Would you go to a physical BJD store?

Dec 21, 2014

    1. Would you go to it?
      Oh yeah! I totally would!

What would you expect to find there?
most likely clothes, wigs, eyes, furniture, and other accessories.

What would you want it to have?
Most likely, but then again alot of times, for me it's a "I didn't know I needed it until I saw it" situation:XD:

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Totally I don't see why not.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      sadly I havent...:pout:

    2. Would you go to it?
Absolutely! As long as it was a reasonable distance away

What would you expect to find there?
      Dolls, clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.

What would you want it to have?
Maybe furniture? Doll furniture is pretty hard to find

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      Sure! The more the merrier

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
I have not, but I do know there are a few BJD cafes in South Korea.

    3. I would go to an actual bjd store. I would hope to see all doll sizes that they have on different sites. I would be able to ask all bjd questions in person, maybe meet other doll hobbyist and let our dolls me. I think that would be pretty cool. At this store if they have other hobbies that's cool too.

    4. If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??

I've been to Nine9 Style and Volks when I was in Seoul. It was a great experience but it would even be greater if I had more time and money. The staff in both stores are very kind and helpful. Nine9 Style is a doll cafe/store. You can bring your dolls, buy stuff for them while enjoying a hot cuppa. You can also take photos as they have some studios with props and lighting prepped up. I went alone so it wasn't that much fun. As for Volks, its just a regular store and as per rules of Volks Stores, you can't take non-Volks dolls inside. I only went to buy a sewing book and never took time to look at the dolls on display :(

    5. Would you go to it?

Oh HELL YES. I would love to be able to see dolls properly before I buy them!

What would you expect to find there?

A few pre-made dolls, resin samples from all sorts of companies so we can see the colors, outfits, shoes, (maybe an option for your doll to try on items so you can know if it fits or not), face up supplies, diy supplies.

What would you want it to have?

      See above!

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?

Yeah, as long as they're connected to miniatures and dolls. Like MH stuff, model trains and miniatures, etc.

    6. i absolutely wold go! waiting for shipping stinks

    7. Would you go to it?
YES! It would be awesome to have a place to shop for clothes and wigs in person, not to mention all of the people I'd get to talk to and the dollies I'd get to meet.
What would you expect to find there?
Possibly second-hand dolls, wigs and clothes of various sizes. Supplies for face ups, sealing sprays and varnishes.
What would you want it to have?
      Doll furniture, classes for modification.
Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
By other hobbies I assume they're still probably doll-centric, but more mainstream (fashion dolls, antique dolls, art dolls etc.) That's fine with me. It would be pretty cool if there were also miniatures and roombox stuff there too.

    8. Would you go to it?
Of course, it would be awsome to have a physical store here =D

What would you expect to find there?
      Dolls and dollstuff ^^

What would you want it to have?
Wigs, shoes, Eyes and of course dolls =D

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Yes, but I'd like if they just had dolls ^^

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      I haven't been..

    9. I'll reply to this, at the risk of my post being cliche ;-;

      Would you go to it?
If there was a BJD store even on my side of the state, I'd probably take weekly visits there.

What would you expect to find there?
Dolls, clothes, eyes, ect ect. I'd imagine they would include other things that overlap with the Dolly fanbase like anime items.

What would you want it to have?
Pretty much what I state above, but hopefully with some items that I couldn't find onvthe internet.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Of course! I have a lot of other hobbies, too. I wouldn't mind.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      I wish.

    10. Would you go to it?
Depends on how far away it was. Close by? All the time! Further away? Maybe as a special holiday thing..

What would you expect to find there? / What would you want it to have?
Now this one is why I answered! It's fun to imagine~

There are different ways you could set up the layout: by product type (with the products organized by brand) or by brand type (i.e. the 'SOOM' section would have SOOM brand clothing/eyes/wigs/display dolls, possibly split into further subsections for Idelian, The Gem, Rosette and Neo-Angel).

The store would also most certainly need some way to advertise the new dolls (of the companies they're associated with), so some sort of window posters? As well, in-store computers or catalogues so people can look through the dolls/product they can order through your store. Catalogues may be your best bet here as they'd be cheaper to maintain and not a huge loss if they got damaged/stolen, for instance, you could print out glossy pictures of company photos, slip them into plastic sleeves and stick 'em in a binder. This allows you to easily add and remove pages as dolls are released/discontinued.

Having a news board would be good too if you're open to allowing classes/clubs to be held in your store to build community (e.g. Sewing/Face-up/Sculpting/Wig-Making/Eye-Making/General Dolly Meets). A newsboard would also be useful for passing along doll company news.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
As long as the other hobbies could still be related to BJDs, for instance, materials used for sewing, making eyes and wigs, clay and sculpting etc. Though, I personally don't care, it's just to keep an image of 'the dolly store' :p

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      Nope.

    11. Would you go to it?
Yes and I would always be broke
      :XD:

What would you expect to find there?
      Dolls and accessories

What would you want it to have?
I would want it to have clothes, eyes, wigs but I also think it would be cool if it had things for faceups and mods

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
I would actually hope to see other hobbies there because a lot of them go well with bjds (example, art or model stuff which can also be used for faceups) One stop shop for all your hearts desires =D

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it?
I have never been, though I almost did a 12hr trip to one once and decided it wasn't worth it, especially after gas/hotel prices.

