Would you go to a physical BJD store?

Dec 21, 2014

    1. Would you go to it?
If there was a BJD store where I live, I'd never leave it!

What would you expect to find there?

I would expect to find clothes, furniture, accessories and maybe some dolls (pre-owned and new). A photo area would be cool, and if the store is big enough tables where you could hold small meetups.

What would you want it to have?
I'd really want them to have lots of furniture options and clothes options for all sizes.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Definitely. Hobbies can bring people together and you never know what hobbies can overlap.

    2. Would you go to it?
Yes! I would love being able to browse a real store!

What would you expect to find there?
A few dolls on display, fully dressed, simple heads and bodies to buy and customise, and lots of clothes, eyes and wigs.

What would you want it to have?

As above, it would be soooo good to be able to go clothes shopping for my dolls.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

To be profitable, I think it would have to sell smaller items with bigger profit margin, like anime figures and nerdy merch.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

In Japan, I went to the Azone store and I wish I could go there every day. I prefer big dolls, but the shopping experience of being able to pick a doll and an outfit like a deluxe build a bear experience was soooo good. I bought a naked Pullip and dressed her in Azone clothes and she was my first BJD.

    3. I would love to!!! I really want to see the dolls physically, also I would love to see the furnitures and the doll house which I think the stores would normally have. I know some stores often offer restringing services or other services which is very convenient.

    4. It would be so much more convenient that way lol.

    5. If there were one near me that didn't involve a crazy long drive, absolutely!! I'm terrible at visualizing scale so being able to see different scaled dolls in person would be really helpful! An different eyes, clothes, accessories, tools, etc. would be nice too. I think it'd be neat having a store to go for dolls and other hobbies like minis or other figures

    6. I would go..I would prob spend alot of money in there.. but sadly where I live there's no store for BJD or any kind of dolls in my area .have to order everything for my dolls online

    7. Would you go to it?
Absolutely, it would be nice to not have to pay shipping costs for things, and I think seeing things in person helps a lot when deciding whether to buy something or not.
I don't think there's any BJD related physical stores in my area. The closest is probably the USA VOLKS store, which is really far from me, and not even in the same country, just on the same continent. I'd love to visit a BJD store if it existed near me.

What would you expect to find there? / What would you want it to have?

Probably not actual dolls themselves, but more likely clothes, wigs, eyes, restringing tools and other care items, and maybe faceup tools and the like. I think it would be cool if there were also pre-made dioramas for photoshoots that get changed every now and then. Seasonal ones would be cute!

It would be interesting if they had a pre-owned doll section where they offer to buy used dolls to sell them for you, but I think that might make it too much like a pawn shop at that point.

I think the logistics of what brands they sell for clothes/wigs/eyes etc might be an issue, since they can't carry everything. If they were like a dealer but as a physical store, or their own business that produces all these things (like VOLKS), it would probably be more doable, but I don't really know anything about business.

    8. Would you go to it?
      Definitely!

What would you expect to find there?
I would expect to find dolls on display, clothes, wigs, accessories and furniture.

What would you want it to have?
Perhaps a cafe area where doll owners can hold meetups. And a secondhand area too where dollowners can sell their pre-loved items.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Only if it's in the same category of collectibles, and perhaps hobbies that overlap, like photography and sewing can overlap with the BJD hobby.

    9. Would you go to it?

Oh for sure! I'd love to be able to shop around and see everything in person! For me that's a much nicer experience than shopping online, where you only have images which may or may not show certain angles, or may not be able to express the true color of something, etc.

What would you expect to find there?

I suppose depending on if it was a single-company shop or more of a general shop, I'd expect different things. A company-specific shop would be cool if they had a couple of displays that had the different body options, and the main head sculpts, perhaps with some samples of the different resin tones. It'd be incredible to see all of that in person before buying!
In either case I'd obviously love to see wigs and clothes and accessories, and probably also some maintenance/use items like wig caps, the strings, eye putty, etc.

What would you want it to have?

Someone earlier mentioned a sitting area for people to perhaps meet up and chat, and that is honestly SUCH a good/cute idea. Altho for floor space it might not really work, but they could be placed near to like a cafe or have a cute outdoor patio area or something. It might be cool if they had like, deals with some local face-up artists too? So they could show images of their work and maybe part of the ordering process could be having your doll head sent to them first or something like that.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

This was also mentioned earlier I'm sure, but the BJD hobby as a whole has a great range of overlap with other sorts of hobbies. The store could easily overlap into all sorts of BJD adjacent crafts, from fabrics to beads to even art supplies for face-ups. They could also have different collectables present, different dolls or figures, that sort of thing.

    10. For sure! It's so hard to tell how something's going to look until you see it in person, a physical store would make that so much easier.

