It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. If I had the time, I would definitely love to make my own doll clothes. Since I don't, I settle for buying them. For now...heheh~

    2. So far I've only bought clothes as I'm not much of a sewer. But I've been having trouble finding the style of outfit I want for my next BJD in his size, so I'm considering making it myself. Not sure how it'll turn out, but I'll probably give it a shot.

    3. I would prefer to make clothes for them instead of buying them all clothes. But as I'm not really talented at sewing, I don't really have choice unfortunately. I already tried to sew some simple clothes for some of my dolls but I really need to try to improve cause I'm not so good. ^^'

    4. I really want to learn how to sew doll clothes, but I am such a perfectionist that my limited skills and resources would really hinder me.

    5. I have attempted to sew some simple things but they didn't turn out well so for now I'll buy.

    6. Love to make one if I could.... so preferred buying! :) ^_^

    7. So far, I've made all my doll clothes. I find it relaxing, because it's so much easier than sewing for people! A complete doll project takes a fraction of the time it takes for a person-sized outfit. And if you make a mistake, you generally haven't wasted much money. As others have said, it's nice not having to worry about fit, since my only doll is a slim MSD type. Wish I could knit and crochet like some here.

    8. I've always wanted to be able to make my dolls clothes. Only recently have I really started working with a sewing machine (since I have prior hand sewing knowledge, but it took far longer and wouldn't look as nice.) I love making their clothes now! I'm practicing so that I can make more detailed outfits in the future but I'm so happy with what I've done so far! I think it not only is a fun and nice way to get your dolls to look exactly as you'd like, but it also saves money to do it yourself then to buy it somewhere!

    9. I make casual clothes and buy stuff that needs to be more tailored like suits. x_x freedomteller and sadoll get my money. My sewing skill is not at that level yet.

But I do sometimes sew formal wear if I can't find anything anywhere. No one sells Downton Abbey clothes. :(

    10. I would prefer to make them! But that isn't an option right now.

    11. I plan to make them myself! My doll's budget is rather tight so I'd rather to spend them to get new dolls likely XD!

    12. All of my BJD's are like... Slim I now realize, so buying clothes/shoes has been an interesting battle, shoes for the MSD's easy enough - In keychain sneakers we trust (and they look cute to boot) clothes though I actually am finding myself prefering to make. I've found some really nice affordable ready made stuff (one of my girls has a kimono I bought from someone at a meet) But I like sewing since it makes me use my hands, and it also is more of a guarentee that yes those pants will fit my MSD who has wide hips, or that it will fit my Resinsoul Bei with her double jointed body's freaky measurements. Wigs, I've decided LOLNOPE, but I've even been learning to make jewelry so I'm more confident...Heck, I like sewing with hard to sew fabrics like satin. It's a challenge and a fun one!

    13. Probably both! I work at a fabric store so getting fabrics and patterns is super easy since I know when the sales and coupons are available :D But then again I'm also lazy when it comes to sewing lmao

    14. Hmm...I would say I prefer to make clothes for my boy, I like the process of sewing and making designs. However when it comes to shoes I would prefer to buy instead of making them from scratch (also depending on complexity of making it).

    15. I'm a crafty person and can knit and crochet, but some things look better sewn and I need a new sewing machine. I'm thinking my doll's wardrobes will mostly consist of sweaters and dresses I knit or crochet, and leggings and shoes I buy.

    16. If I was better at sewing I would definitely try to make them and would prefer it that way since I could get the exact look im going for. However im still practicing sewing and will hopefully take some classes soon to better my skill so I can just make them clothes instead of buy them. But until then, buying is the way to go if I want good quality clothes :P

    17. I am not a good sewer, and I still like to buy things I can't make. However, if I can make something, I prefer to do it myself.

    18. I prefer to buy since I'm not very good at sewing. Maybe dolls will motivate me to finally learn how to sew. xD I don't feel a huge loss though, since there's some amazingly talented doll clothes makers on places like Etsy who I'm always happy to support.

    19. I prefer to make them myself. It's lovely to see my doll in clothes I designed for his character. ^^

    20. I enjoy sewing, I find it relaxing. It's also something I do with my sister. I feel like practice makes perfect, so even though I'm not very good I can definitely see that I'm improving. I do, however, also buy clothes if I see something that I really like and lack the skill level to sew. With that said, I've only bought two outfits, one for me and one for my sister. Otherwise, I'm more likely to sew clothes because there's more adventure in it for me.
