Would you go to a physical BJD store?

Dec 21, 2014

    1. Would you go to it?

      Yesssss :)

What would you expect to find there?

Dolls, clothes, wigs ,eyes, furniture and craft things (wig ...)

What would you want it to have?

Some services like restringing a doll , makup, doll preorder

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

      yes

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

      never been :(

    2. I would love to go to a physical BJD store! I would be fine with other hobbies there too, and I would expect to find lots of example dolls with various face-ups.

    3. I would love to go to such a store. I think it is much better than an online store because you can see an actual size and color of the doll. Not to mention that you can actually hold the dol in your hands. That all makes everything so much easier to decide what doll you actually want to buy.

    4. I'd LOVE to go to a BJD store, but I would be terrified the whole time of breaking things, running into things, or knocking things over o.o

I'd love to see different clothes, though, and accessories like wigs and eyes. Even being able to compare doll brands, sizes, bodies, etc would be awesome, since I'm new.

    5. If there was a physical store where I live I would be there ALL the TIME.

    6. I'd love to go to a physical store! It would be great to able to see clothes and shoes properly before ordering them, and sale items would be great! I would go there all the time, haha!

    7. I would definitely go to a physical BJD store! I think it would be super cool to see everything in person and also to get to see dolls that I don't want to buy in person too. Plus, if I really wanted something I wouldn't have to wait a long time for it to show up. I'd definitely want it to have multiple different sculpts of all different sizes there, clothes, shoes, and wigs. I think it'd be great if it also had MSC and face up supplies, as well as other necessary things for doll maintenance. I think it'd be okay if other doll stuff was there too, but I'd want them to all be separated so if you only wanted to look in the BJD section you wouldn't have to look through a whole different hobbies' dolls. Sadly, I've never been to an actual BJD store before. Maybe one day!

    8. I wish! I would love to see everyone's dolls and I don think I would leave. I would love to see the sculpts in person before I buy.

    9. I'd love too! If it was nearby Id be there all the time to browse and what not. There actually used to be a doll store that also catered to the BJD hobby a few towns over from me, but it sadly went out of business before I could ever make the trip. OTL

    10. If there was a store near where I live I would defiantly go there all the time!

    11. Would you go to it?
      Of course !

What would you expect to find there?
      Dolls, accessories, wigs, eyes, msc!!

What would you want it to have?

I think mostly I would want it to have clothes and furniture :)

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      Yes !

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
Never, but I would love to go to one :(

    12. For me, the store would have been salvation. I find it so difficult to choose the very first BJD, to hold in your hand, to look at it, pick up a wig and eyes..... Dreams....

    13. Would you go to it?

Omg yeeeeessss... well, I suppose it depends on what it has. Ironically, if all it stocked was dolls, I probably wouldn't go too far unless there was a special event. IF there was an event, I'd drive an hour or two for it at least!

What would you expect to find there?

I like what others have said about it being more of a "community" center rather than just a straight up shop. I'm trying to think of how a BJD store could be profitable. A doll cafe sounds MARVELOUS, perhaps decorated with dressed up dolls in glass cases that you can view while you eat... and said dolls are up for sale! So, if someone comes and doesn't buy dolls, then they at least spend money on food! Having a small space for things like small workshops and group meetings would be cool, like the back of game stores usually have. I know of a comicbook store that has a cafe in the back, so if there's a good doll community nearby, it's definitely doable! Then again, BJDs are a very specific niche that's not as broad. Perhaps have the cafe upfront and the store-part in the back? That way it seems more like a walk-in friendly place for non-doll people to come and enjoy lunch as well.

What would you want it to have?

Ironically, I wouldn't really care for it to have tons of dolls.. maybe a few. I can look at dolls online and owner pictures, and come to a conclusion. No... I tell you what they need to have.

LOTS OF CLOTHES AND WIGS IN ALL SIZES!! Props of different scales would be cool too, but lower on priority.

There are SO many times where I'd look at something and go, "Man, I have NO idea if that'll fit my doll right". Looking at wigs too-big and too-small, all at the supposed same size... drives me nuts! Clothes are even more extreme in this matter. When you own a sculpt with artistic proportions, how do you know if clothing labeled "MSD-size" and displayed on a proportionate body will actually fit your doll? I've had people say that "x" clothes fit "y" sculpt, but come to find that they're too tight or too loose. I would LOOOOVE the ability to take in my doll and compare her to the clothing there. Even more ideal: the shop assistants would help you try on the outfits, just like you gotta try on outfits for yourself IRL. I'd gladly dump money on clothing, accessories, and props that I can accurately match to my doll's sizes!

