1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I do both. I love when i create it myself, but i also love what other people do!

    2. I would much rather buy.

      I'm terrible at sewing, and even if I wasn't, my self esteem issues would prevent me from showing anyone my work. So I would be working so hard making an outfit and wouldn't be able to display it in the end or be proud of it. ;A;

    3. For me, it really depends on the size of the doll and the complexity of the clothing. I don't like using my machine for anything on a small scale, so when I choose to sew for my Pukifee, it takes forever because I do everything by hand. If it's something that needs frequent adjustments throughout the sewing process, or has to be modeled on the doll frequently as I sew, I usually forgo the machine as well. I'm low on money a lot, so I like recycling my old clothes to make unique pieces for my dolls

    4. Lately, I make most of my clothes because right now, I can't afford to buy them. Plus, I need something to keep my hands busy, so why not hand-sew while I'm watching anime or TV? :)

But I DO still buy clothes as well, just not as much as I used to. More often than not, I see something on a website and say "I can make that, do I have the materials?" And then I make something that I like better!

    5. Bit of both depending what I want them to wear :) But I cant make complex things so I find close matches for those... My friend likes to practice making them clothes too XD

    6. I'm a buyer, 100%.

I'm not crafty, creative, and I can't draw to design my own stuff, so I'm doomed to just spending money on the beautiful creations of others.

      Mmm, shopping...

    7. I currently buy my dolls clothes as I cant sew and don't own a sewing machine. But I really would like to learn how to sew so that I can make clothes for my dolls in future. I think its a really nice thing being able to make your dolls clothes its more personal and unique. :)

    8. It depends. I love making clothes for my little group simply for the challenge of it but I'm not against buying outfits either. I usually reserve outfit buying to doll shows or conventions. Let's me see the size better and haggle a bit.

    9. I plan on making my doll her clothing, mostly because I work at a fabric store and I always see awesome styles all the time! :) I would buy clothes only if it seems cheaper than the fabric and time it would take to make it but 9/10 it's always seems cheaper to buy the fabric and make it myself :D

    10. ~ha~ For the most part I PREFER to make my own doll clothes - cheaper & exactly what I want. However, I'm the laziest person. Really. So I see something cool for not so much $$ I will buy it. Especially everyday wear rather than cosplay. Kinda the same for myself LOL
There are things out there I buy for the trappings/hardware - for stuff like tiny studs that I can't find anywhere. & some stuff is just sooooo labor intensive that I'll buy it even tho I can make it (I plan on making a few tailored suits - maybe 3 - but I've bought one Freedom Teller pricey tailored suit, just because...)
I'm much pickier about cosplay outfits - THOSE I pretty much want to make myself.

    11. I can't sew doll clothes but I will certainly knit for them!

    12. Man, I *wish* I could make my doll clothes! I'm not very handy with sewing. Everything I have was either bought or given to me by far craftier friends.

    13. I only make simple stuff for my dolls. Shirts and pants. If I wanted something fancier. I'd buy them clothes.

    14. I wish I could make them!!! So I buy for now....one day I'll attempt to make my own lol

    15. I recently acquired a sewing machine so I hope I'll be able to get proficient enough to make decent-looking clothes. Have no idea how I'd even begin making shoes though :s

    16. I would make them. It gives me an excuse to use my sewing machine, it's good practice for bigger sewing projects, and I can decide exactly what I want them to wear. For me, making the doll clothes is definitely the way to go. X3

    17. I usually buy them because, well, I don't have the time or the skills required to sew. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so chances are I would never be content with the stuff I sew myself. What's the point of stressing myself out? xP

    18. I would love to make more clothes, but I am not the best seamstress. I think my sewing machine hates me. Every time I try to use my machine it often doesn't turn out well, so until I take a sewing class I think I will be buying my clothes.

    19. If I could sew like the talented people at Volks or Dollmore.. I would so make my own.. but I'm at the mercy of what I can keep in my shopping care while checking out ;)

The only problem with buying clothes other than their price.. is that you have to keep your personal taste out of it.. bc your girls or boys might turn their nose up at something and it will be a costly lesson. :...(

I just wish there were more long dresses for MSD sized girls.

    20. ^^ I prefer to make clothes..It's a little cheaper and I can recycle my old clothes to make new duds for my dolls.
