1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I would love to buy more of them but I am just way too poor :( so I do a lot of sewing, and spend my hard earned savings on more dolls instead!

    2. :( I'm poor too, hahhaa. It'll be cheaper to sew. Though I feel sad that my doll will have to wear those sad looking clothes.....

Second hand clothes is an option for me :)

    3. I like to sew but I'm not really good at this.
So a create some of them and buy others. Second hand too...

    4. I make them. I own one bought piece of clothing (Iplehouse's Jubia Knit sweater) because I knew I'd not get my hands on fabric like that to make it myself :sweat One of the reasons why I got into the doll hobby was being able to make things for them, including their clothes :) It's fiddly, but so much faster and more rewarding than sewing human scale. Also I'm on a budget and I'd rather save up for more dolls.

    5. Hah, I wish I could make them myself, but my problem is not having enough focus to be productive at it. Maybe one day I'll be able to practice more, but for now I think I'm going to focus on faceups and getting good at those. So I'll just occasionally buy a small article of clothing here and there for my dolls (I just got my Dollshe Saint some shoes, yaaaaaaay!), because all of them have at least one outfit they can wear all the time.

    6. I do both: it's too complicated to make teeshirts and everything elastic, but it's simple to make a dress, a skirt...

    7. I make 95% of my doll clothes, that way I get exactly what I want for them. I have bought things like shoes, but that is only because the ones I made looked rubbish.

The best place to buy dolls clothes I find is Etsy. I just bought some mini print fabrics off of eBay, great for doll clothes.

    8. My boy is going to arrive naked, and I don't intend to buy any clothing for him. I'm going to sew all his clothes myself. :)

    9. I'd love to be able to buy some of the stuff I see but then there are times when I can't find what I want. I've made 90% of my dolls clothes with the exception of a few outfits and shoes of course. But there's something very satisfying about your dolls wearing something that you made with your own hands.

    10. I have to buy as I have tried sewing and let's just say that did not go to well. I totally wish I could sew!!!

    11. I prefer to make them but having minimal sewing skills is a bit of an issue ^^; That and my sewing machine just broke

    12. Sewing clothes small enough for my doll is a pretty big challenge for me at the moment, but I still think it's fun and I'm trying to do it more. I buy some of her clothes though, particularly blouses/shirts. I'm so bad at sleeves *_*

    13. Half and half. Simple things I'll sew, but most of my doll clothes are things I have bought. I've been messing around with some patterns I found though. It's pretty fun, although I'll muck up my attempts at doll clothes about half the time.

    14. I can sew, and pattern draft, but my eyes are very bad and am not sure I will be able to make my own clothing for the doll when he arrives. I don't think in cm's so I'll have to see when he gets here just how small the clothing will have to be, to see if I can make it myself. I think for to start, I would rather pay someone to make it for me.

    15. Right now I prefer to buy clothes, but then I alter them. For example I have recently bought a pj outfit for one of my dolls that doesn't fit him because it was made for a ken doll, but I am going to shorten the length of the arm sleeves and length of the shirt and voila! I also just got a msd sized v neck shirt used from a seller and I'm going to shorten it and use it. I might even make some sort of sewing/applique/graphic design on the front of the plain green v neck tshirt. That's what I like doing most. I just am not that talented as a seamstress so its my way right now.

    16. I'm so bad at sleeves too!! You aren't alone!

    17. I'd love to make all my clothes for my dolls... Though my sewing ability is a little lacking right now, so until I get some more practice, the clothes I make for them will be mostly sock-dress kinds of things.

But I also enjoy shopping for clothes for them... If only it were cheaper to ship stuff!

    18. I mostly make my own. Occasionally I'll buy something that I can't make (either because of supplies or skill, usually) but I'd like to buy an outfit or two when I get the money.

    19. I like both, but when I buy I like to buy handmade. Supporting small business (and local if possible) is very important to me. I do like sewing too, but ideally if there were people willing to trade handmade clothes for handmade accessories then I'd just stick to making jewelry as the sewing machine and I only get along about 10% of the time...

    20. Right now I solely buy all my clothing, but in the near future I do plan on learning to sew, so that I can eventually make my own stuff.
