Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I have zero experience sewing but I really want to use this hobby to get myself psyched and motivated to learn how to sew and do photography.

I'm going to buy things I know are completely out of my skill reach like shoes and wigs, but I want to try as best I can to sew my own cute dresses. I'm thinking I'll start from the very basics like a sock dress and a cardboard couch then work my way up from there. One of the things I'm looking forward to the most are the sewing challenges here at DoA.

    2. I would prefer that Santa deliver them into my living room......

    3. I like to buy the clothes. If I have time, I prefer to make the clothes. Another case would be is if my doll has weird measurements and the chances of the clothes I buy for him/her not fitting is too high. Otherwise, I'm too lazy to make them! I tend to get too ambitious. I hate making the patterns... Then my sewing machine just eats up the tiny fabric... It's frustrating! So yeah....

    4. I still don't know if I should first buy some clothes or start to try to sew my own clothes after the doll is here, but I try to sew my own clothes sooner or later for sure. :)

    5. I honestly would love to make all my dolls choths but i dont know how to sew and sometimes materials are more expensive than buying an premade item - plus sometimes patters are as expensive as cloths itself...wich sucks u.u

So while i am learning how to sew and getting patterns and matterials , i tend to look for good prices in clothing online so my dolls are not naked and what not

Yet if one day i manage to sew profesionally, i will still buy them things , cause hey theres always somethings that you cant make yourself ^^

    6. I really prefer to my doll's clothing, no doubt about it. That's not to say I wouldn't absolutely adore having the skill to be able to sew them amazing outfits myself, and I do so envy the abilities of others out there who have poured so much of their time and effort into such an amazing craft. But I've learned long ago that sewing is just not a hobby I have any sort of patience for whatsoever.

It's really not for lack of trying, I took sewing classes in high school, joined the sewing group in 4-H, and throughout college still attempting to teach myself through sewing books and youtube videos. But all in all, I wind up so utterly frustrated by the terrible end product that I wind up hating the entire learning process. Personally, I have a few other creative hobbies, and while I'm not fantastic at them, I still get quite a lot of enjoyment simply by learning and noticing my small areas of improvements. Sewing, sadly, is just not one of those hobbies. So I will continue to purchase and commission them clothes, and apply my skills and focus elsewhere.

    7. I do both. Buy nice clothes when I see them. Make some when I feel like it. I mostly make lingerie for my girls and tees for my boys

    8. I like to make clothes even though I'm not very good at them ;~;
For example, I only buy things that I cant make such as accessories/props/shoes. I've been taught to hand-sew things at a very young age so I'm pretty adequate at that, I'd like to think.

    9. Buy... i really want to make the clothes my self , but i hate the Sewing machine

    10. I love sewing, I prefer to make clothes myself.

    11. At this point, I would pay someone to make me a pattern so that I can try sewing. Learning both sewing and adjusting a pattern seems insurmountable. :( Of course, I haven't even gotten up the courage to cut pattern pieces yet!

    12. I always buy my doll clothes. I really don't have to patience or the time to make the over-the-top outfits that I like. Plus my skill isn't that great, and all of the materials would be mega expensive. Even more expensive then the clothes themselves, so I'll just stick to buying my stuff.

    13. I would prefer to make my own doll clothes, though I have to learn how to sew first :sweat I just feel that you have more control over your doll's appearance that way, plus I enjoy making things.

    14. I'm just starting out in the hobby, and I've bought some clothes for my first doll, but ultimately I'm looking forward to be able to create my own clothes- I've completed a fashion course and had a few years of sewing experience before that from cosplay. ;)

    15. One of the reasons I got into this hobby was to better my sewing skills, so I'm going to be trying to make all her clothes instead of buying them. I have patterns that I purchased already, and a little experience with a sewing machine even if it's nothing spectacular so far, so we'll see how it goes! I really tend to get picky, and I love putting colours together for outfits (I work in clothing retail and it's my favourite part of the job!), so this seemed like the best route. I'm planning on a lot of pretty lace and old dresses, but I'm also planning on doing some fantasy style outfits from a video game I used to play a lot for a secondary theme.

    16. God I wish I could sew. I always know just what I want in my head but generally I can never find what is in my head!

    17. I make my clothes. I start with something simple, so she is not just hanging about, naked. Then I can take my time and make something more elaborate. I do buy shoes, though. They are adorable and hard to make when they are so tiny.

    18. I'd love to make my own but I don't see anything wrong with both!

    19. I'm a buyer. I wish I could sew really well as I have amassed a mountain of fabric that I like.

    20. I'm sewing and buying also, because I don't take much time to sew (and I do not have much either).