As a side note, craft materials involved in faceups, modding, stringing, etc. would also be convenient.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

For it to be profitable and have a large enough customer base, it would likely require it to cover other hobbies. For this reason, I'm totally okay with whatever they need to do to stay in business. Then again, other crafty hobbies are pretty nerdy, so going to that shop would prolly kill two birds with one stone for me xD.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

Haven't been. I think there's a doll store in Florida somewhere? Not sure if it's worth driving hours to get to, however, for reasons listed above.

    14. If you had a physical store devoted to BJD in your area:

      Would you go to it?
Yes! Haha. I love looking at different items in the store, and getting to feel the item itself (or just the weight, since the item is packaged) before I buy. It's a different experience from buying online. Also, bonus, no wait times :)

What would you expect to find there?
Dolls, wigs clothes etc, accessories, bags etc. Would be nice if they carried furniture too, since that's the one item that usually end up being hard to order online (shipping etc) and I imagine a store might be able to more easily get them (not sure how true that is though).

What would you want it to have?
Oh, I already wrote it above, haha. Furniture! Faceup supplies and maintance tools are useful too :)

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Definitely. There used to be a Blythe/Pullip store in town, and sometimes it had bjd items (not dolls itself though), but it's no longer there D:

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I've been to a few. The one in Singapore was mostly a Blythe/Pullip store and it also had other toy related items, and things like wefted hair for wigs etc, clothing and shoes. It was just a shop.

I've also been to ninestyle in Korea, which is a cafe with a store, and they display dolls of other companys, which is a great way for me to see dolls that I may not usually look at (e.g. different sizes etc). I saw a Bewithyou doll and he is huge. He stands at the cafe counter where you pay, haha. The cafe itself had display sets for owners to photograph, which is nice, and the cafe itself was already full when I went, so I only shopped at the store. Ended up buying a lot of things, which is the danger of being able to buy the item RIGHT NOW (something not usually the case for this hobby).

I also went to Volks (both Korea and Japan), which are shops, and they have items besides dolls (things that look like gundam kits though that's probably not what they are) and they display their dolls on the shelfs alongside the items, which is really neat. The ninestyle ones are usually in glass cabinets, but anyway you're not supposed to touch the doll.

Dolk in Japan was another wonderful place, since it carries items from many different stores unlike Volks which only has Volks dolls and items, so that was another eye opener. Mostly the shops are just a bigger version of what you might find at booths in doll events, with dolls around as display, items for sale, even potential items to try if the shop allows. And sometimes you get free gifts, which is always nice :) I like how the ninestyle one has a cafe, though I do forsee the crowd staying in for quite a while, so I'm not sure how profitable it is as a cafe.

    15. I would love to go to a BJD store, maybe with other hobbies too. I am very much into lolita fashion, so it would be AWESOME if there was a section where you could get small lolita dresses for your dolls to match you! Other dolls, toys, figures, etc. would be pretty cool too. Stuff that makes sense together, though. Like I collect porcelain dolls also, but those would not fit in a BJD store, I think. I would hope that if a BJD store were to open here in America, one would be in NYC because I live so close to it.

    16. Would you go to it?
      *Yeah I would!

What would you expect to find there?
      *...Dolls and accessories for dolls!

What would you want it to have?
      * A substantial variety of wigs!

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      *Yes of course

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
*Living in Korea there are quite a few, but I've been too shy to go to them yet. One of these days I will go!

    17. Would you go to it?
      Of course!

What would you expect to find there?/What would you want it to have?
Dolls, clothing, the option to order through the store a doll and maybe put it on layaway or something.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Of course! Because then hopefully they would stay in business longer

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I haven't been to a BJD store before, the closest I have come is a store that just sold re-ment and a few items of clothing. But they didn't sell dolls.

    18. If you had a physical store devoted to BJD in your area:

      Would you go to it?
Yes, i would totally go. i love seeing the product i am going to purchase in person instead of a computer monitor. Though, i wouldn't be able to purchase anything if the clothes are really pricey though.
      :|

What would you expect to find there?
Dolls, wigs clothes, accessories, bags, furniture, faceup supplies and faceup tools. I would say i'd like to have the bjd furniture most and faceup supplies (for an affordable price).

What would you want it to have?
      Furniture and faceup supplies!
      :XD:

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Yes, that would be so cool and awesome!

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      i haven't, sorry
      :pout:

    19. Would you go to it?

      YES !!!

What would you expect to find there?

      Doll, clothes, wigs ,eyes, furniture...

What would you want it to have?

      Lots of activities !

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

      Only Pullip

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

I want to the LDOLL, Doll in paris and Majestueuses BJD :)

    20. Would you go to it?

      Oh, definitely

What would you expect to find there?

Dolls (of course), clothes and accessories, tools for customizing, displays/dioramas

What would you want it to have?

      Classes, meet-ups, etc.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

Sure! (the more diversified their inventory the wider their client-base, the more likely they are to be able to stay open--it's only practical)

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

      n/a
