It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

1. I sew pretty much everything myself.
I am very picky when it comes to fit, scale and details so I very rarely see any readymade clothing that I think I would be happy with. I have some clothes that I've bought from different companies in varying quality and they just don't do it for me. I rather make my own.

But I have sewn doll clothes for as long as I can remember and I sew most of my own regular clothes as well, so it's not a big deal to make bjd-clothes for me.
I am always very impressed when I see doll owners struggling to make things for their dolls, sometimes without any previous sewing experience at all in the beginning. These dolls are a great source of inspiration for trying out new crafts.

2. I prefer buying dolly clothes, I don't have time to do it myself. Also I don't know how to use the sewing machine I have yet. I will start sewing some things though, certainly when I get my LW Bonnie as I understand it's hard to find clothes for that body type.

3. I really like making my own dresses for my yosd doll but I hate making pants and shirts. Also, I really dislike hand sewing which is what I have to do for my tiny bjd. So both.

4. I prefer making clothes as long as I have the time to make them really well. :}

5. I would prefer to make my dolls' clothing, but alas, I am better at designing than sewing.

6. I can't sew so I prefer buying. x.x

7. Actually I never sew in my life, but I always want to learn! Buy a doll is what gave me the final push to get started <: I just know the basic, and I'm not so good, but I want to practice more and more to make a lot of dress for my future doll(s) ♥
...So yes, I prefer to do it :P also because I haven't find so many dress that I like on the internet ><

8. I think a little of both. I love to design clothes and love sewing, but there some beautiful clothes out there that I think would be next to impossible to make. I look at it this way, I make my dolls everyday clothes and buy her special occasion clothes..

9. I make a lot of clothes for my gang - I'd like to be able to buy more of the everyday stuff and make only the special outfits, but very few places make what I want to buy - My gang are mostly dressed as Victorian/Edwardian children, and most of the stuff that's made in that style is either manga/anime version (inaccurate - too short in the skirts, wrong style of sleeves etc), or in awful colours (grey - why is grey so popular!?) or materials (nasty synthetic lace - {shudder!!!}), as well as often being in a too mature style for my youngsters.

For the boys - well, it's almost impossible to find a pair of trousers with the waistband in the proper position - they're all modern low-waisted things. This is especially bad in suits where the trouser waist is so low and the bottom edge of the waistcoat is so high that there's a gap between them showing shirt.... Looks vile in modern suits, even worse in supposedly historical ones. The waistband of trousers should be completely hidden by the waistcoat and not JUST buy making the waistcoats longer but by raising the trouser waistband to the actual waist level of the wearer.

So, I'm pretty much stuck with sewing my own - despite not really having time to sew multiple outfits for over 30 BJD's.

10. Doll clothes are very expensive, near/same what normal clothes, so I prefer to do clothes myself. I have few clothes from some stores, mostly because I'm not good enough to make those myself.

But yeah, I want to do clothes myself. : D I'm such a stingy person.

11. I won't lie, it would be nice if I could buy all of my clothes :p But I'm kind of picky about what they wear (especially for my dolls who wear kimono) and I want to have some things for them that I can't find anywhere else (I have yet to see a proper maiko kimono ensemble or an Irish step dancing solo costume for BJDs), and of course there's the whole issue of sometimes finding what I want but it's not in the right size...So yeah, if I had the money and all the things I wanted for my dolls existed exactly the way I want them I might just buy all of their clothes, but that's not the case. Plus I actually do enjoy sewing, so I'm okay with making a lot of stuff for them.

12. I prefer to buy clothes. I hate sewing with a great, fiery passion. I would -like- to learn how to sew doll clothes though. It would make my life as a Lian owner much, much easier.

But! I see a ton of awesome clothes and talented seamster/esses out there already. Those people exist for a reason haha.

13. Definitely make them. I'm still waiting for my boy to arrive, but I've been buying so much fabric! I can't wait to get started on the outfits I have planned for him. :) I would probably buy a few bits if I saw anything that was suitable for him, but as an existing character, his outfits are kind of specific. The only thing I will buy, probably, are boots and shoes.

14. I'm going to do a lot of both, I'll make my own for certain unique outfits, as well as little stuff, but I'll probably buy a few more 'ordinary' outfits and accessories that I either don't feel like making (like shoes) or are cheap enough I don't mind the expense. I most certainly won't pay more for doll clothes than I would pay for my own though.

15. I prefer buying. I'm just not very good (at all) at sewing and my dolls don't look very good in the things I make. Occasionally I'll make a t-shirt or some undies but especially the big guys just look way better in bought clothes :)

16. For me, it really depends. Although I have never sewn doll clothes before, I am planning to start doing some simple sewing for my dolls, and possibly try selling em on the internet. Since I am still new, I am obviously not going to sell at the marketplace yet, so you would have to find me elsewhere.

If it is a REALLY complex thing, like full body suits (eg Evangelion plug suits.), then I would rather do a commission. If it is on sale, I would save up and buy it.

If what I find on sale is really cute, then I might throw my money for that.

17. The doll I'm getting has a unusual body shape/type, extra long arms and legs with extra joints in them,
so buying clothes might be hard, shoes might be difficult too, so i'm going to sew her some simple kimonos,
or loose clothing that would fit her.

18. I can't sew (clothes). I originally planned to learn from an Aunt i have who is a seamstress so I could make my own doll's clothes but that never worked out.

So for now, I shall be buying my dolls clothes.

19. I buy all the time, but I really really hoping someday I can sew them my creation:( cause I can't sew yet!

20. I buy all the time but I really really hoping someday I can sew my own creation to my dolls!
i need to learn how to sew now:(
