1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. Make them! Then I can make the style, color, and decoration suit the doll it's for.

    2. If I can find clothes for her that are super cheap, then I'd buy them. Otherwise I make the clothes. Which is usually what I prefer. Its more fun and less $$. :)

    3. Well, initially I made everything for my bjd's. It was a great feeling of accomplishment when I was done, but I must say that I also love clothing from dollheart and other bjd companies too. I've also gotten some pretty well made pieces from sellers on Etsy that I think are awesome. Overrall, I'm happy with having a mix in my collection. As much as I would like to make everything and be able to say that I made it all myself, I know realistically I'll never have the time to make everything and I also realize that there are people out there with skills that I don't have that I'm happy to pay them to make for me ;) Anyway, I feel like this is turning into a long rambley post, but I hope it wasn't too boring >_<

    4. I prefer to make clothes. I may not be the most talented seamstress, but I'll save more money in the long run doing it myself, and then I don't have to worry about shipping cost and commissioning outfits that aren't easily available. Everything is made specifically to my personal tastes. I also feel "closer" to my dolls when I make things for them. Shoes are a different story :sweat

    5. If I were blessed with the talent and coordination to sew clothes for my dolls I would never buy another thing from a dolly seller. I would spend all my time sewing for them. Alas I am stuck having to buy things, for now. Maybe someday I'll buy myself a sewing machine and give it a try.

    6. I wish I could be able to sew doll's clothes on my own because of how much they are expensive or not so well done in the market. Unfortunately I have two left hands so it's more difficult than I thought. But I am determined to try to sew something that I will be proud of for my girl this summer.

    7. My first (and only but not going to be only for long) doll has had her clothes made for her. n.n Mainly because of budget reasons. I am not amazing at sewing.... yet ;) but soon I'll be able to make them really cool things. Again, I will buy them some cool clothes because my skills only go so far. :/ I mainly made mine clothes because otherwise she'd be naked... :< So yeah. n.n That's my answer.

    8. Unfortunately I can't make it all alone:pout: That's why I prefer to buy clothes and remodel it.

    9. One of the main reasons I bought a doll was for designing the clothing. I make human sized costumes/fashion/cosplays, so I really wanted to try my hand at small scale to test pattern and the like. Less fabric, and I get a lovely costume to either keep or sell. Not to mention dolls are gorgeous...

There has been the time when I REALLY wanted to buy an outfit... (Soom's biweekly...), but have talked myself out of it thinking I could try to make something similar myself. I'll save the picture for reference, and use it as an inspiration to design my own (I don't want to outright copy...) I also bought a doll with fantasy feet, so I wouldn't be tempted to buy shoes :)

    10. I'd say it depends .. If I see something truly perfect, I'd rather buy it than try to create something similar. It might just end up making me frustrated. If I can't find anything I like, I'd rather make my own. If I take my time, and have fun with it, it goes great.

    11. Since I don't have a sewing machine, I buy the clothes. >. < I'd love to try making a few things but I'm not sure if I'd be satisfied with the result.

    12. If money was no object, I'd purchase clothes all the clothes I wanted. However, after spending [insert large dollar amount] on a doll, I really just do not have the monetary means to buy beautiful outfits and such. I have experience with sewing though, so it's not a big deal. Sewing is a good pass time, and I love to come up with my own designs :) Plus, my boy is a cross dresser, so most dresses (or other attire intended for female dolls) will not fit him!

    13. I prefer both buying them from companies and making by myself. Some official clothes are made very fine and detailed (My favorite one is Doll Heart :XD:) and material from official clothes are more various and some are beautiful which I can't find in normal market. But I also enjoy to sew clothes because I can design and do as I want. And it's good for killing boring time too.

    14. I prefer to buy clothes since I can't sew.

    15. I have to make the doll clothes by myself, because I am too greedy to buy it:lol:

    16. I don't know how to make clothes, so I buy:)

    17. Sometimes there are things I really want to buy, but I think I'm gonna have to make the majority of clothes myself (excluding things like shoes which I just buy) because doll clothes are too expensive for me right now D: One day my boy might get some nice clothes bought for him, but for now making things myself will have to do. On the other hand, I do have some characters planned that I actually can't wait to sew for since their outfits are kind of particular and look like they'd be a lot of fun to make :)

    18. I will also say that it depends on it.
Since most of my crew has a different or rather specific dress style I am really limited in buying things. I keep my eyes open though and if I find something I can use I will buy it. For the rest of the time I make things myself, or at least try it.
It's fun and keeps my occupied :)

    19. So, i'm doing this thread because it came to my attention that most people like to buy clothes for their dolls. But i was thinking... what if people buy clothes for their dolls but want to make them instead? I know when i first receive my baby she had her default outfit, as much as i was happy with her outfit i felt the need to learn to make mine as to save money. What is your preference? Buy or make?. im sorry if there is a thread like this existing, i have not found it yet :o but do tell, i would like to see what other people think about this subject ^^

    20. Make them ^^ teeheheheheh
