Would you, could you give away a doll?

May 2, 2012

    1. I just bought a doll for my bestie! She just became interested in dolls and was looking for one who looked like a certain celeb :) I saw it and snatched it right up for her! Of course I would do it for someone. Cuz I like to share my hobby with others & love giving gifts! :D I only wish Icould share more!
I don't know if I could give away my own doll, unless I never bonded with it. Cuz my dolls have a special purpose for me ^^

    2. I wouldn't give one of my dolls away but I wouldn't mind buying a doll for a friend that they liked.

    3. I've been thinking about what my family would do with my dolls I'd something should happen to me. I'd want them to give them away to people who struggle and have to save for along time before they can buy a doll. Or who have only one doll but would love to have more. That would make me feel great.

    4. I did that for my best friend too. But that's different than giving away a doll I already own.
I bought this doll specifically for her as a birthday gift because I knew how much she wanted to start collecting dolls, and was not brave enough to buy her first doll herself.

If I owned a doll that I had stopped loving, and knew that my friend really wanted it, I could give it away. But it would not be to just anyone. It would have to go to someone I knew would love it.

    5. I have thought of giving a couple of them away. A couple that I bought before I knew much about them and I'm not entirely sure they are legit. In short I think I got ripped off as I bought them believing they were the real thing. I'm not sure what I'll do yet. I may use them for learning how to restring, do faceups, or modding. I may sell them much cheaper than I bought them with full disclosure they may not be legit. Whatever I decide, I promise you they will not be making an appearance on DOA.

    6. I always receive free BJDs because of where I work and have thought of giving a few away for free. I don't need the money and maybe someone can be happy with some. I even have blank popular dolls just stored away in a closet of my office. I don't know what to do with some of them. I have a few doubles and is starting to make me wonder what to do. I wouldn't sell them because that would waste my time or seems tedious. Maybe I will meet friend that would want some BJDs. I have recently just given a Venitu for free to a person that I dragged into the hobby. I could probably convince her to have the second one or it is sad just sitting in a box. Too many dolls! Help! LOL......eh, it's not so funny. Just troublesome. :(

    7. At this moment im in great doubts if i did the right thing. What I want to do is be an awesome friend, but it might be seen differently by the reciever.

I have had a dollfriend online for the past couple of years we met several times on doll meets and also talk about the problems in our life and our childeren etc. I really appriciate her a lot and she has done several awesome commision works for me, undercharging me a lot or sometimes even for free. I have wanted to buy her a gift for quite some time now.

I know she wanted to order a certain ooak doll from an artist, but it took her a long time to decide. So I just secretly bought her the second doll and the artist promised to ship them together.

How would you feel if someone did this for you?

    8. It depends really if I bought it originally for me its because I actually like it. but if I realize I pulled a woopsy and I don't like my dolls I would not be opposed to give them away because I have no attachment to it because it displeases me. Lol

    9. To a close friend, yes.

    10. You know, I don't think I could. I want to buy a doll for my SO, but I have a feeling once I see it I'll change my mind and take it back :XD: I would love to give away a doll but I just don't see it happening. Too much effort and thought put into it. If I got money in exchange that would be different.

    11. @Skyland wish I had the same problem XD

I could never give away one off my dolls!!! Ive put a lot of work and love into them, it would be like giving away a part of my soul.
      I could buy a doll for a friend. ^^

    12. I would, could, and did! It didn't sit right with me to sell my first doll (KDF Cherry) when I decided to part with her, so I gifted her to a very close friend of mine who loves, but couldn't afford, bjds. I feel happy knowing she's being well cared for and that I can still see her on a regular basis if I wanted to. Plus, I got the added bonus of watching said friend flip when I handed her her first bjd :)

    13. It really depends on the situation and who your giving the doll to and why. Purchasing a doll for another person I feel like is the same. But then again, they are so expensive I couldn't even imagine giving one away.

    14. There's only one situation where I might give my doll away. That's if I had a falling out with my current living arrangements. I would probably give my dolls to a trusted friend for safe keeping. Make sure they stay in a safe secure place while I work things out.

    15. I wouldn't give a doll away for free, especially not to someone I don't know in person. These dolls are too valuable to simply give away, i'm not made of money. If I had an older doll I no longer wanted that I felt might not make much money due to its age etc then I would set up a charity lotto where the proceeds (from people paying a small fee to enter) would go to a worthy cause and the winner chosen randomly from a hat. The ONLY exception would be if it was going to a close relation who perhaps couldn't easily save up for one of their own, then it may be given as a birthday/xmas present. But I certainly wouldn't give any of my dolls away to someone I only know through the internet e.g. a forum or youtube. To me that's crazy:o, especially as most can easily afford to get one of their own taking in to consideration that there are many people out there that would lurve to own one but just don't have the funds (or popularity:roll:).

    16. Ummm....no...
I wouldn't giveaway anything to a stranger if I didn't have something in return. People who want support and popularity in social media do giveaways because they want to draw in people, but I don't....get why you would otherwise give it away. I would gift it to a friend if she liked dolls. But yeah, the concept sounds rather strange.

    17. I've given two dolls to someone in my family before. They were so appreciative and it made me feel happy that I did! It would have been easy to take the money I could have gotten from a sale but this was so much better for me. I love giving gifts though and it was just nice to see them go to someone that would enjoy them.
That being said I don't think I could give a doll to someone I didn't know, especially through the internet... It would be so easy for someone to lie about their circumstances or get the doll just to sell it. Not saying that so many people are dishonest, but you just never know... I don't mind giving away some doll accessories though!

    18. I've given a few away as gifts. Why not?

    19. GIVE away a doll? No. I'm in no financial position to just give away one of my $400 investments.

Sell a doll to a close friend for a special price? Sure.

Purchase a doll for a close friend when I can afford to? Of course. I know it isn't much different than giving away one of my own dolls, but there just seems to be a snag there for me.

    20. I have given away plenty of OT dolls, but to date I have not given away any of my BJD. There could always be a circumstance where I would do it, but it hasn't happened yet.
