Would you go to a physical BJD store?

Dec 21, 2014

    1. I would love to go to a BJD store, as long as I didn't have to travel too far for it since I'm at the mercy of the bus system. I think I'd most want wigs, accessories and the tools for general care, but I'd be surprised if I didn't see clothes for all sizes too.

    2. YESYESYES. i would visit that store literally every single day omg. sadly, never gonna happen in my area xc but if i ever go to japan...

    3. Would you go to it?
      Yes, absolutely.

What would you expect to find there?
A lot of clothes, accessories, eyes, wigs. Probably, by comparison, less full set dolls.

What would you want it to have?
My dream shop to visit would be one with a large number of second-hand doll stuff. I love second-hand stores in general for the wide variety of colors, styles, unusual or rare stuff.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
I saw a video about a doll store in Thailand that had BJDs among many other Asiatic doll types, frankly I’d love to go to any doll store haha. Not many where I currently live, locally.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
Not a physical store but there was this amazing doll store called the Wee-Line that insisted on having as many different types of dolls as possible, I’d imagine they’d have had some type of BJDs or useful accessories if they were still around.

    4. Would you go to it?
If it is relatively close (within a 30 minute drive) and at a place where there are other shops as well such as Japan Town or something similar then sure :)

What would you expect to find there?
Things I would expect to see would be a variety of dolls from different companies in different price range.
Clothing, accessories, furniture, background, props...etc for bjd dolls.

What would you want it to have?

Maybe monthly showcase of local bjd collectors and dolls that they would like to have featured (with little info of their story, who did the faceup body blush, sculpt...etc)
Another idea would be ever quarter they would host a bjd get together such as a tea party where you bring your dolls and have lunch, or a DIY get together where everyone can create a single item for their dolls together or basic body blush/faceup classes...etc. Basically anything to get bjd lovers together!
There could also be monthly group orders where you can sign up to have the shop order dolls for you to pick up. Since the dolls will be shipped to the store in batches, maybe the shipping would be cheaper for you to pick up even with a small pick up fee of sorts.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

I don't particularly mind however, I would imagine that it will be either a shop that features toys and a small bjd section so they can have a steady revenue to upkeep the shop or mainly a small bjd exclusive shop that mainly features small sections of dolls and clothes.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

I don't think I have been to an actual bjd store although the closest thing would be a bjd booth at conventions.
They mainly sell clothes and some accessories but since the conventions I go to aren't geared towards bjds (mostly anime and such) there isn't usually a big crowd at the booths. If anything I think people might want to venture into the hobby but they would most likely prefer to purchase a doll over clothes first since they don't have a doll yet. However, I would imagine that people don't just shell out like $500+ out of the blue so it would have to be more affordable dolls maybe $300 and under.

    5. Heck yeah I would go!
I've been to two before: one in North Carolina and one in Canada. The Canadian one was really small and hard to find, and the BJDs were in a back room (the rest of the store was Barbie and stuff). The North Carolina one is MUCH larger, like a display room, and an area along the side and back wall held BJDs behind glass. I didn't mind that these two weren't a BJD-only store, but if such a thing exists, I wanna go.
If there were more BJD stores around I would go to every single one and buy some dolls and doll outfits if I could. It would help with seeing if I like the doll, how they pose, the size, and with seeing if clothing fits too. I'd really love to see a large range of them, both in size and company.

    6. I would love to go to a physical store! Even if I only ever went in to window shop or I bought something every time I went.

    7. Would you go to it? OMG YES
What would you expect to find there?
Probably a few dolls from many different popular BJD companies
What would you want it to have?
Lots of pretty dolls! Especially Soom dolls (but I am biased on that)
Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too? Of course! That way it would be easier for them to stay in business!

Sadly I have never been to one. That would be awesome, though!

    8. That would be amazing! To physically see beautiful dolls on display. To not have to pay shipping or have to wait to get your itemail shipped to you. It would be a dream. I would be so poor I'd go there all the time. I would expect them to have a good supply of wigs and doll accessories. And I don't think I'd care if there was other hobbies in the store as well. I'd just be floored that a store in my state actually sold bjd stuff.

    9. Would you go to it?
Yes, absolutely, especially if it was in my area. It will allow me to view dolls up close and personal. I'll be able to see just how large/small they are, and view their sculpts from different angles. Company photos are often beautiful and artistic, but they can only show so much.

What would you expect to find there?
I'd expect to find some dolls, clothes, shoes, wigs, and eyes, preferably from a variety of companies.

