1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you buy damaged dolls from the company?

Mar 6, 2013

    1. This 100% :3
I'd happily pay less for a body with a few minor aesthetic flaws, that didn't impair anything structurally or could be hidden with clothing; as long as they were fully disclosed and the body was priced accordingly. I'm not really into heavy-modding, and I wouldn't buy a doll that needed a lot of fixing up. To me, Grail dolls have to be in near-perfect condition.

    2. As most have said, it would depend on the damage. And having a structurally sound doll with a working jointing structure would be the most important. I haven't even dipped a toe in modding or face-ups, so anything more than maybe some marbling (could be birthmarks) or dings/nicks (could be scars) is too much for me at this point. But the question and opportunity is compelling. Human's aren't perfect, so it would be interesting to see the modifications that would come out of these imperfect dolls. It would be a nice opportunity if the companies held a sale like this maybe once year or something.

    3. If it's much cheaper I'd probably buy it :)
      Well I'd prefer the damage to be done to the body so I can get her a new body. >_<;

    4. I'm with the modders on this one :) If it were just a sculpt I liked without any "fixed" character I wouldn't even mind if something broke, I'd just put it in the backstory (say a dysfunctional knee joint or a limb broken beyond repair would lead to a character with a disability) ... actually, I really like the idea of an "imperfect" doll. I could also see myself go full-on Shadowrun on a doll with surface damage, e.g. sculpting cyber parts to hide bubbles. :) That would actually be a really fun challenge.

    5. I think that I wouldn't mind buying it just to try out modding a doll. I never done that and so I would rather get a doll with a few damages than a new one to do my first modding.
But if I wanted it for a collection, then I wouldn't buy a damaged one.

    6. I would not buy a damaged doll from the company, because I am not interested in doing repair work.

    7. This. Any savings on the price would be lost paying a modder to fix the problem. I'd rather just buy the new doll outright.

    8. I would jump all over that! i have.. a odd attraction to things that are "not perfect" i collect, odd things and things people don't want ( no not hoarder or anything) As long as the doll is structurally sound, and not harm my daughters health... i would happily pick up a "damaged" doll :)

    9. It would really depend on the damage. Small chips and such I wouldn't mind, but I don't have the time to take on a really badly damaged doll and attempt to repair it.

    10. This...
For mod practice and general tinkering "spare parts" would be great, but they'd need to be cured completely and not *so* damaged that they would be unusable.

    11. I would get one if it could be fixed up or the damages weren't that bad :)

    12. I guess almost everyone else is saying this, but it would really depend on just how damaged it was and how much of a discount was being given. Small imperfections in an area that will be hidden anyway (e.g. on the head cap or the torso) and that don't make the doll less sturdy or interfere with the functioning of doll parts would be fine. But something noticeable (e.g. a massive bubble in the face) or something that compromised the doll wouldn't be worthwhile for me.

    13. I would certainly consider it if they were discounted enough. I have a sort of "rescue" mentality about messed up things so they'd be right up my alley.

    14. Yes, if it was cheaper than usual! I think it would be a good time to practice and try out some modding. Eh, what harm can you do to an already damaged doll?

    15. Definitely!!! Like Pugglenaut said, what more damage can I do to it if I decide to try my hand at modding it? I mean, I could try faceups, tattoos, piercings, scars, cuts, stitches, etc. without worrying about hurting one of my beloved dolls. Then, if I got really good by practicing on the damaged doll, I wouldn't mind modding my other dollies :)

    16. If the discount was good and the doll was safe...absolutely! Because...because....I think it would amuse me! I wouldn't fix it. I'd like to have a whole collection of misfit dolls. The more bizarre the defect the better, as long as their structural integrity was sound enough that it wouldn't shatter and send shrapnel into my eye or anything (because eye shrapnel often offends).

    17. I would buy one and use that doll for pactice face-ups.

    18. I'd probably pass. I'm not experienced enough to tell the difference between casting flaws that are just superficial and ones that could cause breakage or worsen over time.

    19. I would buy all the hideously deformed dolls and love them as much as my other dolls. I wouldn't try to "fix" them or make them look "better". They would be my beautiful children.

God I wish some company would sell weird deformed dolls.

    20. Well there was a point in my life that I wanted a yellowing 1/3 you doll. Then I thought about how much I hate it when doll skins yellow, and how I was going to fix it. So I told myself I will get a brand new one.