    11. Would you go to it?
Yes! I would likely become a regular and obsess over the store.

What would you expect to find there?
      Clothes wigs and shoes, mostly

What would you want it to have?
I would really love to see furnitures and props! Some photoshoot items as well. Backdrops, stands, stringing tools..
Maybe it can offer restringing services!

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
The hobby lapses with other hobbies that involve collecting, Im sure. If it gets the store going, why not

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I havent been yet. I do plan to visit them next time I'm in Korea or Japan.

    12. I wish! I would expect to find actual dolls, wigs, clothing and customization products. I would not care what other products they sell.

    13. I've been to the Nice Twice doll shop in Campbell, CA before, they mostly stock Western dolls like Barbie and Madame Alexander but the lady at the counter was kind enough to show me the few BJD-specific outfits they had on hand and they had Pullips as well as a bunch of doll clothes in different sizes.

    14. I would def go :XD: maybe not to buy a full doll. But more of like for clothing, wigs, accessories. Also it would be a great place to meet other doll people

    15. Would you go to it?
In theory, yes... on a good day. I have difficulty with large crowds and with strangers; but the doll community has been very supportive and accepting of my strange neurodivergent ways.

What would you expect to find there?
Well, dolls of the BJD variety largely. I'd be nice to see both some on display that belong to the owners as well as some in stock for sale as well as ordering service.

What would you want it to have?
Perhaps a section that is a dolly wig shop, a hattery, clothing, and eye sections; all done up to look like old-timey Victorian stores. Maybe even other "stores" for furniture and accessories.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Sure! I have other hobbies, and some of my dolls have hobbies as well... sometimes the same hobbies as me.

    16. Would you go to it?
Absolutely! I may not buy anything, just because I tend to be picky with the dolls I buy, but if they did have a doll I want then It'd be really cool to get to see it in person before I buy and would have it immediately upon purchase.

What would you expect to find there?
I would hope to find second hand dolls, limited dolls that are no longer being offered by the artists, and copious amounts of clothes and accessories. It's be especially cool if they had little dolly dressing rooms, where you could try clothes onto your dolls to see if they fit. I've purchased too many clothing items that end up not fitting my dolls once they come in, so this could help prevent that!

What would you want it to have?
Pretty much everything I said in the above answer, but if we want to get more specific, I'd love to find a Doll Chateau Carol or some Switch dolls that I don't have yet.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Of course! I think it'd be hard to sustain a store off of dolls alone, so it'd only make sense to have other things in addition to dolls and doll accessories. I think I'd rather the other things sold be somewhat loosely related to ball jointed dolls, though, even if it's just as loosely as other products from asian countries.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I have not, but I would love to.

    17. Oh yes! I would love to go to a physical bjd store! I would love to be able to see and buy clothes, shoes, wigs and eyes that actually fit my doll. It will save me a lots of money of buying items that don't fit and re-buy again.

    18. Would you go to it?
Yes, I would go, even if it does take a while to go.
What would you expect to find there?
Dolls, clothing, accessories, maybe some craft tools as well.
What would you want it to have?
I would like to see stuff being sold by local artists if possible. I mostly just want to see other dolls on display.
Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      Yep, provided that it's related/relevant.
If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I have been to one and while it was nice to see 1/3 dolls in person for the first time and seeing several +72 cm dolls as well, I didn't really like it since the aesthetics and accessories of the items and dolls there were not my cup of tea. I did note that they did have some bodies and fullsets out on display, so it was nice to see the body and color in person and see the faceups and quality of fullsets. I just kinda wished that the accessories were more varied and most of the accessories there were of things I could easily get elsewhere. I'll probably visit it again though if I got nothing to do and if a friend wants to get into BJDs.There's another one in the city that's actually the shop for a BJD brand (Spiritdoll, and the previous store is a major dealer around here) but I kind of don't want to go since I know I won't buy anything there judging by the items the store carries from customer photos.

    19. That would be soooo cool. I'd love that.
Even if they wouldn't sell any dolls and only focused on Clothes, Shoes and Accessories.
Just being able to browse stuff in person would make a huge difference.
Though, as a European, I highly doubt that I would ever get to see such a store anywhere near where I live. I mean, we don't even have a simple BJD-Online-Store over here.

    20. Would you go to it?
I would definitely go to a physical BJD store if there was one around here. It would absolutely help me decide on what to get and what they actually look like in general.

What would you expect to find there?
I expect things like accessories and clothes for the most part and even modification and art supplies for the dolls.

What would you want it to have?
Possible dolls in it and would love if they could also help you buy a doll from a company as well! Also color of resin comparisons, sizes of dolls in general...the things that would help you visualize and a pick a doll out.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
I see why not anything hobby related would be welcomed!
