1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. Both!
I stopped sewing for myself because my closet is about to explode >.<, but that's what dolls are for ^-^
I'm sewing a lot for my dolls if I can, easy stuff like leggings, shirts, skirts...rarely difficult stuff. But sometimes I'm too lazy or I'm discovering an awesome cloth wich is hard to make...then I'm buying it :)

    2. My doll came with 2 outfits but I've made everything since then, I want to do a mix of both but I'm having trouble finding anything to buy it just doesn't seem to suit the personalty of my doll.

    3. I think that I definitely have to sew more than I buy. Not only is it more economical but this way I can make matching clothes for me and my doll! So cute!!!
I agree with Little Sen; I have a very hard time finding anything that suits the personality of my doll.
I also think I'm a little strange because I mostly hand sew everything. I feel like I do a much better job that way, somehow!

    4. I've made clothes for myself, but am scared to make clothes for my BJD when she arrives... So I've looked at cute MSD clothes online. I would have to say I'd rather buy clothes for now!

    5. I prefer to make - but since I am not very good and hopelessly lazy... I tend to waste a lot of money on clothes. The down side of it is - They never ever seem to have ENOUGH to wear.

    6. I really do not have the talent or patience to make my dolls clothes. I'm also very very particular when it comes to my own creations and I know I would never be happy as happy with my things as I would if the same thing was made by someone else. I'm content buying them clothes from people with a bit more talent and time then me.

    7. I'd prefer to make if I can learn to sew. The problem is carving out the time! My one doll is an Iplehouse and I have vaguely gotten the impression that they're a bit odd to shop for? Also, I want to try designing my own stuff, or at least pick the colors myself. :) It'll be a fun hobby once I get some work stuff cleared out. Shapeless smocks, here I come!

    8. I'd have to buy them, because I have no idea how to sew XD

    9. A bit of both, I guess? Some people have such a knack for fashion design and their clothes are beautiful and I love to support that! But I also have ideas myself that I would like to see come to life. Unfortunately, though I think I'm talented artistically, I'm not so much in the seamstress field. :(

    10. I try to sew a few things, I need some more practise, but it's getting better with every piece. I dont really like to buy, you need to wait for it and you dont get to see if you like it on your doll first, and they're expensive. I may buy some clothes if they sell it at a stand in a cosplay convention or something. Then I can take it home right away

    11. I love learning how to do new things - I learned how to sew for myself a few years ago, so I can't wait for my girl to come in so that I can start working on outfits for her. I think there are still things I'd purchase for her, but for the most part, I'd like her to have unique things I've only made for her. :D

    12. Buy for now, I have no skills to make clothes for them!! If I attempted it, I'd only be let down with myself :)

    13. I prefer to make the clothes, even though I'm really bad at it... It's an opportunity to learn and improve, right? :)

    14. I actually prefer on making my own doll clothes so no problem won't arise (mismatch color or material, too small or big, etc)

However my hand sewing is lower than average for now and I don't have any sewing machine to learn how to use it. Practice make perfect though, still sometimes I feel like to buy some nice clothes. There're so much nice clothes out there and I hope I can be awesome seamstress soon ;)

    15. I love sewing and figuring out patterns for unique things, but I just don't have the time and patience for sewing anymore. -3-

Lately, I just buy clothes. I'll make simple things still, like socks, but that's about it for now.
I'll likely get back into it once I'm more settled down with more time.

I really want an SD version of my KDF's Volk's outfit. xD
Pretty much have to make it myself.

    16. i do both. i love to sew for my kids but i also i also like to support individual sellers if they have well made stuff, so i like shopping on etsy too. i tend to prefer good value over cheap so i'm more likely to buy something like a good pair of ttya jeans (something i couldn't be bothered making myself) or something really unique rather than stuff just 'cause the price is low. and boots/shoes now those are my big down fall! my kids have more shoes than i have, and i'm not even tempted to try and make those right now.

    17. I'd prefer to make my own, but I'm not a good seamstress and I like my dolls looking nice! Maybe one day I'll improve my skills but I frankly don't think I'll be making their clothes any time soon...there are too many talented people on here and etsy I'd rather buy from. ^^

    18. I prefer to do both, I like to have at least one well made outfit so I can compare my work to it.
Making your own outfit means you have have exactly what you want.

    19. I'm planning to do both. I will buy if I have money and I find something that suits. But I also want to make something myself, since there just aren't all types of clothes I'd like to have. And I want to test some patterns in smaller scale before making them to myself, and making them for BJD is great practice, I think.

    20. I love making clothes and my dolls will have so unique style that finding perfect clothes would be difficult. BUT I also buy clothes, like normal pants and shirts. There are couple sets that I really wanna buy but honestly I think it's gonna be so much cheaper to make them (and then I get exactly what I want).
