1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Would you prefer to... Buy clothes or make them?

Mar 12, 2013

    1. The hobby has inspired me to learn how to sew!
I've always wanted to learn but too afraid to mess up and waste all that fabric, so doll size is perfect for me!
Also it's very difficult to find pieces that match what I'm looking for so what better way to remedy that problem than making them myself!

    2. I've tried and tried many times to sew some items for my girls but I just can't do it :| I would love to be able to make my own outfits but I've just accepted the fact I can't sew and I just buy everything now lol :XD:

    3. I prefer to buy clothes because I am not good at sewing. In addition, there are many amazing clothes in the doll exhibitions.

    4. I really want to make them by myself, but since I'm lacking of this skill, I always end up with buying them instead TvT;;!!

    5. I really would like to make my own but must admit I am too quick to buy instead of trying :doh

    6. Buy! I am absolutely awful at sewing! Though, I do have a very picky style, that is kinda hard to find in bjd shops, so maybe I should get some practice... I do know of a place near where I live that has some sweet fabrics that wouldn't be too thick for bjd clothes... maybe once I get my doll, I'll give it another shot. ^_^

    7. I don't really have any sewing skills, although I am going to try more from now on.
I'd love to be able to make pretty clothes for dolls though~

    8. Haha I am in the same boat! Not for lack of trying, I just can't sew worth dirt. It's so much more painless to buy the clothes and make other things for the dolls.

    9. While it is much easier to just buy clothes, I don't prefer it. They're not always going to fit, and you could be out of a lot of money.

BJDs are what inspired me to get back into the sewing in the first place, and I'm sure I'll learn a lot more than I would have otherwise. I love learning and improving, and need customclothing to begin with, anyways.

    10. I prefer to make clothes for my dolls, but sometimes I see something I should buy, for example something great from leather, something I can't do)

    11. I prefer to buy the clothing then make it. I fail horrible to sew and there is loooots of amazing clothing out there that I like. Well exept the price tag of coruse! But I want to learn to sew so one day I can make my dream doll clothing to my dolls. Its so hard to find a dress that looks lika I want and are in my price class.

    12. Buy what I can't do, make what I can. I find calming to work on things for dolls but there's things that I don't know or would have to invest money to make, so in this case buying is easier.

    13. It would be incredible to have the ability to make my own doll clothes. I love contributing to other artists, but sometimes there is just something specific I want for a particular doll and can not find what I am looking for! The one time I attempted to buy a sewing machine, I broke it as soon as I turned it on >,<

    14. I wish I could sew since Bjd clothing costs half an arm and a leg. I'll learn someday but till then I'm limited to using the internet. XP

    15. ToniaHowardxoxo, that sounds like a bad machine to me.

    16. Only buy! I want have the quality stuff for my dolls. I sew terribly, also I don't like to sew, so I buy on the site or I order from the masters

    17. Buy them. Because professionally made stuff looks so amazing, I know there's just noooooooooooo way I'd ever get close to that.
Of course there might be very simply things I could learn how to make and then I'd sew them myself, but things like leather jackets, real jeans, handbags, shoes, would be simply impossible.

    18. I would make them and feel very accomplished after I'm done. However, I end up getting mad at something through the process and just wish I could buy it. :sweat

    19. I love the clothes you can purcase, but I'm not willing to pay so much money for it.
So I asked a lot of friends to bring me old clothes and since then I'm sewing the stuff for my dolls. It was tricky at the beginning, because I needed to alter the patterns and make my own. But there are a lot of things on deviantart and really helpful tutorials.
My luck is that I myself am a Cosplayer. So it works for me with sewing and my sewing machine.
From time to time I find an outfit which I think looks nice and when the price is acurate I think about buying it.
But I always have the panic that it won't fit in the end.

    20. I buy them. It's easier! It would be nice to sew though. You could create the exact outfits you had in your head!
