1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. In the beginning I was thrilled above excited when I had an occasion to buy a new piece of clothing or some accessories for my doll. It made me perfectly happy ;) But it changed in time. I realised that I appreciate things - even very simple - when I make/craft them myself. First there was a crochet. But it wasn't enough. So I followed my heart, bought a sewing machine and started to learn - in my middle thirties - sewing. I'm doing pretty well right now, you know, it gives me much joy. And that's what counts, in my opinion.

    2. I've only ever boutght a couple pieces of clothing, and it's always been at the same time I bought the doll so they would have something to wear home from the doll shop-yep, I'm lucky enough to be able to buy BJD things IRL!! Everything else I've made myself, even a couple wigs, and I'm proud to say I'm getting much better at sewing than my first few clumsy attempts.

    3. I got into BJD specifically to make clothes for them. I want to make mini cosplays! :D

    4. Both, actually. Sometimes it's easier for me to make the outfits because I can't find the ones I want, and then on the other side, I buy something that is a bit more complicated for me to make, or I don't feel like making it haha.

    5. I have absolutely no sewing abilities, and anything I make turns to miss shaped fabric blobs. :pout: So I prefer not to make stuff, plus I find online shopping can be fun. (My poor wallet!:...()

    6. As I only have one dollie for now, I'm actually sewing the clothes by hand (hehehe...I don't know how to use a sewing machine) Also the type of clothes that I would like her to wear doesn't seem to be available often online (medieval/renaissance theme). I seen two different sets on Volks' website, but they were sold out and the price for them were too beyond what I would like to spend on dollie clothing. So I used some clothes that fit the color theme I was going for and it myself.

    7. I'd prefer to make mine because I'm kind of a perfectionist and if I know I can do something then I'll do it rather than pay for something that may or may not work out for my doll.

    8. For me I prefer to buy them because I do not know how to sew lol. And idk it just seem so much work just to make an outfit. I tried sewing I'm not good at it. But when I see other people homemade clothes for their dolls they are amazing. Ahhh I wish I had sewing skills like that.

    9. I make my own, that way I know they fit and are exactly what I was looking for. I hated ordering something only to find out the garment wouldn't fit my large bust female or were too long in the legs for the shorter of the boys...sigh. This way I can pick the color, fabric and design that is perfect for each! Plus some of the fabrics I like would be out of the question to buy a ready made garment that uses it, WAY too expensive that way. Making my own I can save money while using better fabric! Just buy 1 yard of the good stuff and put a little sweat equity into it, the same garment would be hundreds of dollars to buy it ready made.

    10. I can knit and crochet so have made a few sweaters so far. I really want to learn to sew better so I can make tops, pants and dresses. I think I'll always buy doll jeans, though.

    11. I really like making clothes. When I order a larger doll I usually buy an outfit. For small dolls I always make an outfit. It's sometimes hard to find what you want already made and I don't like waiting for clothes so I can usually whip something up. Right now I'm making a bow, arrows and a quiver I saw on Froggy Stuff. I just ordered a DOllZone Dale and will make her first outfit.

    12. Buy at the moment but I'm teaching myself how to sew also so eventually I plan on making all of them.

    13. I like learning to sew and teaching myself and figuring out, but when I do that (which is how my dolls get most of their wardrobe) I can't help but see everything wrong with the pieces... so I prefer to buy clothes when I can

    14. Ha. Id PREFER to make them, as I'd get to make things just the way I want. I tend to pick odd sized dolls that are hard to shop for too... so there's that. But I can't sew for beans so I'm stuck just buying clothes.

    15. I love to make them clothes

    16. I loved to crochet and knit long before I had bjds. When I try to sew doll clothes I sew them by hand. It's more relaxing :) .
I also always need existing patterns for sewing. It's so difficult for me to make patterns ! I admire people who can make them ! I hope one day my sewing skills will improve !

    17. If I had the money I would love to buy them, but I also love sewing because it's fun and ... it's a great feeling when things turn out well.

    18. Although I'd love to buy them, I usually end up making my own because of cost or because no one makes what I want in the size I need, or what I want in general. I trade for clothes when I can, too.

    19. I honestly would rather buy them because a lot of artisans are much more skilled than I am. But due to monetary issues, I usually make my own clothing. Hopefully I can get a sewing machine so I can make some more complex pieces !

    20. Hmm I would have to say that I would buy my stuff. I am not good at sewing. :pout:
