1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you buy damaged dolls from the company?

Mar 6, 2013

    1. I would buy one for sure cause I would love to try modding a doll but on a new one I am very hesitant to try any mods. But if its cheap enough then yes I would buy one for sure.

    2. Oh, definitely. I'm a sucker for a bargain. ;)

    3. A year or so ago, I would have said "Yes, definitely!"

Now, after I've dealt with restoration of a damaged doll, my answer is "Maybe, it depends." I'd want to know what kind of damage it was, what the discount would be, and how much effort it would be to repair or mod to a usable state.

For instance, if it's a marbled or uneven color? That's totally fine, I can either mask that with a body blushing, or come up with an interesting painted design to integrate it. Bubbles are a maybe, depending on what they look like. Cracks, I might say no, because I'd rather spend the effort to fix that on one of my major mod projects. I wouldn't rule it out, but I've experienced now how much work it can be to get a rough doll looking good, and I'm not as excited to do it again as I thought I might be. :sweat

    4. It depends on the kind of damage and how much they're asking for it.

for exemple, iplehouse sometimes sells damaged dolls. A while ago there was an ebony Rexy with air bubbles on her head and many sanding spots (mostly on her legs).
for any reduced-priced doll, a few air bubbles anywhere but the face, ears, feet and hands would be OK with me.
But discoloration and scratches on a dark skin doll; eehhh not so much.
Though her starting price was $200 so I definitely would have considered that even with the colour problem, but she ended up being a bit over $500 so meh.

    5. Depends on the damage. If it looks like something I could work with and maybe repair myself then yes. As long as it's presentable and not missing parts.

    6. If offered at the right price, I would love this! Here are some pros I can think of:

-good price practice dolls for new modders to learn with
-good value for those with existing mod talent to fix up
-good price bodies for seamstresses who just need them for fitting clothes
-good price dolls for people who are willing to sacrifice perfection for a good deal - possibly can help cut down on recast

obviously seconds should not be dangerous from chipping or off gassing, weeping, etc, but if it's all cosmetic, absolutely!

    7. I probably would, depending on the number of flaws and how severe they are!

    8. I guess, it depends how much it is and which kind of damage. If the damage weren't so bad like just bubbles on it or scratch, I might consider to buy. But a doll with missing fingers, etc..."No" is the answer because I'm not good at repairing nor have much time to find missing parts from markets. :D

    9. I would, if the damage will be described.

    10. I'd have no problem giving a damaged gal a good home if the price was reasonable!

    11. Having seen some failed casting attempts, I definitely wouldn't. I doubt the companies would be straightforward enough with each of the flaws. I bet they'd be like "slightly flawed doll" and in the pictures you only see some bubbles and when you get the one you bought it's completely deformed, or smth like that. So many things that can go wrong in the casting process!

    12. It depends on how bad it is and where on the body it is.. If it's some place that's not that visible I'd be okay with it. And it also depends on how much it would be, because if it's too expensive I'd rather buy a 2nd hand doll with a few stains or chips. :)

    13. I actually requested some incomplete castings for one of my projects, and the caster was happy to make them for me. For the same reason, i.e. my projects, yes I would buy a cheaper damaged doll, as messing up something that is pristine is... painful.

    14. I would like to have the option, but like most people have said that depends on the damage and the discount applied as a result :)

    15. Sure! Though it would depend on the type of damage and the discount offered. But I would have no problem buying a doll with scratches, dents, or bubbles at a reduced price.

    16. It depends on how bad the damage is and what the cost is :3
I'm not going to pay out the bazooga for a broken doll.
If it was half off with little damage, I'd more than likely buy the doll.

    17. Soom sends defective parts all the time. Sometime they try to fix it but not always which is sad because they are so expensive.

    18. You're scaring me now. :(

    19. I bought a lot of Soom dolls, and there were defective parts sent here and there. But I still buy from soom. Right now I have three dolls on order even though they increased prices (otherwise I would have more dolls on pre-order). So it's not anything I can't live with. If you push hard enough I think soom would try to fix things with the defective parts.

So yeah, I would buy a damaged doll. Intentionally if there cost savings.

    20. I will definitely buy a defective doll if it's my grail. I would still love the doll no matter what. I think it's more of the Need of getting the doll than the want of getting a perfect sculpt. If it is a grail doll then I would treasure it whether it is damaged or not.
