Would you go to a physical BJD store?

Dec 21, 2014

    1. Would you go to it?
Yes, despite my wallet screaming no. I'd also try to do everything in my power to work there. Working with dolls to get more money to buy dolls? Perfect.

What would you expect to find there?
A lot of doll making and modding supplies, as well as clothes, accessories, wigs, and eyes. Plus, the dolls themselves. Maybe not full sets, but at least heads, bodies, and optional parts.

What would you want it to have?
Everything listed above, but more specifically, a considerable line of dolls for purchase; not just a couple from one or two companies. It'd also be cool if they gave classes for modding, faceups, and things of that nature! I'd also really like a resin matching service...that'd be a life (and money!) saver.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Why not? More stuff to browse through!

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I mean, I'm taking a trip to Denver and I'm definitely going to the Denver Doll Emporium, so I guess I'll edit this answer when I get there!

    2. YES I WOULD! It be so much easier I would hope they would have things that I want. I would like to shop at Mint of card. But there so far away from me. They have a store is in Michigan.

    3. Would you go to it?
      Absolutely!

What would you expect to find there?
I would love to see a great collection of BJD from many popular companies, clothings, accessories, every little thing BJD related.

What would you want it to have?

It would be great if they also provide services like custom face up by their own artists, or like doll spa service to maintain and pamper your dolls.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
I'd prefer it to be more BJD oriented, as long as it is related to BJD like sewing which can be applied to making the BJD clothes, that would be awesome.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
Once, but it was a collector's doll shop...so it's not solely about BJD, they have all kinds of dolls from Pullips, BJDs to action figures. It was a wonderful experience for me.

    4. Would you go to it?
I would love to go to a physical BJD store if there was one around! It's something I've always wanted to do.
What would you expect to find there?
I would hope to find all of the types of doll things that one may need- clothes, wigs, eyes, ect.. and dolls of course!
What would you want it to have?
I would be thrilled if it had any type of BJD really, but being a major fan of DD and collecting Anthro dolls I would hope it would have some of one or the other.
Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
I would absolutely be fine with other hobbies being included! I have way too many hobbies anyway, and honestly in my area the only way a store like that could even dream of staying open is if it did have other departments as well.
If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I've never actually been to a BJD store, but a couple of doll shows. I would love to go someday! Every show that I've been to has been fairly disappointing in terms of price and product availability.

    5. yes... i would go there
if they sell clothes i would live to fit some shoes for my dolls
in expecting to see some heads and body parts

    6. Would you go to it?
Yes I wish I had one close to my house.

What would you expect to find there?
I would just like to go and be able to pick which ones to buy.

What would you want it to have?
Really all of the different brands and if not a book to choose from.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Yes the more the merrier. Of course I would like it related to the bjds.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it?? No I can only dream it had to be like I was in heaven.

    7. Would you go to it?Yes, but since I'm poor I'm sure I'd just be doing a lot of browsing.

What would you expect to find there?
      Dolls, Wigs, Clothes

What would you want it to have?
Anything that would be good for all bjd owners to want such as cases for carrying dolls and maybe like a storage for clothes.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Probably if it related to bjd I would be okay with it.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      No, sadly not.

    8. I know I have posted in this thread before but I just visited a physical BJD store. So my views have shifted a little.

What did I expect to find there?
BJD stuff, possibly some crafting and stringing supplies

      What was actually there?
There were several different companies in the store including but Luts, Dollmore, Angell-studio, and Smart Doll. There were also a display of Calico Critters, Tonner Dolls, and some off topic artist doll but those dolls were secondary and clearly not the focus of the store.
There large number of fabric bins, that contained clothes, the bins had the general size of the doll and maker of the clothes on the front of the bin for quickly sorting. The only company that clothes displayed differently was Maskcat's 21 cm clothes were hung on hooks by the dolls.
There were also wigs stored in generally the same way. And eyes. I may have missed it but it didn't see any crafting supplies, string ect.
There were at least 20 dolls on display and the staff was easy going about opening boxes and letting me touch things.

What would I've liked to see?
I liked it if there was more Lati Yellow sized items and some elastic string but that's nitpicking.

Was I okay having non-BJD dolls in the store?
It wasn't a problem for me. All the other toys were in the very front of the store. So when I got into the main store it barely even registered.

      Would I go back?
Yes. But it will never be main source of BJD stuff.

I love everything about my experience. Being able to handle and see items before purchasing is reaffirm thing. I love being able to talk to someone in real life about purchase before buying. Not paying shipping is great. The staff was friendly and helpful.

However, there's some limitations. First, while this store is somewhat "local" it is 2 hours away from my home. So it's not a place that I get to visit all the time. But mostly like a place I visit once or twice a year. And most likely only for a big haul or a doll were the shipping would just be crazy.

Second, while I do want to support them as much as possible. They're a physical store. So sometimes, they won't have what I need.