What would you want it to have?
I'd love it if the store had some sample eyes, wigs, shoes, and clothes that dolls can try on. This way, their owners can see what fits and what doesn't before buying a brand new, unopened item.
I think some unique items made specifically for that store would be wonderful too, and great for the shop's business. It would encourage people to enter their store, and buy those unique items.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Sure. There is nothing wrong with having a bunch of hobbies merged together. Sometimes they overlap, or use similar materials (such as epoxy and artist-quality paints and brushes).

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it?
I think the closest I've ever been to a physical bjd store was the dealer's hall of a bjd convention. There were a bunch of vendors there who had their dolls, clothes, wigs, eyes, and shoes on display. Some of them let your doll try on sample items, while others didn't. Most of them were pretty helpful, kind, and accommodating, especially to new doll owners and their plethora of questions.

    10. Would you go to it?
      I would love to.

What would you expect to find there?
Lots of bjd, wigs, eyes, shoes etc. The possibility of buying dolls other people are selling.

What would you want it to have?
A doll cafe would be nice and pleasant enthousiastic staff.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Not really, unless it is craft products relating to bjd and their clothes.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
Never to a real one so to speak.

    11. Would you go to it?
Yes! I wish there was a place closer to where I live. There is none in my state as far as I know, which is sad. If someone knows otherwise, let me know. (Indiana)

What would you expect to find there?

Pretty much everything you can find online. Dolls, doll parts, wig, clothes, eyes, supplies... ect.

What would you want it to have?
Everything listed above, but would most be hopeful that they carry all the customization supplies.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

      Yes

    12. If you had a physical store devoted to BJD in your area:

      Would you go to it?
      Yes

What would you expect to find there?

Dolls and accesories, maybe other things like toy models or fun japanese toys to bring in different people.

    13. I would love to go to a store. It would be much easier to get a view of the solls.

I would like to find some nice dolls i had not seen before or a Doll i fell in love with. I would buy a Doll if i was sø lucky to ever visit a Bjd store.

It would be okay if there was other hobbies in the same store.

But I have yet to ever visit one.
Maybe next time I go to Korea!

    14. Would you go to it? Yes!!!!!! I'd love to!

What would you expect to find there? Clothes and accessories and hopefully dolls :3

What would you want it to have? Same as #2

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too? Yup. I'm into some other hobbies and variety is always cool with me.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it?? I went to Apelan Hobbies & Collectibles, in the Los Angeles area, and I loved it! They did have many other hobbies, but had a full case of BJDs, and they were dealers of Monique wigs too. The lady working there was really nice and fun to talk to about BJDs! I had a great time.

    15. I would love to go, but I think it would be torture since I tend to be broke most of the time. XD

I would hope they'd have dolls, clothes, wigs, eyes, shoes, accessories and tools/supplies.

Other hobby items would be okay, but I'm really only interested in dolls. The shop should be at least 50% doll stuff to be worth it to me.

    16. I would love to visit an actual doll store or work shop. It would be totally amazing to see the dolls displayed and each detail of them. It would also give people different ideas of how to display a doll etc.

    17. Oh, hey, I've never heard of that store before! I'll have to go check it out...

I've been lucky and have been to several stores before (Volks L.A. when it was open, Elfdoll in Glendale when it was open), and have been to a ton of BJD cons, which were AMAZING for seeing and buying dolls and items. The big ones like Dollism Plus US and BJDC and the Korean BJD Show... but the smaller cons are good, too. At least 7 of my dolls were purchased in-person from a company/agent/store. And a ton of clothes...

    18. Oh man, I would love to have near me. Especially if I can bring dolls of my own to make sure clothing would fit, to see the fit of a wig...But mostly to see the dolls I'm interested in in person. I live in constant fear of spending so much money on a doll and it coming home and realizing I don't like the sculpt near as much as I liked to company photos...

    19. Would you go to it?
      Yes
What would you expect to find there?
The opportunity to see (and try, if is possible) clothes and accesories before buy.
What would you want it to have?
      A corner for entushiasts
Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      Yes
If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

FIve years ago in tokyo, SOOM store and some hobby stores and Volks (when was only in a floor) in Akihabara.

    20. Would you go to it?
      In a heartbeat!

What would you expect to find there?
Dolls (hopefully a variety of manufacturers), clothing, wigs and other accessories.

What would you want it to have?
A room or designated area for local meet-ups would be so cool - as would a showcase for people to consign their dolls and high quality clothing/accessories. It would also be great if locals could have a "community board" where they could post flyers or business cards for their services like faceups. custom clothing/wigs and the like.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
I'd imagine that in order for a brick and mortar store to make ends meet, it would have to have other hobbies as well. Perhaps a colaboration with a gaming store where both sides also sell related anime/manga and gaming items could work. It think

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
N/A. Well, the closest I've come is a bi-annual doll show and a couple of annual cons where BJDs often are available.