    12. Would you go to it?
Definitely! I would love to be able to buy things for my dolls - or even dolls themselves - from a brick and mortar store, especially one near me.

What would you expect to find there?
It would probably be mostly clothes, wigs, eyes, accessories and the like. ^_^

What would you want it to have?
I'd love for there to be a lot more accessories and furniture, things to help build setups for more life-like photos! It would also be just amazing to have dolls there for purchase, though this is a bit less likely, since they're so specialized. Perhaps a second-hand service, but in order to be successful, there would need to be a lot of interest in one area.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Of course! Maybe similar hobbies, like figures or models, and other collectibles. It would probably help bridge other people into accepting and appreciating the bjd hobby, even if they never get into it themselves.

If you have been to a physical bjd store before, how was it?
I had the pleasure of visiting the Volks store when I was in Japan on a study abroad. It was so surreal to be there, and see all of the amazing, high quality things they had! I hadn't seen many Dollfie Dreams in person before then, and after seeing the incredible ones they had on display, I know that I definitely want one of my own someday. One of the most comforting things about that store was that it was a brick and mortar store, and it felt so reassuring to be somewhere that not only validated but encouraged a hobby that feels as though it is talked of so little. Volks has never been my favorite bjd company, and it's taken me quite a few years in this hobby to warm up to their sculpts, but I have a deep respect for the quality of their products, and being in their store was a fantastic experience. :)

Another really cool experience I had in Japan was going to stores like Mandarake, where they sold second hand dolls! There were these amazing, nearly perfect dolls that you could just walk in and buy, often for cheaper than they were originally sold. They also had miscellaneous used doll clothes, and that was all I could afford at the time, haha. x3 I still treasure the cute SD17 outfit I got there, and am so excited to finally put it on an SD17 boy soon!

    13. Would you go to it?
Totally! As long as it wasn't too far, I would probably go fairly often just to see what's new!

What would you expect to find there?/What would you want it to have?
It'd be nice to have a decent stock of popular dolls, so there wouldn't be a wait time for shipping. It'd be cool if they carried supplies for faceups too, and maybe a section of special fabrics for dolls with proportional prints.

Would you be fine with having other hobbies in there too?
I suppose, if they were at least a little related. I wouldn't want someone from a completely different hobby coming in and judging the dolly owners.

    14. Would you go to it? Yes, if there were complete dolls within my price range.

What would you expect to find there?
Complete dolls within my price range.

What would you want it to have?
This doll within my price range.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      Yes.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      Never been to one.

    15. Would you go to it? I'd try not to, as I'd probably end up buying stuff I didn't really want.

What would you expect to find there? A limited selection of dolls, clothes, etc. (Face it - stock costs a fortune)

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too? If that was the case, the BJD section would probably be somewhat limited, so probably not.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it?? Never been to one. I've been to places that sell doll supplies - wigs, eyes and so on, but the BJDs have always been absent.

    16. Would you go to it?
Yes, I'll go for sure, there's something like a bjd shop in my area but they have just a few things

What would you expect to find there?
Clothes, wigs, shoes, dioramas, supplies, etc.

What would you want it to have?
Probably a layaway system or something like that to afford some dollies.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
If it's doll related yes. (I mean, like warcrafts miniatures, mock-ups, something like that, but not comics, cosplays...)

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??Same than first question, it was little, like 6m2 they got a atelier inside but couldn't see it. They got just a few things of bjd but I can feel the hobby a little near thanks to this shop.

    17. Would you go to it?
      Absolutely!

What would you expect to find there?
Dolls, wigs, eyes, clothing, shoes, accessories, stands, customizing tools - all the items needed for this hobby.

What would you want it to have?
I would say everything, but to be more specific wigs, eyes, and clothing items.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
      Sure thing!

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
It was awesome, I went to the Volks USA store in California. I had a great experience and I would love to visit more stores like that.

    18. I would go to one! It would be nice to have a physical place to go and buy things and even just hang out. I wouldn't mind if it had other hobbies in it as well, like catering to more than just bjd's. It would help to see clothes with my own eyes too when buying, or being able to have the doll try them on.

    19. Would you go to it?
Maybe--I'm not so sure I like the idea. I'm a bit of a homebody.

What would you expect to find there?
I would expect to find a limited range of bjds from a limited range of companies, probably more if one was willing to special order. While not paying for shipping would be nice, the store would have to be the antithesis of most stores in my area: the shore owners would need to be pretty hands off (I really don't like interacting with store owners or "hovering," that tends to happen when one wants to purchase expensive items).

What would you want it to have?
I would love it to have common bjd accessories: eyes that I could see or try before purchase, small pattern fabric, lighter fabrics (lots of double gauze), modification supplies and tools, sealants, small and fine brushes, fine grit sandpaper, a resin swatch comparison board, etc.

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Definitely, although I'm not sure what other hobbies would go nicely--maybe toy models?

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
      Nope.

    20. Would you go to it?
Yes, and i went there last week

What would you expect to find there?
wigs, outfits and shoes for my girl

What would you want it to have?
I prefer more outfits for iplehouse doll and more yosd outfits

Would you be fine with it having other hobbies in there too?
Sure, it's very interesting to meet someone who has same hobby.

If you have been to a physical bjd store, how was it??
small store with tons of wig but no wig that can fit iplehouse SID
