1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I'm going to say the same thing I commented on the thread about making face-ups versus commissioning them: I much rather sew my doll's clothes myself. ^^ I'm not too good at it, but I am slowly getting better! The feeling when I notice that I've gotten better at something doll-related is simply awesome. ~~
And by doing my doll's clothes and face-ups myself the dolls feel much more my own. ^^

    2. Create clothes - interesting, but takes time. Buy clothes - interesting, but takes money))) and time too (if you buying through internet)
I think that mix this 2 ways is the best way)))

    3. I enjoy sewing for my dolls, but it takes time that I don't always have to spend on it. Plus there are some things it's just easier to buy than make myself. So count me in the mix of both category.

    4. I would really love to be able to make all the clothes I need for my dolls, but I just don't have the skills yet. So for now I buy most of their clothes, but I do make things too. As my skills improve I'm hoping I will make more and buy less...

    5. Until I learn how to sow I'm stuck with having to buy. Onsite and secondhand when I can.I would love to sow my clothes more then buy though.

    6. I like both, it will depend on what want and what I can do ^^

    7. I would love to know how to make clothes myself! I could customizer as I please and be sure they would fit the doll perfectly.... but i have no talent for that so ==> buy

    8. Unfortunately no chance of making my own I wouldn't know where to start. It's cost me a fortune to buy but it is my only option. But who knows maybe one day ha yeah right who am I kidding.

    9. I prefer to make clothes. One of the things I love best about this hobby is the high level of customization you can give to your doll. However there are some outfits I would rather buy too.

    10. I love sewing and my favourite thing to do when life gets stressful is to sew for my dolls, so I make most of their clothes- gbut I hate making shoes so I always buy those- and most of their sportswear is purchased too.

    11. I prefer making them, as it assures a better fit (and more monies saved :sweat)
However, I do like having company clothing to study construction techniques.

    12. I would love to be able to sew, but as it is sewing machines hate me, and no matter what I do it always tends to tangle/break the needle/kill my fabric etc, so yeah, only way is by hand but then it takes forever and the seams doesn't get as pretty and advanced stuff are nightmares... So I'm stuck with buying :/ (not that I mind, they're gorgeous, just a little expensive >.<)

    13. Buying gets expensive but they are usually much better quality than I can make. I like to do both though :D

    14. I would love to be able to make my own clothes, but my sewing skills are terrible. Probably because I have no patience at all, haha. If I would set my mind to it, I'm sure I'd be able to make something. I don't like buying clothes, because they're so expensive, so if I do I try to buy them secondhand. I'm lucky to have a seamstress as my little sister and she wants to make clothes for my dolls so she can practice her skills. She's a natural when it comes to sewing, so she might even make more doll clothes and sell them.

    15. I shop for clothes for my doll and see the pricetag attached to a lot of items, then I say $#%* it and am making plans to sew her things. I can buy the fabric for far less than what a single outfit may cost. ^^;

    16. I sew all clothes my self :) I like to do everything i can, so i have made wigs and shoes too :) And pencils, books, headphones, jewelrys, furnitures and lots more :)

    17. I definitely am a buyer, but would love the ability to sew clothes...if not just for one doll, who I can never find the right stuff for....:(

    18. I like to buy and sew my own clothes. Its fun to create new outfits or even make props. In some ways I save a lot of money doing my own clothing. I am just not really good at making shoes yet. I always buy those. Sometimes, I would rather buy things if the doll is harder for me to sew for. I have more trouble designing outfits for dolls that are not proportionately constructed.

    19. I would honestly prefer to make my own clothes. BJD clothes are so expensive most the time I feel like it would benefit me more if I could make them.
Which I'm trying to work on. However, for now I'm stuck buying them. Haha. Soon enough I'll get working on my own. C:

    20. I would love to be able to sew clothing for my doll, but unfortunately I don't have any experience with sewing things and would probably fail miserably :( I would rather just buy the beautiful clothes that other talented people make, right now Etsy is my favorite place to get doll clothing ^^
