1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. I buy when I find things that will work for them without breaking my budget, but often I just can't find exactly what I'm looking for so I make a lot of their clothes, too. I have an ages-old fabric hoard to pull from (though not all work for doll sewing, a lot does) and a patient workhorse of a machine. I like that I can often sew a garment, and sometimes a full outfit if I've planned ahead properly, in an evening when I'm in the mood, and I like to keep several projects cut and ready to sew when time presents itself.

    2. I try not to buy clothes unless it's for some sort of special reason, or if it's something I can't make. The rest of the time I prefer to knit or crochet my dolls' clothes. Haven't mastered the fine art of sewing just yet! :wiggle

    3. I like to both buy and create. Though I am not very good a sewing, I usually end up making a lot of the headdresses, epic jewelry and some of the more simple clothing for my bjds.

However addicted to buying kimono, yukata and hakamas.... XD

    4. I like sewing. But for anything smaller than 1/4 I'd HATE to sew. So, buy buy buy it is!

    5. Make them, even when my sewing skills are poor haha. They're very expensive for me to buy, I rather use that money to buy clothes for myself

    6. I have traditional sewing skills, but I'm the laziest tailor who ever lived. Aside from mending my own clothes and modifying the occasional costume piece or doll/human wig, the only doll-specific sewing I've ever done outside of a few accessories are a couple of test faux fur wigs. But I save a crudton of money doing my own faceups...being able to sew my own clothes would be a huge boon. Not to mention that I could get them to look nearly any way I wanted. If only hand sewing didn't take forever...sewing machines are noisy monstrosities to my poor elf ears. And they can eat your fingers if you're not careful.

    7. I've been trying to learn how to sew ever since I got my first doll. Well, i actually tried sewing for my best friends Yosds and it wasn't so bad, but sewing for MSD has been a pain and a half. Im stuck buying clothes until i can figure it all out, but I'd really rather sew them myself.

    8. I have a zillion ideas for clothes I want to make and decades of hoarded fabric, but still have not done much. So if my dolls want clothes I better buy them some until I can get my act in gear. LOL

    9. I hope I can level up my sewing because I have so many dress plans for my dolleh

    10. Oh gosh, I find myself making clothes much more often then buying them (shoes aside). My doll is also weirdly proportioned, so making clothing is an "easy" way to make nice clothes that fit well.

I believe if you have the patience, your dolls can (not always) look more put together if you sew the clothes yourself, then if you buy stuff online.

    11. I really wanna make clothes for my dolls, but.. I've no talents..:(

    12. I wish I had the skills to make my dolls clothes but everything I make looks hodge-podge and strange :D

    13. I tend to buy the clothes for my dolls if I can find the pieces that I want, and sometimes it works out cheaper to buy them. If I can't find something, and can't see a certain character in any other outfit, the only option then is to make it and that is also fine with me. It's personal choice at the end of the day

    14. Unfortunately I have to buy everything because I can't sew... at all... my hands start sweating just thinking about it. ;)

    15. I prefer to buy clothes only because I can't sew very well. When my skills improve, I'll probably make some but still buy certain items

    16. I really want to make clothes for my dolls especially since I often aim for the fantasy look and have trouble finding exactly what I want online. Unfortunately, the only thing I know about sewing is whatever I learnt back in school... which wasn't a lot :sweat

    17. I am not sure if I have replied to this thread previously or not. I am an expert seamstress , with over 30 years of experience, so I sew all of my doll's clothes. Oh, except if I fall in love with a doll that only comes as a full set, or occasionally Freedom Teller has something I can not resist. Their craftsmanship is so very good.

    18. Buying as im not very skilled. But I plan to make one putfit myself as it is just a skimpy cat outfit.. Just a tail, ears and a sort of furry bra plus furry undies..

I hope i will be able to make that ^^" but yeah im not very good at such things so thats why i prefer buying. If i would be good at it and get skilled id prefer making as it gives some satisfaction and specialness

    19. Making, sure
but they always werent as what ive expected T_T

    20. Buy them.

I would like to learn to sew clothes for my BJD, but now is not the time. It's just not convenient for me right now.
