Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I make all my doll clothes for everyone but my tinies so far. I get a lot of satisfaction and pride out of it. And I can make complete mix and match wardrobes. :3 Amiga's entire wardrobe is one complete set, and I could add more and it would still work!

    2. I'm the worst seamstress in history, so I buy the clothes to improve in the seam :XD:

    3. I would prefer to buy than to make.

    4. I've tried to buy clothes. I've sewed a few and even used some of the no-sew tutorials here!
I definitely prefer to sew my clothing, I'm teaching myself at a steady rate. I was proud of producing skirts with a quality I could boast! I see myself buying clothing if it's suits my dolls especially when it's from another artist.

    5. My girls are tiny so I'd rather buy them....

    6. I'd love to make mine, but unfortunately I'm stuck with just buying them, as I cannot sew to save my life.

    7. all the clothing my dolly has right now are handmade. I don't really like the idea of spending more money on clothing for a doll than myself. for really, really high quality items that I'm not as comfortable making (heavy winter jackets, thin nylons) then I fiddle around with the idea of buying them clothes. Other than that, I also make a lot of my own props and accessories, but there are just some that I have to buy because I just don't have those materials to make them myself XD.

I just really like being crafty.

    8. I think I prefer buy clothes ( ex :Luts, crobidoll) or Make them do by somebody ^^
I not good to sew, I think the clothes of the company are more beautiful and fit better in the BJD :)

    9. I would like to be able to make them... but it's funny to buy them, anyway ! :)

    10. At the moment, I prefer to buy clothing. But, I do look forward into getting into making my own clothing for my dolls. I think if I see the perfect outfit already made, I would buy it over making it, due to the limitations of my skills at the moment. I probably will always buy shoes.

    11. if i could make clothes well for my doll, i would make it because i would know that i made the clothes myself and i could completely customise the clothes to my doll and that would be cool

    12. A little bit of each? I don't really know how to sew well (I did make a pillow once though! Forever proud of that, haha), but my mom does and I've already informed her she's gonna have to teach me a few things for when I have my girl. It seems like a fun thing to do, even if it won't look as professional, I'm sure I'd be proud of my work and plus that way I can make clothes I normally wouldn't find for sale. On the other hand there's some really gorgeous outfits that I'd really like to get too so my doll's closet, once I have her, is probably going to be partly bought and partly made. Balance is good!

    13. I would love to, but i think i will just stick with buying clothes for them instead of making. Not to mention the skills, i just like the feelings of online shopping, and besides, the clothes would also fit them better ~ =]]

    14. I got my first doll with every intention of sewing my own clothes for her, and I have made a few pieces that I'm very proud of, but after buying a complete outfit nothing I've made seems to live up to my expectations. I know I'd get better with more practice, but I got discouraged and it's just so much easier to buy clothes.

    15. Interesting question!

Personally, I do prefer making some if the casual clothes for my dolls, like comfy long-sleeve sweaters and leggings. I have so many cute fabrics, I can do whatever combo I want.

However, when it comes to button shirts, jeans, and nicely detailed dresses and jackets, I prefer shopping for Volks, Nine9style, etc pre-made clothes.

    16. i like to make my own. i love the original clothing and like to keep that safe and protected as part of the original doll package, but i love love love knitting and sewing for my little ones (properly proportioned and knitted on micro needles)asfor me this is part of my love of collecting, and i can choose exactly what i want to make. i taught myself to knit using youtube, and collecting and writing my own patterns are a really enjoyable extension of my bjd hobby (obsession).

    17. I'd prefer to make them myself, but I'm totally hopeless at sewing. So for now I think I'll just stick with buying...

    18. I'd prefer to make them myself. My grandma is teaching me to sew, so hopefully I'll be able to make something simple to practice, but until then I'll have to buy a couple outfits so they aren't naked.

    19. I'd prefer to make them myself, since sometimes it's difficult to find the kind of cothes I want... But I'm terrible at sewing, and I don't think I've ever finished a piece. I should try again, haha.

    20. I intend on making all my dolls their clothes myself. With one exception that each gets one bought outfit. That way they don't sit around naked while I struggle with the difficult clothes that cross my fantasy! I find it more personal when they wear something I made for them. They feel truly mine when they wear something from fabric I choose, with patterns I made or adjusted. Giving the clothing my own touch. I even make my own shoes! Well for dollies ofcourse, if I could actually make my own shoes I would be having a loooooot of more money in my pockets and so much less empty space in my closet xD

I guess it's the same thing some have with bonding with their doll by giving it a face-up themselves.
I must admit there is lots of adorable clothing out there and it's hard to keep myself from not buying it! But like I said, seeing my little dollies in clothing I made, really makes me feel proud and it makes them more 'my' personal dolls. I'm crappy with sewing tho, but practice really pays off in the end!