TL;DR Physical stores are awesome. Much love still need Etsy though.

    9. I would if there's any near me! But considering I live in a place where even cars and figures are a weird hobby... I don't think I'll ever find one ;; Maybe if I go to vacation somewhere....

    10. Would you go to it?
Yes! Definitely! I love would love to see dolls in real life before I place an order, though I have to say so far all of my dolls have exceeded my expectations.

What would you expect to find there?
I would expect to find displays of dolls and clothing, also some room/chairs to sit down and chat with other doll lovers.

What would you want it to have?
I would really love it having a themed display for holidays/special occasions like department stores.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
I think I would be OK with it also having pullip/blyth etc. Anything else would not be too good for me personally,

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I have visited one. It was fantastic! The owners were really nice and knowledgeable about their dolls. I got to hear about the stories and inspirations behind the dolls. It was a stand-alone shop for a single BJD company. Since I did not own any doll from that company, it was fun to see those dolls and learn about them.

    11. I would love to go to a physical BJDD store. Mainly one in Japan. I've heard stories of the stores there and they sound amazing!

    12. Would you go to it?
Yes there is one near me actually
I often go there to take a look

What would you expect to find there?
What I like to buy most is eyes
Sometimes u really need to put them on to find the right eyes for ur girl

What would you want it to have?
I would more prefer non-brand name items
      Not like Azone those kinds
Coz those I could easily find online and see how it looks, and they usually markup at physical store I won't buy it anyways I rather wait

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

No I prefer more specialised stores

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      Yes and I love it
I wish there are more near me

    13. Would you go to it?
Yes! I would go often if there was one near me. I'm impatient and not having to wait for a doll would be amazing.

What would you expect to find there?
All size dolls (new and used), wigs, eyes, and clothes.

What would you want it to have?
Ideally, I would want but not expect: a small assortment of accessories, furniture, backgrounds, bjd crafting/ modding supplies, clothes crafting supplies, eye crafting supplies. I'd give anything if they regularly carried japanese crafting kits/ bjd craft books.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

Yes, I'd be fine with it.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I haven't ever been to one.

    14. Would you go to it? Yes! My favorite part about visiting Tokyo is being able to go to a physical store!

What would you expect to find there? Dolls, outfits, wigs, eyes, accessories, books, etc/

What would you want it to have? More in stock dolls. The majority of the stores I've been to don't actually have a lot of the dolls in stock, which is something I totally understand, but I can dream!!!

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too? Yes, that wouldn't bother me as long as the sections were clearly indicated. For example, the Volks showroom has garagekits in there too.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it?? It was amazing!! I went to the Volks Akihabara location and I loved it. I do wish they had more outfits in stock for SD girls. A lot was for MDs, which I don't have. And shoes were so difficult to find!

    15. Most certainly, I'd love to go to a physical store and that way you can actually hold the dolls and accessories to get a better idea and it's much clearer on what you are buying.

    16. I'd really love to buy a doll from a physical store. It would be like a dream come true just to see a bunch of bjd for real in front of me, close to hand. But it'll be very bad for my bank account ...

    17. Would you go to it?
Absolutely! I'd love to be able to look and browse and take things home immediately, rather than compulsively checking on a tracking number.

What would you expect to find there?

A range of in-stock dolls (with services to order dolls in other skin-tones, etc.), clothing, wigs, and basic maintenance items. Also props and furniture. Generally the same things a good online retailer carries, except in front of me.

What would you want it to have?

A program that facilitated commissioning clothes and face-ups. Maybe like some antique stores, it would rent floorspace to individual artists, where they could display their own items.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

I'm already risking breaking my suspension of disbelief with imagining a store in my area; I'm going to say that if it has any hope of staying for more than a month or two, it would have to. As well as carrying on a lively internet business.

    18. Would you go to it?
      If I could, yes!

What would you expect to find there?
Hopefully clothes, wigs, and eyes. It would be cool to see a gallery of BJDs too.

What would you want it to have?
Basically what I listed. Seeing and trying a wig on my doll in person is nice!

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      Sure, why not?

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I haven't been to a store, but I've been to a BJD con here in Austin on the free day. It was small, but cool!

    19. Would you go to it?
yes, it would be so cool to be able to see how big various sizes are in person, since numbers don't mean anything towards my mental imagery of anything.

What would you expect to find there?

      Dolls and Doll related accessories.

What would you want it to have?
      Dolls and Doll related accessories.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Yeah, it would make a lot of sense for there to be craft supplies and other things that could be related to dolls, but not just the dolls themselves.

    20. Would you go to it? HECKIE YEAH

What would you expect to find there? Clothes, accessories and dolls alike

What would you want it to have? Lots of frilly dresses and nice wigs

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too? Yeah, especially ones related to the BJD hobby

      If you
have been to a physical bjd store, how was it?? N/A
